Lord of the Rings!!!!
YAYAYAYAYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! !!!! 11 Oscars, boo-yah!!!!!!! |
Tell me, is this the only time that the award has been taller than the cast ?
|
lmao!!!!!
I think so! Man, I was so determined to be the first one to post it. A message to the geek army: stand down comrades, no need to stage the revolution. |
Wow!! 11  round of applause all round.
|
Ya, RotK swept it up tonight, and they deserved every bit of it
|
Now, I didn't watch the Oscars, because I didn't see many movies this year. But did LoTR really win Most Homoerotic Undertones like my friends say it did?
|
LotR won too many Oscars really, it was as though the Academy just wanted to throw all their awards towards them.
Best Original Song should have gone to Rendevouz in my opinion. |

BTW did some other film once win 11 Oscars? |
I agree with Dundee, I know LotR was a great trilogy, but 11 oscars? Just a bit much if you ask me

yes they did win a heck of a lot, yes there were many MANY other great movies, actors/actresses, and such who also deserved to win...
but I'm still veeeerrry happy :D |
I think Johnny Depp should have gotten it for Pirates, but thats prolly cause I didn't see any of the other movies in the Awards except for Something's Gotta Give, Finding Nemo, RotK, and...ya that's it, lol
But seriously, RotK earned most of its awards, IMO. Like costumes, they fully blew away all the others. Adapted screen play I would say too, but Master and Commander was close. I liked the original song better than the others as well, and they definatley earned it for...whats it called...well, the use of special effects, was like the first one they got *shrug* maybe I'm just to blinded by the brilliance of RotK...I mean it did take 7 years to make after all- compared to Lost in Translation (i think?) which took 27 days! |
I woulda liked to see Johnny win too, if only to hear his acceptance speech.
And I like that they got so many, totally earned it...but yes it does seem like they were awarding 3 movies |
hmmm..did I just miss the oscar? * scratch head *
|
I think the number of awards was an 'apology' by the acadamy for LotR not being recognized in the 2 previous years. Granted LotR was nominated, but I think the acadamy was holding out for the third movie to award rather than have LotR dominate the awards for 3 years.
I heard also that this was the first time a 'Fantasy' movie was awarded an Oscar. |
Well, I think last years Oscars were kind of a joke. LotR got only 2 IIRC, one of them for "sound editing"
|
YEAH! GO LOTR!
But that is just a "littl" too much. :D |
Considering the last two times they were basically shafted, and slapped in the face by movies like Chicago and ended up with almost nothing. I think they deserved it for the third movie.

I enjoyed Billy Crystals comment 'Its now official, thers noone left in New Zealand to thank'

I think that considering their last two trips, as pritchke mentioned, the academy actually did give awards this time around to the whole work, even though RotK was the only movie out this year. Okay by me though. I guess it's laudible that for once the third movie of a trilogy didn't suck -- even moreso, it outdid the others by a good bit.
No one (at the awards or in reviews of the awards) made mention of the fact the Academy seemed to be awarding the trilogy rather than the movie. I guess that's okay -- I'm sure someone will gripe about it sooner or later. I was glad to see Sean Penn win for a change after several good performances over the years. Johnny Depp's hair should always get a "best supporting actor" nod as far as I'm concerned. [ 03-01-2004, 07:23 PM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |
Yeah, saw the replay. eyup. it was a clean sweep.
|
Since we're on the topic of Oscars, did anyone catch the Aussie who won...Best Animimated Short Film, I think. The claymation one? Did you catch who he thanked at the end? heheh...
|
He thanked SBS (Tv station)at the end or did I miss something
|
You guys see how Williams kept flinching kinda b/c of Janet? I thought that was hilarious
|
Jackson looked like a hobo off the street. Doesn't he even care two cents what he looks like? I bet he smelled bad too.
|
They had interviewed a couple of the Academy members 2 years ago (when Fellowship came out), and they stated that they considered the trilogy to be one work, since it was made all at once. I remember one of them stating that just because New Line chose to release it in 3 parts in 3 years as a marketing decision, they should not be rewarded for that. They stated that they may nominate the film for categories, but that they would "reserve their judgement" until the third movie. I agree completely, as I felt there was no real need to spread things out over 3 years. However, I am fuzzy about the interview (I heard it in passing 2 years ago), but that explains them snubbing the movies for the past 2 years then giving it a record tying 11 Oscars this time around. I would probably feel the same way if I were in a voting position (why give a 3 films that were done at the same time 3 best picture awards?).

Ebert and Roper were on Leno tonight and noted that PJ thanked everybody on the planet except his stylist and his personal trainer.
|
one of my friends, trying to argue AGAINST LotR getting so many, pointed out that if it were really all that great then why didn't any of the actors get nominated? seriously, do you want to be the person to pick out THE one and only main character in that story? the one person who deserves recognition above the others? I didn't think so.
but I still think Andy shoulda gotten a nod, that was just phenomenal. needless to say my friend soon received a good face-wash in our fresh snow for such inoslence ;) |

Anyone get a load at Joan River's face? Ghastly! Seems only the mouth moves on the entire face now, and it cannot smile either, just kinda grimaces. I noticed a few celebrities avoiding her in the pre-show LOL
|
Thank you again, I was also flamed at same board in same thread for saying something about Ms. Rivers. She has gone waaaay past the line. She is in Jacko country if you ask me.
