I just cleared out the lower level dungeon where the Shadow Dragon is (except for the rooms with the doors that will not open with knock, next the the Sun God'd head). Anyway, I went into the room with the Dragon and it does not awake unless I talk to it - I have the Moonstone. I have tried attacking it a few times, but my guys are too low in level to kill it.
My question: If I leave, will I be able to come back and get at him later? Also, now that I have the sun disk assembled, what the heck do I do with it? |

Yes, you can come back to fight him later. He is the hardest dragon in the game that I've fought, despite the fact that the Black Dragon is officially stronger according to the character's most powerful vanquished history. I haven't tried backstabbing a certain "freindly" one yet though. You'll need really good protections and saving throws to beat Thraxissyllia. If you have one or more mages all you need do is cast Pierce Magic and Greater Malison and have your fighters deal a few hits before pointing your finger at him...if you survive long enough to get off 3 spells. Considering how hard he is I don't understand why the treasure isn't better. The stuff you get form Firkraag is slightly better and by the time I could beat Thraxissyllia I wasn't even using that!

Actually, the Shadow Dragon is considered by most to be the easiest Dragon to defeat. A party with an average level of 11-12 can take it on already.
|
Ya...I defeated him without spells with levels 10-12...
PS. Don't ask me how I did this...I don't remember, I just know I did it! (I wish I could remember the battle though...) |

I defeated him without weapons (I had no weapons that could touch him) with lvl 1-6 mage and druid spells (magic missile, insect plague, acid arrow, fire arrow, chromatic orb, call lightning and some summons and my fighters as distraction. |
Yeah. The Shadow one is EASY. I usually grab Edwin for the questso I can bombard him with Cloudkills and fireballs.
|
bee there done that... the shadow dragon is not that easy unless youre using the easy level in the difficulty bar. the shadow dragon is protected by 50% magic resistance meaning that level 1 to 3 magic are like tickling stick to him. use pierce magic and remove magic against him (i used nalia, , edwin, and aerie to lower his magic pierce). busy him with a fighter or a paladdin while you chant your spells (try finger of death or disentegrate).Aerie distegrated him the last time i killed him.

Magic Resistance? What Magic Resistance? That is what Lower Resistance is for, and level 10+ Mages can have it.
|
Just turn into a Slayer with healers behind ur back and u'll come out just fine, trust me!!! I killed all 3 evil dragons using this strategy.

Easy way to kill any dragon at average party level 11+
Use alternating Druid/Mage Spells: Magic Resistance- Lower Resistance (or pierce magic, but lower resistance is better)-Doom (try a few for added effect, Mage Spell greater mallison also works well)- Feeblemind. Magic Resistance sets the dragons magic resistance to 2%/caster level.. note it says SET not RAISE, in other words: if the MR of the creature is higher than what is conferred, it lowers it to the set amount. Lower Resistance does exactly that- lowers it`s resistance by 10%+1&/caster level. Pierce Magic lowers it by 1%/caster level; thus Lower Resistance although it is a lower level spell is better, as it lowers the resistance by an extra 10%. Doom/Greater Mallison- lowers saves... very important for the feeblemind. Feeblemind- don`t cast until you`ve lowered the saves by a bit, as it has a save vs spell... once the save is failed, the Dragon has the intelligance of a rock. A *sleeping* rock ;) It forgets how to attack, and how to use it`s special dragon abilities, so feel free to whack/poke/stab/shoot it to death :D |
tsss..... why try the hard way when it's actually really easy, try feeblemind. :D

magic restistance, lower resistance, harm and anything to damage him
|
I've tried turning Firkrag into a squirrel using polymorph other. That was fun. But nowhere near so much as discovering he could still breathe fire afterwards.
He also seemed pretty much invulnerable, but I was only using low level weapons (i.e. +1 or +2). This was before I patched the game, so I don't know if this still happens. Tim. |

Killing "evil" dragons by becoming the slayer.. Who's more evil, the dragon or the one who becomes the Slayer? I don't like people whose advice on a difficult battle is to become the Slayer. It's no fun to beat it the easy, evil way.. unless you're playing a NE or CE char. Even then, the victory is cheap and hollow... In my OH-so-humble opinion, of course! |
how does one get to become the slayer?
|
Play the game.. Believe me, you won't overlook it when it comes.
|
Oh do mean the slayer is more powerful when your alignment is evil?
|
I don't think so... but I do know that the Slayer is "extremely" powerful when hasted!!!
|
I personally have never used the slayer. I powergame a little, but that's a little far for me.
|
The Slayer form is overrated, and I say that with a straight face.

Hmm.... is that so?

Hmmm...is that so??

I'm siding with Dundee on this one.. Unless you were joking. A LG char would NOT turn into the Slayer. Most good-aligned chars, if they are played as they should be played, would rather die than become the Slayer.
