Just wanted to start a new topic on this. I gotta send the check this Wed (day after tomorrow) and we still need $140.00 to go. :( It's cutting it close, so if you have been waiting to donate, this is the time ;)
I will keep ya updated on the progress throughout the day tomorrow whenever a donation comes in. If you don't see an update, take that as no donation has been recieved yet. I'm sure we'll make it, we always do, with choc's luck and all :D :D BTW, We were down for a few hours Monday morning, I called customer service, and the entire south side of town was having issues, and we were back in a few hours. (Just incase you thought it was the server bug) Thanks guys! You know I hate asking, and BTW, I am indeed looking into a few options that could possibaly create some income and cover bills, but it takes time to find the right services, and set them up. So hang in there, I'll figure out something dang-it. ;) |
Just let us know what options you find, Z! If it can help cover the monthly costs it's worth looking into.
Thanks for the update on what's still needed. I think it helps people to know how much is needed regularly and how much is already there to cover it. |
I sent mine to johnny, and he would send it to Grojlach, but I don't know when and how that's gonna happen. If I must make a guess, then I think there's approximately 70 dollars from the Dutchies here coming your way.
|
You should be getting my share anyday in the mail. :D 20 bucks, just so we can say with the dutchies 70, and my 20, we are down to 50.00 dollars! Almost there!
|
I Paypaled $20 bones earlier tonight so the unofficial running total required to meet goal is $30.00. Hopefully everything falls into place in time!

And when we get past this month, I think it's time we opened a debate on the best way to assist Z in funding IW from a long-term point of view, so we're not in strife each month. From what I know of Z I know he hates this time of the month, and having to do this. So I'm prepared to help out and try and facilitate a discussion (probably sometime in the next few of weeks) to see if we can brainstorm any ideas on how to build some kind of ongoing cash flow and reduce the monthly uncertainty we go through.
There will be a number of conditions to participating in this discussion while will be enforced quite strictly. Just a few that come to mind - we don't want anything that will force people off this site. We don't want anything that will bitterly divide people. We don't want anything that will specifically exclude the haves from the have nots in terms of things like accessing core services on this site. That's NOT what we are about here. And this discussion will NOT be used as a soapbox for people to bludgeon others with their point of view. We'll be sharing our opinions, not enforcing them. As always, Ziroc will remain the owner of this site and the ultimate decision on how to go about things will rest solely with him, but maybe we can help him out. Many minds are better than one, after all - isn't that what the mind flayers say? :D What do you guys think? Good idea? bad idea? Regardless of what you think, I'd appreciate if nobody started up a discussion thread about this until I've had the chance to think it through and talk it over with Z and the other guys. Keep in mind that we all have day jobs as well - but I think this is something we should all have our 2c in. Cheers. |
I think thats a really good idea Memnoch.
|
Agreed. You have my permission to forward my 15 euro's Groj.
|
Groj, could you give me your account info? (PM/email/SMS/phonecall, whatever) It would be silly for me to send the money to Johnny if you're gonna Paypal it. Of course if it turns out to be too much hassle, you should say so, but if you're willing to Paypal our donations regularly, that'd be great.
I've been working extra last week (and sadly spent half my earnings on new shoes already ) but Ithink I could miss 15 euros this month. Edit: great post, Genieboy! For my part, I think that it might just work if we all could get at the very least an *indication* of how much money is needed monthly. There are many people willing to donate monthly, without any stoopid benefits like cool avatars and the like ;) but I think most of them would only want to commit to monthly donations if they knew what the total sum needed was. I think if we could get an idea about that, there'd be quite a lot of people who'd want to donate monthly (or continue to donate regularly, if they were already doing so). But maybe I'm running ahead of the debate... :D [ 02-10-2004, 06:25 AM: Message edited by: Melusine ] |
Check going in the mail today, Dan.
I agree, Mems, it would be nice to have some good sources for funding so Dan doesn't have to worry every month! |
Check your Private Messages, Mel.
|
I am certainly agreed to the brainstorm. I love brainstorms, there so fun! :D Anyway, I have some ideas, and look forward to sharing them.
:D P.S. You Duchies are awesome! |
OK - I have stirred from my slumber .
Now that we have me motivated, the next problem is that I need some help with Paypal. Story thus far is : 1) Applied for an account and have a password. The gig seems to be that I put money in the account from my bank account and transfer it to Z. 2) Didn't take the credit card premier option because that looked like it attracted fees 3) After registration (didn't add acrd in step 2)Add funds takes me to a spot that asks me if I want to add a US account to transfer the money from - Doh - my registration says Australian - like how useful is that option to me - where is plan B? 4) In the profile section there is a spot where I can add an Australian Account, but all the desciption there says that the account I am adding is for the withdrawal of funds only. 5) Went back and added the credit card to see if I could use that - still only get the "add an American Bank account" option when I try to add funds. Activate account - there is now an option available to upgrade to an expanded account. Not real keen on bothering with higher potential for funds transfer, but seems like I am being pushed down this path. Will it let me use my card then, and if so, why will it only let me use my card if I am willing to go with a higher transfer limit that I have no interest at all in? Saga ends - awaiting assistance ;) Money coming soon Z (once I am au fait with the system). |
Davros,I know Mems has some experience with using paypal and cc, so maybe he can answer the questions on what to do when it asks for a US bank option.
|
I understand Ziroc has some kind of store on the main site. Perhaps we should all start buying our games through him.
|
Davros, just register a major credit card, it's much easier. Plus, you don't have to remember to balance your bank book with every transaction. Plus (wink, wink ;) ) if somebody rips you off via paypal, you have a "delay window" on the transfer of payment to them, and most all credit cards will let you challenge any fraudulent transaction.
Oh, and a credit card always gives you the most favorable exchange rate on currency. Much less hassle all around. [ 02-10-2004, 10:14 AM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |

edit: done and done.
Will take care of it this week then. I'm expecting some extra cash from work anyway, so i'll be adding my share as well. I'll drop you a PM when it's on it's way. ;) |
Thanks all! BTW, we have $50.00 total added to paypal now, so we're down to $90.00 needed.
BTW, The plans I have in the works may take care of the bills, but I still would like you to go ahead with that post, and see what we can come up with, incase my plan doesn't pan out. Thanks all! We're closer!! |
So $90 to go then? Have you received ours yet then?

shameless bumping to keep it up near the top! :D
|
Nothing yet, I gotta right the check tonight and send it out tomorrow, and it takes 2-3 days for paypal to transfer money to our bank, so we gotta hurry.
We still need $90, no further donations are yet in paypal. I will keep checking througout the day guys! |

Z, did you get mine that I sent you yet? I mailed it Thursday and I am in Washington ST. Hope it makes it.
|
Well now I am in the expanded use program (although I am not sure I wanted to be) and I have been charged a buck and 95 cents. That still hasn't opened up any options that allow me to add any funds to my pay pal account??? I have a credit card account linked and in the profile, but if I click on the add funds icon it still only gives ne the option to name a US bank account.
Sigh :( |
Davros,
If you have a credit card linked to your paypal account, just click on the donate button on the top of the IW page then click on the paypal logo. You will then have the option to enter your paypal login information and be able to choose an amount for your donation that is then charged on your credit card. No need to put money in the paypal account, it goes directly onto your card with paypal as the go-between. As for the $1.95 charge, I dont think you need that just to donate. Ask for a refund. [ 02-10-2004, 05:03 PM: Message edited by: Chewbacca ] |
You don't have to "add funds" Davros. If it's linked primarily to your credit card, you just go spend money on a site, like IWF, by hitting "pay with paypal."
Make sure it's linked to your credit card and then try using the paypal link Z provides. You only need to add money in if you're using bank funds. {edited to correct your/you're fallacy -- damned contractions} [ 02-10-2004, 11:22 PM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |
Oh, and I don't remember ever having to pay anything to belong to paypal. Paypal gets its pound of flesh by charging per transaction.
|
Thanks TL and Chewie - great to see you guys on the same side for a change . I was following the thread that Hayashi posted back on page 2 that said you had to add funds to your account.
Darn - I came back this morning, loked up what advice I had in this thread, then assumed the only way forward was to as the website said "complete your registration for the upgraded limit program" even though I didn't want to. That is what I have been charged the 1.95 fee for :( . Now I find I already had enough and just had to hit the donations button - grrr. Thanks guys - off to attempt a donation. Cheers |
Aha - life is so much simpler when you know what the rules are :D - done and dusted .
|
All we need now is $40.00!! woo hoo!! :D Thanks Davros dude! The Davroster! Davromania, Davrous Ice T! :D :D

Well guys, we didn't make it, and we were SO close.. All we need is $40.00. If we don't get it by tomorrow morning, we'll be down in a few days. :(
|
We did make it. I just sent you $40 through Paypal, Ziroc.
|
Ah, the community comes together during a time of crisis. It's so touching. Cheers to Aledrain.
Whether or not I agree with Chewie, Davros, and others regarding our ongoing efforts to fix the world via the Current Events Forum, it's nice to know we're all willing to pay the price to keep fighting with each other. Now, *ding, ding* back at it! Have at you all!! [edit] To Zman, and the trusted Vizier, Choc, I personally can think of no issue deserving more concern, having more primacy, than coming up with a way for those of us who are willing to contribute to "subscribe" in some form or fashion. I know Memsie asked we not get into it here, but I'm going to at least point out that a good number of us would "subscribe" for a nominal fee of a few bucks/quid/yen/drachma/marks per month without asking for special privileges or recognition. As I've pointed out before, with IWF's 13,000+ members, several hundred active, it would only take 40 or 50 subscribing at $5 per month to make the task of financially supporting IWF a near non-issue. ;) I know your health has been lagging of late, but when you're feeling up to it, you should give this issue serious consideration. And choc should too. [ 02-10-2004, 11:30 PM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |
YAY!!!! *hugs to Arledrian* We did it!
