Here is my standard joke disclaimer. If this is offensive, lemme know and I'll take it down. :D

Bush Seeks Help

One night, George W. Bush is tossing restlessly in his White House bed. He awakens to see George Washington standing by him. Bush asks him, "George, what's the best thing I can do to help the country?" "Set an honest and honorable example, just as I did," Washington advises, then
fades away.

The next night, Bush is astir again, and sees the ghost of Thomas Jefferson moving through the darkened bedroom. Bush calls out, "Tom, please! What is the best thing I could do to help the country?" "Respect the Constitution, as I did," Jefferson advises, and dims from sight.

The third night sleep is still not in the cards for Bush. He awakens to see the ghost of F. D. R. hovering over his bed. Bush whispers, "Franklin, What is the best thing I could do to help the country?" "Help the less fortunate, just as I did," FDR replies and fades into the mists.

Bush isn't sleeping well the fourth night when he sees another figure moving in the shadows. It is the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. "Abe, what is the best thing I can do right now, to help the country?" Bush pleads.

Abe replies, "Go see a play."

The Right here will not be amused.

The Left will not admit it is funny.

The rest of us will just kind of snicker (just a little). ;)

I've been sending PM's to those who don't get and it looks like the list of people who don't will grow. Mostly because they are not Americans and I don't expect them to know American history. What follows is the text of the PMs:

"Hi,
To clarify the joke, Lincoln was shot in the back of the head and later died from the wound. He was watching a play with his wife in a theater when John Booth shot him. Therefore his advice means go to a play and get shot in the head, it will help America the most."

I hope this clears it up for all.

Thanks Skywalker for your lesson in American history - I get it now .

Thanks to some breakdown somewhere between the place where I sit and the IronWorks forum host computer, my earlier post (with my thanks to Skywalker) didn't get through :(

Another (really old) political joke;
Stalin, Khrushchev and Brezhnev were all travelling together in a railway carriage, when unexpectedly the train stopped. Stalin put his head out of the window and shouted, "Shoot the driver!" But the train didn't start moving. Khrushchev then shouted, "Rehabilitate the driver!" But it still didn't move. Brezhnev then said, "Comrades, Comrades, let's draw the curtains, turn on the gramophone and let's pretend we're moving!"

I stand warned. I'll try to look for a good Democratic joke just to level the field. ;)

Heh.

The American answer would have been to give the engineer a promotion so as not to anger his powerful uncle and then put someone else in the driver's seat.

*Notice how my response was totally non-partisan? :D

Absolutely! :D I got it in email this morning and it cracked me up. I like helping people laugh when I can and I appreciate the return favor. I can't remember who posted the Sargent Skippy post, but I sent that to everyone I know, just like I spread around this joke. I just can have a warped sense of humor so I have to be careful not to offend people. :D
