The Fallen One 02-01-2004 06:04 PM

what was the first game you played? and when was it?

my first game was Super mario world (it came bundled with my SNES) and that was back in 1990 (or 1991 dont remeber exactly)

Zero Alpha 02-01-2004 06:16 PM

Tetris

it was and is a classic, and was the first thing i played that really got me hoocked on computer games. :D

granted, it was the first game i played :D

johnny 02-01-2004 06:18 PM

Depends what you mean. My first console was the NES, i got it with six games: Mario 1,2, and 3, Konami soccer, a track and field game, and an icehockey game.

I don't exactly recall what my first PC game was, either a game about the American civil war, or Settlers 2. Perhaps both, dunno anymore. Sorry. :D

Vaskez 02-01-2004 06:27 PM

The first game I ever played was Pong on a dedicated pong console that you plugged into your TV. But didn't really like it that much.

We got our first PC when I was 6 and I played space invaders on it a lot. That was the first game I played a lot but it wasn't really that inspiring.

The first game that I really liked and really got me thinking that actually gaming can be addictive was North and South on that first PC (it was an 8Mhz 8086 with a 20MB HD and 640K RAM hehe).

Sythe 02-01-2004 07:53 PM

The first game I played was a kiddie game. A game for toddlers. Called Fattie Bear or something like that.

But after I played that game I played my first real game. Which was an FPS called Doom. I played it when I was five years old. LoL I was exposed to so much violence when I was young. I even played it even though it gave me nightmares almost every night. Till I was six.

WillowIX 02-01-2004 07:54 PM

Hmm the first game I started to play regurlarly was Colonization. Then it all went downhill from there. ;)

Jorath Calar 02-01-2004 08:07 PM

I got my first computer, a glorious Commodore 64 when I was 13... in 1988, my uncle gave it to me and it came with few games... I liked Bruce Lee, the old platformgame best at first and played it a lot. about 2 week later I bought my first game, it was called Operation Horuz or Hormuz not sure which, but it was a sidescrolling fighterjet game, you flew a Harrier jet and basicly had to destroy... everything...

Sagramore 02-01-2004 09:11 PM

First game ever was Super Mario World for the SNES...i remember i wsa 5 and my dad would only let me play it for 10 minutes at a time...those were the days!

Gangrell 02-01-2004 09:19 PM

The first game I played was Mario on the regular Nintendo game system when I was about two and a half. Good times, good times :D

Timber Loftis 02-01-2004 09:31 PM

Space invaders and pac man on Atari. Oh, and circus atari and Pitfall.

When NES came along, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid, MT Punchout, etc.

Bungleau 02-01-2004 10:10 PM

Space invaders, Commodore PET. The ultimate in low-conflict gaming -- reboot the machine every time you want to play a different game. No memory leaks there, believe me.

No memory, either. :D

Nerull 02-01-2004 11:57 PM

First game I played was Pong, on one of those old "plug into TV" Pong games.

However, first system that I owned was an Atari 2600, and it came with Space Invaders. It was my first game that I was addicted to.

Ghoul 02-02-2004 03:09 AM

IIRC, my first game was pong, too.
As for the PC I started with North and South, Tetris and Monkey Island.

Bozos of Bones 02-02-2004 05:02 AM

The first PC game I ever played that got me hooked was Scorched Earth, the mother of all games :D . After that came Duke Nukem 3D, Warcraft ...

The Hierophant 02-02-2004 05:30 AM

I think the first computer game I ever played was 'Mr Robot's Factory' on our Atari 130XE when I was about 4.
Though the computer game that turned me into a true computer-nerd was Ultima 4, which I got when I was about 6 or 7. I played it, non-stop, and without ever really getting anywhere until I was 8, when we bought a PC. The next obsession became Ultima 6...

Raistlin Majere 02-02-2004 06:00 AM

My first game was Civilization. I still play it every now and again...great game

InsaneBane 02-02-2004 06:11 AM

The first game(s)?

Space Invaders - In an arcade cafe

Single player squash on a TV (you know - one ball, a wall and a 'brick' to hit the ball with)

JetPac on Sinclair Spectrum 48

Asteroid on PC (good old PC-G model with a 8088 running 4.77 MHz)

Insane

Intrepid 02-02-2004 08:17 AM

I think it was a Atari 600, we had this game that you were this man and you had to find like an apple for the guy with the beard and kill things with your lazer thing, it was a plaform game. And the other was a 3d helicopter game called Tommahawk, it was really good but by 3d i mean the square mountains were 4 lines making a triangle and tanks were a series of lines in a messy pattern, still i thought it was really fun

Arvon 02-02-2004 10:27 AM

Mine were Zork and wizardry.

philip 02-02-2004 10:34 AM

First 'game' was some maths program when I was like 6 (multiplying and stuff with all kinds of pictures). First real games were Fifa 94, Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, so that was when I was around 6 years old. The first game that really got me was Diablo 2, I never finished it but it started the whole crpg for me

dplax 02-02-2004 10:55 AM

The first game I played was called the last ninja and it was on a c64. Ah, those were the days...

RevRuby 02-02-2004 11:40 AM

First games I played (usually at friends' places - we didn't get a computer or console until later) were Tetris, Super Mario, Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog.
First games I played on an old computer we got were two of the Commander Keen games. :D

Caminante 02-02-2004 12:08 PM

Aelia Jusa 02-02-2004 04:20 PM

My very first game was on my cousin's atari - Frogger. The first games we had on our very first computer were space invaders, alley cat, pacgirl, chomp.

Arledrian 02-02-2004 04:23 PM

The first video games I ever played were Jetset Willy, Dizzy, Manic Miner and Chucky Egg, on the ZX Spectrum console, in either '88 or '89.

Gab 02-02-2004 07:28 PM

My first Nintendo game was Super Mario in 1994.
The Computer game I played was a child's learning game called Treasure Math Storm. I got into violent games much later on.

LordKathen 02-03-2004 02:27 AM

That would be "Defender" on Atari. My parents bought me an Atari 2600 when I was in like 3rd or 4th grade. Defender was the first game they bought, and I was addicted to video games ever since! :D :D :D :D :D

Jorath Calar 02-03-2004 02:44 AM

Ah Mel, Golden Axe was great...

Also my brothers first game was definetly Commander Keen, 4 I think, I had it on my first PC when he was about 3, and he was pretty good at it...

Marikai 02-03-2004 06:08 AM

Now THIS is an interesting topic! Congrats

My first game... woulda been Monopoly on board. Or was it Scrabble? Scrabble is a classic board game.

I had a Commodore 64 also. Had some games but hell if i can remember them. Youd go up elevators and then grab some funky things and exit levels. Good 'ol cassette games they were.

We had an Atari also! But i didn't find it until i was 8. What a waste cause by then why had a Pentium 386 computer. (hi tech! )

I reckon my first greatest game woulda been Commander Keen. DUDE ON A POGO!! haha

Today, i like Wizards and Warriors and Diablo. Making an online FREE game with a crew of people. Its not done yet, but it'll be advertised here. I hiope many people would enjoy to test it.

Cool topic,
The first game I played was Kingdom on the really old BBC computers. A great game, you had your town and had to decide what the people would do, plug the dam, work in the fields or stay in the town to make more people!! Great.
Played a lot of Elite.
First RPG was Dungeon Master on the Atari.

quietman1920 02-03-2004 03:07 PM

Does anyone remember an addictive little RPG called 'Rogue'? There was also a cool star trek simulation game called 'BEGIN' or 'BEGIN2'.

Say, I'm not the only one who remembers these, am I? They could be stored off a 5 1/4 floppy & played through a COMPAQ Portable...

I sure do - you were represented by "@" and just walked into rooms full of letters (monsters)... great fun.

Sir Krustin 02-03-2004 05:48 PM

First computer game was probably Trek on an old PDP-9 system. First PC game was Ultima 6.

Oh yeah, do I ever! I still have copies somewhere...Rogue is a classic, BEGIN and it's successor BEGIN2 I often played into the early morning on weekends.
