the original thread is here

the previous thread is here:

Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Cloudbringer 01-19-2004 09:47 AM

 PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

Good mornin, I have never been the first poster before. Whats my prise? Free coffee?

Cloudbringer 01-19-2004 09:51 AM

ROTFL! Sure, all the free virtual coffee you can drink! :D

Good morning, LordK! How's your day going? How's that lovely family of yours?

I've got a little cold, but nothing too bad at the moment. My honey is at work and we've got more plans in place for the impending nuptials.

LordKathen 01-19-2004 10:00 AM

Hey, virtual coffe is the best! Especially yours Cloudy! :D
The family is doing great. Little Seth is in bed with mamma right now crying himself to sleep  . He is generally a real good baby, but he is going through a stubborn phase.

You must be real excited! It is a lot of fun. You will do great, just dont get to nervous. ;)

RoSs_bg2_rox 01-19-2004 12:00 PM

Ah, finally a new cafe after the New Year one. So whats everyone up to on this horrible rainy day then?

Gangrell 01-19-2004 01:17 PM

Well, I'm freezing in my room after just waking up, I'm amazed though. After raining to no end for the past few weeks, it's actually snowing during winter, imagine that

johnny 01-19-2004 01:24 PM

I'm turning my world upside down if it keeps raining like this. I just woke up.... at 7 PM. i went to bed at 8:30 AM. I don't think i can sleep this night, since i just got out of bed. Am i becoming a vampire ? :D This isn't normal anymore, i need sleepingpills or something so that i can go to sleep on conventional times.

Cloudbringer 01-19-2004 02:01 PM

I dunno, Johhny, but if you're not becoming a vampire, it might be a zombie....you've got the symbol of Bane as an avatar! LOL Seriously, though, have you tried forcing yourself to stay up til a 'normal' bedtime or trying to make the time you go to sleep the same or close to it every night? Sometimes that helps me when I'm having trouble.

LordK, Yup! We're getting excited about the wedding...stressed and excited, a very odd combo but normal, I hear! :D The invitations came today, along with some other things we ordered.

Gangrell, are you happy to have SNOW?! I think I'd rather have some rain than snow! Unless it's freezing rain...yuk!

Hi Ross!

Rain? Bah! Makes your clothes wet and smell funky from mildew, or just have it snow and make it look like bad dandruff

I like cold weather, and the snow but today is a bit harsh for me. I have nothing but a shirt and shorts on and it'll be that way until my laundry gets done. People keep giving weird looks and ask the obvious question "Aren't you cold?"

"Nah, just a bit hot." :D

Cloudbringer 01-19-2004 02:59 PM

ack, I posted a reply to you Gangrell, but it's not showing!

Anyway, are we to guess you're doing your laundry now? :D Hope you get something dry and toasty to wear soon, isn't it COLD up your way?!

T-D-C 01-19-2004 05:09 PM

Morning Everyone!

My first time in the Cafe I must say. Sitting here at work bored out of my brain and stressing about my wedding coming up.

Too many things to finalize and people not sending back RSVP's ARGH!

But Fiji here we come!

Slightly, about 30 degrees cold, but I'm part eskimo so I'll be alright :D

I got done with them a couple of hours ago, at least I'm able to feel my legs, and ward off the weird looks people give me

dplax 01-19-2004 07:19 PM

Its snowing here too, quite heavily but temperature is near freezing/melting point, so I guess there will be none of it left in the morning.

Hello T.D.C.

Another Aussie joins the cafe. You can't have enough of them i say. Stick around, don't be daunted, you will soon get to know everyone :D

wellard 01-19-2004 09:36 PM

Hey TDC

I was going to PM you about sugesting you start a wedding thread. (but you have not chosen the PM option...which is OK) So i'll do it here. I'm sure there are a lot of people who can help you out with ideas. Cloudy herself is planning on getting married soon.

antryg 01-19-2004 10:49 PM

Cloudykins is getting married! I hadn't heard anything about it.

I've got plenty of suggestions. You should have it outside in the snow. The bridesmaids can wear bikini's and snowshoes. Your fiance should skydive into the wedding. After the service, people could throw snowballs instead of rice. Then everyone could eat smores at the reception, then off to the honeymoon in a room under a bowling alley. :D

Cloudbringer 01-19-2004 11:24 PM

TDC, I feel your stress! Well, not as intensely, YET, but I do know what you mean!
Hey, Wellard had a good idea, I bumped the honeymoon thread with some questions, but maybe a thread on ideas and support for the weddings wouldn't be such a bad idea!

If you want one, go ahead and start it, I'll happily join in! We could get ideas and support all in one place!

antryg....LOL....I think if we do that, I'll have you officiate in your loincloth and winnie the pooh slippers...oh wait, those are MY slippers....ok, you can wear your bugs bunny ones... ;)

Lady Blue03 01-19-2004 11:32 PM

Mmm, first day of school tomorrow :( . I need to go get my stuff ready. Not too bad a load this semester. Got Intro into Aeronautics, Economics Macro, Power reading (easy pie lol), and Biology. Only class i think i might have difficulty with is Econ *sigh*

Wow, raining everywhere. Rained here this morning bout 2hours

Kakero 01-19-2004 11:48 PM

Woohoo! 2 more days before Chinese New Year. I can't wait to get my ang pow. :D

RevRuby, you might check for other post-partum support organizations in the area. I know out here there were a number of groups for newborns and their parents. Of course, with you have a few kiddies, it gets harder to make those, but I believe one of the most important things you can have, if you're going through post-partum issues, is someone or ten you can call on just to vent and scream.

On a side note, it sounds like Erilyn is really excited about having a little sister. You might consider giving her some ground rules about where she can help out so that she can feel important but not get in the way.

Perhaps she can be the "wipe dispenser" at changing time, or the "burp rag stocker" who's responsible for making sure there's a burp rag in every room. Or if Carol is bottle-feeding, perhaps Erilyn can feed her every so often (under supervision, of course). Let her feel important and involved, and maybe she'll back off on the annoying stuff. Maybe. Just maybe.

Good luck, and if you get frustrated, head on over here. There are plenty of shoulders around

thnx Bungleau. i have been thinking of starting a mothers group in my area or trying to find one.

i do try to let erilyn help, unfortunately at 16mos it's hard to know if she understands what i want out of her. she can throw diapers away and she can feed carol, except that she gets distracted....easily. she is very much like our ferret. with throwing out a diaper she can get distracted by any toy or cat along the way and those gosh darned bottles are just so colorful and have all sorts of animals on them! i am trying so hard...she hovers over me like a worried g-ma when i give carol a bath, as if to say "don't get her face wet!, clean between all the piggies....are you sure you don't want help?" she is very cute and wants to be mommy so bad. but i also worry cause nathan taught her to head butt, she has head butted carol, and after being headbutted myself i feel so bad for carol...it really hurts!

well i'm up and awake at 430 my time because carol is just not sleeping! i will not get to nap tomorrow because she likes to be up when erilyn is napping. and even tho i have been bouncing this child for a half hour she does not look one bit sleepy, she has been up since 230! erilyn never pulled htis unless she was hungry and justice at least pretended to be sleepy.......

at five i'm gonna hand her off to nathan, i know he works but i need some sleep tonight....some...even if just 1 consecutive hour.

If so happy new year to Erencia! :D

Bungleau 01-20-2004 09:53 AM

Sounds like it's time to enlist a friend in the area to have the kids over for a couple of hours so you can get some sleep!

That just made me think of one of the things we used to do. Every so often, when the getting up at night got really bad, we'd take turns. One of us would have the night off and sleep in a different part of the house while the other took care of all the baby needs. The next night, we'd switch roles. Repeat as needed.

Each of us got a decent night's sleep, and that really helped to recharge our batteries.

Good luck to you... and remember, it will eventually be over. It only seems like forever.

Cloudbringer 01-20-2004 02:31 PM

Good luck gettting some sleep, Revruby! Sounds like a hard thing to do with the kids now.

Callum Kerr 01-21-2004 04:29 AM

Yeah! I heard about that on UFR Cloudy!

Congratulations!

One of the main reasons I came back!

To wish you good wishes... and stuff

And to you TDC...

She seems generous... why not ask?

Callum Kerr 01-21-2004 04:58 AM

OK... what's wrong with my sig?

Did I forget how to post images?

T-D-C 01-21-2004 04:49 PM

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. Everything is "sort of" calming down. The Fiance is stressing about the little things now. LOL

parteners are so cute sometimes when they stress.

Only 22 days to go!

On a side not its going to be another scorcher here in Sydney today. Should get to around 35 degrees. Thank god for Air Con!

Kaltia 01-21-2004 05:00 PM

Been writing a lot of fanfic lately Kat? Is this your rendition of Lord of the Onion Rings? http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon34.gif

SHOW! NOW! ;) ;)

"Gil-galad was an Elven King
Of him the harpers sadly sing
The last whose realm was fair and free
Between the mountains and the sea."

I know the first verse by heart - how pathetic is that?

Kaltia 01-21-2004 05:19 PM

Not really, Gil-Galad in black leather? I'd learn the entire song too, if I could just...find...my...bloody...copy of LotR....

Naked Maglor pictures? Nope. Nuh-uh. Not sharing. They're MINE, precious!
