I was visiting a friend last night, and since I'd had a couple of drinks decided not to drive on crashed at her place instead. I get up this morning, and low and behold my Pantera has been stolen! :(
What really chokes me is I'd just finished the resto on it last week, and hadn't had it appraised yet, so the insurance isn't likely to cover the cars true value. I guess a car alarm, and a club just don't work as well as I thought they would. :( |
Oh man! What a bummer. Sorry man. Did you file a report? Hopefully the cops will find it. BTW, what kind of Pantera was it? I love those cars.

It was a 71, full aluminum block 351, bored and stroked to 405, estimated at 700HP at the flywheel. Like I said, I just finished the resto on it, and this was my third time driving it since completion. I filed a report, but as an ex police officer and can pretty much guarantee that it's gone. It was probably loaded on a flatdeck or towed somehow, and is probably on it's way overseas by now. :(

That truly f*cking sucks Animal. Thieves.....I hate them. Theres always a chance you can get it back, I sure hope it happens. I think I've only seen 2 Panteras in my life. Very cool cars.
|
That royally bites. Wish I knew exactly how much that bites. I've never seen a Pantera. In real life or otherwise.
|
man, that suxks, I hope everything works out, and you do find it, and manage to get it bac in one peice

Although I proclaim to know everything about European & Japanese cars (normal and sports) I know jack about American Muscle cars (with 700BHP I assume its a muscle car lmao) so could you post a picture?
Any engine pictures would be cool too (plans or otherwise - I'm an engineer) Really sorry about the theft mate, I know it blows. |
Ohh that really sucks Animal :( if i ever got hands of one car thief i would kill him slovly i have got one car stolen from my self once so i know how you feel!!! :( :(

so sorry for you dude :(
I caught a guy breaking into my car once, only had it a week and it was my first carand even though it was a piece of crap '86 ford laser my blood was fully boiling. It was the middle of the night and I woke up to the sound of glass breaking. I ran downstairs and attacked the bastard, wearing nothing but my boxers I laid into him, knocking him backwards, he then took off down the street and left me with glass in my feet, a smashed car window and I wasn't able to sleep properly for the next month or so Hope they find the guy and rip him a new one... |
Oh Animal, that's awful! I know you put a lot of work into the car. I sure hope they do get it back for you!

3) What's a Burfield Joint? 17) The main difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger? Try Those for fun.
I know almost nothing about cars, but I can answer most of these (2-5, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 20). 3 - I think you mean birfield joint, which is a kind of CV joint. 17 has no answer. A turbocharger is a supercharger, just one that relies on a exhaust-driven turbine for its power. A supercharger can refer to any number of methods for supplying high-pressure air to an engine. Usually the term "supercharger" describes a system that uses the shaft for power, however not all superchargers fall into this catagory, a supercharger that used a turbine based off exhaust gasses (a turbocharger) would still be a supercharger. |
Yes they're not too hard. A supercharger is engine/mechanically driven via a belt or gearing etc. A turbo is run by waste gas alone and therefore it doesn't require "engine power" per se to run it. They are in car terms different devices achieving the same goal via near identical methods.
Good call on the constant velocity joint. And although you said you could answer them.....you didn't. |
That really sucks, Animal. I'd guess it's been about a day since your car has been stolen, so it's likely that you can still get it back if you act quickly.
|
I haven't had the experience of losing something that valuable, but I can imagine how shocking and devastating it is.
And, I wish I knew what to say to help you feel better, but all I can say is that I'm sorry that it happened :( |
Sorry man! That's one car that insurance money can't replace! From the sound of it, car thieves have probably had thier eye on it for a while. Cars like that are in high demand on the black market these days. Foreign collectors are willing to pay big bucks for a rare addition, no questions asked.
|
Sorry for you animal!
The biggest thing I had stolen was a palmtop, and that still felt bad, so I can imagine how you feel. Hope you get the car back. |
