the previous thread is here:

Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Cloudbringer 11-11-2003 10:25 PM

 PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

Cloudbringer 11-11-2003 10:27 PM

Just sent my honey off to bed, full of cold rememdies... poor guy can hardly talk tonight, his throat is so sore. :(

Hope everyone here is doing well today. We've got cold and flu season beginning up my way and they predict possible sleet and freezing rain this week...ugh. I've got to do some house cleaning so maybe I'll plan it for the cold and frosty days!

Firestormalpha 11-11-2003 10:35 PM

Wow, New cafe and we didn't even reach 100 posts at the old one. Mostly boring day today. My computer was getting glitchy on me so I ran the disk fixer and it turned out a dirt load of bad file clusters. Probably from all the times that I had to force a restart when it locked up.

Cloudbringer 11-11-2003 10:40 PM

HI Firestormalpha! Every time my Norton Systemworks runs the one button checkup it finds 3 or 4 mistakes in the registry to fix. Hope you got all your glitches fixed up!

SomeGuy 11-11-2003 10:42 PM

So... tired... need... sleep... or caffiene, which ever comes first. *goes to sleep on one of the tables* *uses the pinks napkins as pillows* Ahhh.. much better... *snores*

anyway, how is everyone on the fine forum of IW?

Cloudbringer 11-11-2003 10:58 PM

LOL, wake up, Someguy! You're falling asleep in the donuts! :D I'm doing ok, gotta get to bed for work in the morning and just sent my sweetie to bed, he's got a bad cold. My cats are snoozing and will want treats when I go off to snooze.

Timber Loftis 11-11-2003 11:08 PM

Well, I'm finally leaving work just now. Looks like going to the gym will only be counterproductive at this hour. COme to think of it, I could use a drink or four. Tomorrow, guys.

Lady Blue03 11-11-2003 11:13 PM

Lol, timber :D

Well I have school tomorrow :( But my dad is letting me fly to Las Vegas with him next monday :D what can an 18yr old get up to there?? Well, not much i guess lol

Timber Loftis 11-12-2003 01:15 AM

Yep, Lady Blue, not much. However, some casinos really cater to families. Go ride the roller coaster on top of that one casino -- I've always wanted to do that.

BTW, I did get in a 2 mile run and some weights -- but only for 30 mins. Oh well, I am rejuvinated now. Which is good -- I have a chart to do to complete my project at work -- I project and hour or 2 -- best get going!

Night, all.

*Sneaks Someguy a scotch* Hey, it always wakes me up. Besides, I was drinking regularly at your age -- with a doctor neighbor, in fact. Well, he lost his practice because of drug abuse, but that's another story (he salvaged his practice by going to an ER -- the tale isn't all bad).

i wanna be filled full of cold meds!!!!!!! unfortunately most are not approved for a pregnant woman and those that are dehydrate me :( i would also like my husband to be sympathetic. instead of sympathy i get a guilt trip laid on me :( i'd go into detail but no one wants to hear it.

wellmy throat is sore my sinuses are stuffed, and it's hot in the bedroom. i can't sleep :( i tried. it may not be so hot in there except i have the vaporizor running and so the door has to be shut. oh and nahtan turned the heat up. i know he did it for erilyn, but now i am sweating and i am only running a low grade fever, i feel like i should be running something at least in the 100's

anyway....i'm sorry cloudy that your hunny is sick. i'm sorry that i am jealous of him haveing someone to care for him while he is unwell. have a good night all!

Azred 11-12-2003 01:28 AM

Poor Nachtrafe. I'm sure that you'll doctor him into full health in no time.

The corporate big-wigs bypassed us; after all the work we did last week making everything picture-perfect was in once sense pointless. On the other hand, everything in the store looks picture-perfect. Oh, well...they were targeting problematic stores anyway, so it's just as well they didn't descend upon us.
Besides, my DM told me that she "would have something for me" in 2 weeks; this was last week. I smell a promotion!

You know better than that, RevRuby. There are plenty of folks more than willing to listen to you; all you need do is tell us, if you wish to, that is.

Belle always covers up when she has a fever to sweat it out. She also puts Vicks metholatum rub on her feet; something she learned from her grandmother, apparently. Strangely enough, it works.

Of course not, Azred. Just a $50 dollar bonus for your next paycheck.
Hope you get well soon RevRuby; I know what it's like to be miserably sick. Had the flu a couple of years back, and when I finally agreed to see a doctor he said if I didn't start chuggin fluids I'd have been on dialysis(sp?) by the end of the week. Needless to say, I drank Gatorade till I was about to burst. In the end I was fine. :D I was also happy to find that I didn't get sick for two years straight after that. Then one of the many strains of common cold hit me. Oh well, it happens to everyone.

This is so irritating. I'm gonna be 20 in december and I still have people asking me what grade I'm in, and when I'm gonna graduate :D

I don't doubt! At least I could take Belle out for dinner. She still likes to be wined and dined every now and then.

Do they let youngs whippersnappers your age drive cars?

Firestormalpha 11-12-2003 01:49 AM

Course they do :D . I just haven't yet. I could have started driving at 16 if I wanted to. :D

Timber Loftis 11-12-2003 02:00 AM

Hey, Firestormalpha, try being nearly 30 and still gettng carded for cigs and told by (one of) your bosses that the hairstyle you wore on X day made you look better/older than the gelled spike on Y day, and that you should stick with it.

Azred, good onya, man. As I said elsewhere, at least the store is ready when and if they do come. Personally, I've been scraping by lately to *keep* my job (billable hours were low), and my dreams were to be made a full-on associate by now (with a BIG pay increase). Anyway, I expect to have another job lined up by Feb., so if they don't offer it then (the 1 yr anniversary review we informally agreed to), I guess I'll move on. :( Why is this sad? Because in my profession, every "jump" in employment MUST be explained in interviews.

Luvian 11-12-2003 02:25 AM

Well... I'm giving my sympaties to RevRuby and Nachtrafe. I've got a cold too. Why is it us men can't handle colds? The government can forget biological weapons research, just drop a bomb full of the cold virus in the middle of an ennemy camp/battlefield/town, and you'll disable half the population...

From the pain I get, I think my brain is melting and oozing from my nose... http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon28.gif

I'm not sure if I will survive the night. ;)

Timber, you know you're in a brutal and unforgiving industry; because you're not an associate you must work twice as hard just to get half the recognition. Heaven forbid you make a "mistake"...you'll never hear the end of it.
"Must be explained?" As if interviews weren't tough enough. "Why do you want to leave your current position?" "Because I need more money." Do you tell the truth or what?

Luvian, Belle rolls her eyes when I use foul language in a vain attempt to cure whatever ailment is currently plaguing me at the time. Strangely enough, it never seems to work...why is that?

Zuvio 11-12-2003 04:13 AM

Hey Timber: next time someone makes such a comment, tell them their pants look really nice; anything to keep the attention away from the head!! :D

Oh no, that works even more counterproductive then the Gym...... :D

Luvian 11-12-2003 04:34 AM

Dimetapp don't work... I've used up a box of tissue and 3 rolls of paper towels in less than 6 hours.

Horatio 11-12-2003 05:03 AM

Hi all! Wow, seems I've gotten off easy, I only have a mild cold. Small case of the sniffles and a bit of a fever last night, but apart from that I'm fine! Get better guys!

Strewth! how much is up there????

Has a sick thought of someone drowning in their sleep... ugh

Just done 12 hours overtime today and was so tired that on the way home I had to pull the car over on the freeway and sleep for half an hour!

RevRuby 11-12-2003 05:44 AM

how's this...i'd go into detail about my husbands guilt trip he lays on me except *he* doesn't want anyone to hear it. oh well. it if gets too bad i can rant to a bunch of women on the babycenter boards. at least he doesn't visit there

interesting about vicks on the feet....don't think i could cover up. i can't stand being sweaty. can't sleep that way. besides i'd have to drink like twice the fluids i already do just to keep hydrated.

sorry you are sick too luvian. i thought dimetap was more for caoughs than congestion. try nyquil or dayquil or sudafed, something else. altho i'd love some dimetap, my throat hurts so bad from coughing!!!

i am just glad i have somewhere to go and complain about it at 530 in the am. otherwise i'd be stuck sitting on my couch petting a cat whose only thought is "don't sneeze on me, i just bathed!"

fsa-i wish i could have lots of gatorade.....but it costs money :( we don't have a whole bunch of that. in fact i was so happy to be overcharged $.52 for a box of tylenol pm yesterday, got the whole thing free for it! gatorade does sound good tho. but as far as flu goes i've only gotten it once in my life, and iw as very young. i remember being put in a luke warm (felt mor elike ice) bath to bring my temp down. also earlier this year/pregnancy i had strep, ended up breaking my own fever one night by bathing in hot water then laying down in a cold bed, i did that about 3 times adn next day i wasn't feverish anymore.

oh geez....i feel like i wrote a novel...ok time to bug someone else...ttyl!

Perfectly understandable. Some people don't wish to air dirty laundry in a public forum.

If you're anything like Belle, then the idea that someone is willing to listen is sometimes enough, even if nothing is said.

I'm out of nyquil. I had just enough for last night. :(

My nose is not as runny anymore, but I used up another roll of paper, I'm down to my last one now. I have school tonight, I hope it will be under control by then, I can't afford to miss again.

dplax 11-12-2003 07:34 AM

In the last two weeks I went through about 75 handkerchiefs, but I am in no danger of running out of them.

Didn't you see the sign by the door? The cafe is quarantined, you're stuck inside now, too.

johnny 11-12-2003 09:14 AM

Good thing i brought a potion of immunity+5 then, no way i'm ending up in bed with a runny nose like you guys. :D

Luvian 11-12-2003 09:25 AM

I should have gotten such a potion while I still had the time! This could have helped my saving throws...

Oh well... I'll be better in 1d4 days. ;)

Timber Loftis 11-12-2003 09:46 AM

Let us remember to be thankful for our colds -- they clean the gunk out of us. ;)

I'll be thankful when it's gone!

Still... it's nice to be sick once in a while to remind us how nice it is to be healty. It's something we usually take for granted.

cloud ff7 38 11-12-2003 09:58 AM

I have been having a sore throat for a couple days now it very annoying because i cant really speak i will be thankful when its over.

Hello all, how are you today?
I have half a project to do tonight for tommorow, and revising for a big test.
Isn't my life great?
PS. I tried to get a positive attitude.

Firestormalpha 11-12-2003 10:44 AM

DS when was the project assigned? And, if it wasn't assigned just today, why haven't you started on it already?
