I've watched this show a couple of times, and usually I'm able to pick up on anime storylines and such fairly quick. But I was watching Cartoon Network's Adult Swim and I'm baffled, can anyone who watches anime please explain to me what FLCL is supposed to be about?

chaos anime
its storyline and plot sequence is basically rooted around chaotic/random thoughts that the maker thought would be funny.

as for the basic background
well theres this kid, who has a brother whos off someplace, and his brothers girlfriend is always coming on to him. theres also psycho girl whos using the kid for godknowswhat (youll know at the end of the anime what) Theres some backstory/plot to each character in the series (i wont spoil) so itell tell a little bit about whos who in each episode.

but anyhow, theres only 6 episodes and all of them are *wierd* and full of funny ideas and events and of course strange and odd events. the larger part of the plot of the series revolves around the vespa driving girl who is...sorry no spoils!

Yup I followed the story from start to finish. It's purely Chaotic. Though Cartoon Networks line up has changed. I'm now watching Big O, just finished watching Inuyasha. I'm not sure about what the next two are. The next one is represented by a fly of some sort, and the other looks like some guy with a stick or blade in one hand.

Hmmm... That's odd. I thought they were done showing FLCL. Now they're showing it at 1:00 instead of 12:00. I'm assuming this is only temporary considering I've already seen the entire 6 episodes 2 and a half times now. They're showing the firestarter episode again.

The only things we get here is Toonami, part of the Cartoon Network channel and they only send CRAP out here :(
Yu-Gi-Oh, card captor sakura, DBZ & DBGT for the 469th time and sailor moon...... :( :(

Thanks for clearing that up, I was picking at my brain trying to see if there was a storyline at all, now I know there isn't, makes sense

Six episodes you say? The maker run out of funny ideas?

I disagree, Zuvio, Toonami is great!!

IMO FLCL is the worst anime ever created I hate it with a huge passion.
But if you find it good thats cool but it only has six episodes.

Well then we don't have the same Toonami ;)

Hmph, Toonami was half decent before they took off Dragon Ball Z and put that bizarre gundam wing series in

Basically you just have to watch all 6 episodes to find out. whenver my freinds ask me what it's about I just use Phraises from the series to confuse the heck out of 'em

Example:

Freind: "What the heck is she hitting him on the head with the guitar for?"

Me: "She needs to get IT out!"

on the screen: "Why doesn't it come out?"

Freind: "WHAT'S GOTTA' COME OUT!?"

Me: "iiiit!"

It think Gainax Prides itself in the fact that this Anime makes no since at all, Gainax usually does stuff like that (watching the end of Evangelion will have a similar effect)

Along with giving you a depressive phase and make your brain boil with trying to work out exactly what is going on. :D

Also, I noticed people make the simplest things have a hidden meaning...for example:

Hm...Asuka's room number is 303...oooh! In l33t speak that's EoE!! Gasp!!

...you get the picture...I mean, how on earth would the creator (forgot his name) know l33t?!?

Firestormalpha 11-11-2003 04:58 PM

What do you mean, Gangrel? I think SD Gundam is kinda cute, in a strange kiddy show kinda way. I prefer Gundam Wing, over SD Gundam. I still remember when Toonami first started. It was all about Voltron, ThunderCats, and Johnny Quest. :D those were the days I wouldn't mind if they had actually completed the Kenshin series though. I never got to see the whole thing. Hopefully the Sunday night episodes will cover it. Then there's YuYu Hakusho, They get so close to the BIG fight in (I think its called the Darkworld Tournament?) oh well, whatever, but the point is, they get so far then they restart the series all over again.

Gangrell 11-11-2003 06:11 PM

Well, SD Gundam is alright, but I prefer the original series over all. I remember some of the old shows they used to have on, Sailor Moon, Tenchi, but I remember Reboot being one of my favorite ones when they reached the later episodes.

LOL the Creator did speak in L33t but it wasnt really l33t it was just upside down, Evangelion is HEAVILY layden with hidden messages, FOOLEY COOLEY however, is only filled with Anime References put in to make fun of the Anime Genre as a whole. Just look at the Lupin III, Gundam, and Otaku-No-Video references... Electric Guitars for Justice, for cryin' out loud! They even managed to make fun of Southpark in all of this, and I think that's just great.

This show stole my heart, it really did, I just down-right freakin' loved it and would have to call it the best Anime of all time because it isn't afraid to admit that you're watching an anime!

Thats the reason most people dont like anime it makes no sense. But in Japan they look at it more as moving art in the leagues with the mona lisa.
Americans just see it as more racey cartoons with intresting plots and storylines. Also the end of eva is pretty damn weird.

Amen! The last EVA episode was truly awesome, it got me upside down on my chair! Anime is indeed for our western standards a little odd and sometimes even incoherent, but to me, that is wahat is so attractive about them. That and the dynamic cool animatons.

slicer15 11-12-2003 02:19 PM

Oh yeah, the animations are cool, and usually of excellent quality (I pray I did not misunderstand ). And I preferred the original ending (episode 25 & 26) than EoE, considering it is far more positive...EoE was plain depressing and wierd...but there are always fics, and my imagination...
