Hey how ya all doin kids?
After viewing various threads regarding baldurs gate 2 and what not, a thought occured to me, What exactly makes up the forums? By this i mean, tell me kids "what ARE you?", what do you class yourself as image wise? surfie? skaty? goth? kid who needs to get out of the house more?etc What music do you all listen to? do we sit back and enjoy the tunes of Linkin Park? or do we bop along to our fully sick subwoofa moite tunes? Worry not kids, i wish not for your personal details just giz us an insight as to who you are. It should be indeed interesting to find out that a hard core punker is happily exchanging game tips with a teeny booper. Okay catch ya later kids |
I'd say the vast majority of people that regularly post on the General discussion boards arn't 'kids' at all, and as such arn't foolish enough to define themselves with the singular labels you've mentioned.
|
aww Hierophant a little testy there ain't ya? but no, alot of people who are members here are older than "kids" and I am not classified as anything, I listen to any music that I like, this ranges from clasical, to some forms of rap, to the sounds of metal. so I am not in any clasifaction
|
Ooooooh! Grrrr! ease up turbo!
Kids is merely just a word of which i use rather than dude or dawg! if it offends ya that much i think someone may need a little "cool down time". Seriously, "kid"... it aint THAT bad Ha! fair enough good point..curse my list of examples! next time just for you buddy, i shall endeavour to please and make an extensive list with every classification of image known to man! Come on kid it was merely just a few measly examples to get the ball rollin! Anyhoo.... |
Ahh yes i hear exactly what your sayin Stormymystic, shall we then change it for as the The Hierophant says,"the vast majority of people that regularly post on the General discussion boards arn't 'kids' at all" to what you were when you were littluns?
Yeah im the same with the music, no classification liking heavy metal and dance music and what not |
man, no offence, but you need to calm down as well, being rude is not nice, and can get you in trouble, and he knows better
|
haha indeed! :D , i apologize for my rudeness! Just merely trying to get a point across...
!!!Im sitting at the computer when there are M&M's ready for my consumption!?! I shall return! Once again sorry kids! Try not to let my babbling ruin your night..Okay I'll stop! |
yeah, I was harsh. Sorry.
But instead of compiling a list of "every classification of image known to man" you could just abandone the concept of image classification and just accept people's individuality. Believe it or not, you don't have to belong to a 'group' in order to feel socially acceptable. |
Ahh for sure im completley for individuality but having a class makes it ever so much more fun! Come on, this wasnt meant to be taken seriously! i do not wish to offend...gotta love my grand entrance to the forums...
It was just to see what type of people come on here to get a thread going...i shall head back to the abyss.... |
All 'kinds' frequent the Ironworks boards man ;) All with their own unique personalities and quirks. Everyone gets accepted for being who they are, that's why these boards are such a great place to post. So anyway, just have faith in what you have to say, and say it. There's no need to be part of a class here man.
|
woah woah woah! dont get me wrong! im not some little ignorant kid who defines people by what their image is! (despite the rumours :D )
I agree entirely with what you are saying! It was just one of those little quirky questions just like "who is your favourite BG character" and what not. Ahh...too much sugar... |
id would rather not go by labels but I would say im skater "punk'" as they say in my school. I listen to stuff like rancid ,dead kenndeys ,rage against the machine, iron maiden, motley crue, and lots of other stuff that is considered not the norm.

as far as classes go....i dunno what i am...i am a mom, wife, punker, i've attempted skate boarding....but i can't be called a skater, i like country music, old school rock, some new, i hate rap, i really don't like computer rpgs (yeh i know what am i doing here?) i like playing pnp 2ed AD&D, i like collecting dice and painting miniatures, i like to make my family's costumes for halloween, i love my mother in law and dislike my mother, i hang out at babycenter.com, and i'm 7 1/2 months pregnant. can you define that? i think i can...i'm 23, that all that goes into that definition. |
and with that two people shine from the abyss and anwer the actual propsed question! cheers kids!
oh oh double post..cloud...tsk tsk RevRuby you go girl! making costumes is HARD! On that topic...Does anyone know who Spineshank, Disturbed and 40 Below Summer are? and if so, what do ya think of them? |

Oh dear, one day and Joels already got a warning...
I'm Sorry! i now know the errors of my smug attitude! i swear it shall be the death of me or at least result in serious bodily harm to my person! I never meant to offend! (anyone else just get de-ja-vue? ) Sorry Kids! |
Indulge my kids? Oh, I never do. Strict discipline is my motto.
|

Far out dude! We're at the same wavelength, can you dig it? I'm a hardcore, gabber-punk from holland, but that's just what I want you to think. I'm actually a sensitive guy who likes classical music, you still dig? People here at the boards (no dude, not surfing boards ) are not kids at all, kid. We be rpg-loving rolePLAYAZ for life, capice? We know a lot, talk/discuss a lot, we like to have fun a lot. Be cool, don't be a square and join in! Step by the cafe if you haven't already, lotsa ears that like to listen, comprende? |
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
See its all a learning process kids! Im learning more and more about ya's! lol I dont do that whole "dude" surfie lingo...i tend to speak in a language of my own...with the roshta crostha noshta and what not... |

Aaah, I see! Well I don't use any lingo whatsoever, I use ABN (Algemeen Beschaafd Nederlands => Civilized Dutch ) normally, but on the boards its more convenient to use proper english :D Welcome BTW! |
sorry for the double post didnt really mean too.....
|
:D proper english hey... i...i..shall give it a try...
|
Heh, heh! As you get older, you wear a lot of different "Hats". Variety is the spice of life!
Me? I'm a divorced single parent, part womanizer, part jaded bachelor, part sensitive guy, part cook, part muscle bound jock, part Army Sergeant, part redneck, part gentleman, part amateur mechanic, part science buff, part computer nerd, part geeky ham radio operator, part video game enthusiast, etc. I don't specialize too well. I'm not an insect, you know? By the way guys, don't be so hard on him. If he's as young as he sounds, he's just trying to find his "niche". Everyone does when they're young. It takes a while to realize that you're your own "niche" in the end! ;) |
Kids, Kids, Kids...
I am pleased with the results of this 'interesting' post. I have been able to see the different attitudes of other forum folk...quite interesting indeed... Rather than follow my formula, i ask you now to just tell me a bit about the people of the forums if you so desire..but if not can someone change the topic please! :D |
Quote:
Well, you're the topic-starter, so change away. I guess only thread-posters can change the topic if the topic-starter agrees with the change, or if you're in the cafe, where pretty much anything is ok. Else you gotta start a new thread, it's as easy as that. But now what? You want us to tell about the real us, or about someone else of the board? I really think you'll be better of with PM or a search or do some profile checking, most of us have real info in there. Or make up a questionnaire and e-mail it to everyone so you have all the info right there! |
Stop calling us "kids" and we might treat you like a mate It's stupid calling grown men and women "kids", I'd rather be referred to as "dude" than "kid" if it comes to that. As for image? Well I listen mainly to rap but don't dress like a thug or anything, heh...so basically you couldn't tell.
|
If you want to know who we all are, your easiest solution is to simply read the forums and get to know us over a little bit of time.
And I have to agree with Vaskie, calling us 'kids' sounds condescending, at best. Why not drop the affectation and just interact with us individually. *grins at the mere notion of calling Vaskez 'dude'* |
Wow... double clouds... that's rare, even in the land of the cloudy skies
For the record, use of the term "kids" in American tends to imply that the speaker is in a position of authority over those spoken to, and those spoken to are not worthy of individual designation. Using "guys" (or guys and gals, for the PC folks) is much more common. I tend to use "folks" when I talk, largely because I'm talking to folks (there I go again!) older than me, and it feels more inclusive and homey. Not rap-homey, but down-south-homey. I have worked with folks whose native tongue is not English, and depending on their teachers, slang and common usage may not have been well taught. For example, I remember cringing when a French-speaking guest of mine called for the waiter at a restaurant as "Boy!". While it's a literal translation, it's not a real translation. Okay, I'm going to crawl back under my rock now. And when I come out, I bet the clouds will have shrunk in half ;) *edit* Son of a gun! They shrunk before I even finished typing! This may sound silly, so please don't scold me: if you want to adresss a large group of people, you might refer to them as ...... PEOPLE!!! :D You people this, you people that, the people here are, why are people etc etc etc |
People works too, but it feels a little condescending to me. Probably because too many times have I heard people (there it goes!) refer to "THOSE people", implying that a particular group was beneath them.
Sheesh! You can overanalyze everything, and the beauty of the English language (and many others) is that you can convey your message in multiple ways. Hmph. Wonder if this was ever a topic in a foreign language class... :D |
Call me "kid" if you like, it makes me feel a few decades less old. Or, you can call me what I am -- a muppet. :D
|
unless he admits to himself he is a 90 yr person.. then i dont mind being called a kid
|
I'm not quite sure how to react to being called 'kid'...down here everyone is called 'dude'
So me, er, I like punk (and not pop punk mind you. real stuff), rock metal, and if i'm in the mood, trance is good. My dress style is kind of my own...my pants tend to be only Dickies brand and I like to wear guy style shorts with cute girly tops, mostly dark shades, if not black all together But like our Cloudlady said, just regular 'lurking' is a good way to see how the individuals work on this forum. Might I suggest Cloudy's Cafe :D |
Hmm very interesting indeed...dudes
I know i am quite capable of changing the topic, i just wished to keep it going...oh well I must ask does 'kid' really offend "the older men"? It doesnt bother my dad, but then again he knows me and as my subordinate, he'll go under any label i call him! :D ...Varten... Joking! Yeah your all right, its stupid of me to ask such closed questions, i shall have to watch myself in the future. I'll drop the whole idea and "lurk" the posts as it was suggested. Over and out... I wear what I want to, I listen to the music I want to and you can't honestly label me with any designation outside of my gender and religion. I defy designations such as punker, goth, or anything like that. To most of my close friends I'm more the big teddy bear type, though. :D
Oh yeah, I'm the infamous FS that Stormy was refering to. My problem with foot in mouth stems primarily from the fact that it is all too easy for me to forget that there are people on the other sides of the names here. I think I've been better about that as of late. Then again that's when my mightier than thou attitude can strike viciously without warning. I'm gonna have to double check my posts for attitude from time to time. :D [ 11-08-2003, 12:02 AM: Message edited by: Firestormalpha ] |
Refering to people as "kids" in a friendly way, is acceptable slang speaking around my parts. Before I moved to Boston, I had a friend from Rhode Island who called everyone kid. Doesn't bother me in the slightest!
So wassup up, kid! Welcome to Ironworks :D edit-dyslexia struck hard LOL edit part 2- I guess I should try answer your inquiry- I like all sorts of music, but SKAFUNKRASTAPUNK has alway been one of my favorite monikers because a.)it rhymes and b.) because I especially like ska, funk, rasta, and punk..along with hip-hop, jazz, metal, classical, rock, ect.... Anyway..Cheers [ 11-08-2003, 03:16 AM: Message edited by: Chewbacca ] |

Hey, I love the violins too, kid!! :D |
I am a teacher, brother, friend, fiance, son, cousin, etc. I listen to all types of music, although I detest Linkin Park. I think labels are immature. I like sleeping in.

I personally don't care what you call people as long as it isn't derogatory - you can call them kids, babes, sweethearts, peeps, whatever amuses you - but try not to be a smartass. That's what gets people irritated, not what you call them. You probably just rubbed people the wrong way with your patronising, condescending, "speak to the peasants" attitude in your first few posts. No different from many other people who got off on the wrong foot. Shit happens when you join up and all that. Keep being a smartass and you won't last long...but there's no need for that. You seem like a nice bloke - your opening gambit was possibly misunderstood. Aussies have an odd sense of humour at times. Go on, kiddo! Prove us wrong. :D ;) Welcome to Ironworks, by the way.
