Mouse 11-01-2003 06:22 PM

My Lords, Ladies and gentlemen, gather ye round for a sorry tale.......

Today, at approximately 1.30 pm (GMT) Mouse parted company with his bright red 1991 Volkswagen Corrado G60.

It was a relationship built on his absolute devotion to her, but eventually even he could not deny the fact the she was the archetype of "high maintenence". He woke up today (slightly hungover - no change there :D ) and stumbled into her waiting embrace.

Slowly, he coaxed her to full responsiveness, only for her to flash a warning red glint back. He partook of professional councelling only to be told that her bottom end was beyond redemption and that she would need major surgery if she was ever to return to her previous frisky state.

Mouse hardened his heart and walked away.

The End *sob*

After a professional evaluation, I realized this problem was the exact cause for my leaving my first wife.

Mouse, while I lack you're devotion, I DO feel your pain; it is so hard to release the past, but trust me brother, upgrading your model is the true path to enlightenment. ;) :D

You're not getting a quarter out of me!

Anyways, sorry for your loss. I hope your new love will be all the last one wasn't.

Aww, poor Mouse. :(
That wasn't the car you showed me in that poll of mine on how much cars suck, as it?

Sorry to say it's a sheep in wolf's clothing. Heavy and not very quick, I work on these for a living (and better). Nice looking car however, also known as a GTO.

Mouse, sorry to hear the bottom fell out of your world. :(

You did the right thing Mouse. Once the old bottom end goes it's only a matter of time. Time to move on.

Apologies for my ignorance but,
What exactly does, "the bottom end is gone" mean?

Arledrian 11-03-2003 12:57 PM

She lost all her bottomly-shapelyness, Bristowe. That's a good a reason as any to leave a woman :D

Mouse 11-03-2003 01:03 PM

Thanks for the interest and sympathy. However, I am now the owner of a smart looking black 1996 Nissan Primera 2L SRI with 52,000 miles on the clock. No doubt it will cause me some heartache, but that's life :D

Err, the chassis separated from the rest of the body? Axle fell off?

</font>
<font color=lime> I am confused. Please explain... </font>

Mouse 11-04-2003 03:12 AM

In this particular setting (and if I've used the term incorrectly - so what ) "bottom end gone" means that the cylinder block is corroded and starting to lose coolant. The garage I took it to said the car was still driveable, provided I kept the coolant levels topped up. However, the only way to see the total extent of the corrosion would be to virtually disassemble the engine. Then the options would be to either a) try patching with some sort of sealant or b) more likely to junk the engine block and source a replacement.

As they quoted me around £250 simply to disassemble/reassemble for the investigation, and the worst case scenario would probably cost a four figure sum to rectify, I decided it was time to cut my losses.

Strangely enough, I've always liked the Primera hatchback, and so when I saw it for sale, I simply did the deed (and got a £1000 trade in for the Corrado). I have probably gone against all canny car buying advice, because the Primera was sold "as seen", but what the hell ;)

Thats ok they bought the Volks bottom unseen

And when you said bottom end gone I thought you ment the crank bearing or similar. You mean to say the actual engine corroded through? not just a seal. Like any <s> woman </S> cars they need some degree of maintenance, When was the last time you did a change and flush of the coolant?

Good luck and safe fun with your new love

Vaskez 11-04-2003 06:44 AM

If it's similar to the Primera that my mate had, you've got a snazzy vehicle on your hands, nice one Mousey boy :D

Mouse 11-04-2003 11:41 AM

Final update, today I've taken my new wheels on a near 300 mile round trip. She feels tight as a gnat's chuff and will happily sit at 80 mph all day. Fuel consumption looks good too. Apart from a nagging feeling that she has suffered some front end damage in the past (slightly wonky panel fit around one of the headlights), and a malfunctioning cigarette lighter, she seems fine. No doubt she will end up breaking my heart and lightening my wallet, but nothing ventured, nothing gained :D

RevRuby 11-05-2003 10:36 AM

hey mouse...we are going through something very similar.....

my lovely maggie (1988 dodge omni, 4 door sedan, ice blue) got diagnosed about a month ago with a "shot head gasket." before this the kelly blue book value of her was only $600-$750. but the cost to fix was $500-$600. seeing as how she has been having problems every 3-6 months we decided to find something else.

this breaks my heart as altho she is old her miles are young, only 103,000. she was my first car, and nathan has suggested letting her go for fundraiseing as a beat-the-car-with-a-sledge-hammer deal. i can't beleive he would suggest that....my poor maggie.

anyway we now have a 95 buick century with 120,000 on it. she's nice, but she's no maggie. which is probably good....she's probably not a money pit and i can fit all three kids in the back.

oh well....good luck with your new car.
