Just a reminder, this could be something you will only see once in your life. Since we just got hit with one of the largest CmE Solar Flares in history, you will be able to see the northern lights (as seen in Alaska and such) as far south as Texas and Here in Florida TONIGHT!

WOW!!!

Get our your cameras--get them ready! If you snap some pic's, email them to me at webmaster@ironworksforum.com and I'll post them right here tomorrow or whenever I get one!! I'll be out tonight! (Look to the North around 9PM your time through 3AM).

Should be neat!

8 our time
Hmmm...I live in San Antonio (Central Time Zone), it was 8:13pm when I went outside, and all I saw in all directions was plenty of stars...do you know how far south it can be seen? Maybe just northern Texas.

Gabrielles blades 10-29-2003 09:35 PM

anyone in florida see it? i dont:(

Stormymystic 10-29-2003 09:46 PM

I don't but do see something really weird going on with the starts, the look like they are moving in a zig zag patteren back and forth, thought at first it was a sattelite, but all of them are doing it

Firestormalpha 10-29-2003 09:49 PM

Nope, I don't see them, Gabrielles. Where abouts in Florida are you? I'm about 3-3.5 hours south of Orlando, and no special effects :( . Then again I live in an area with a lot of light polution. I'm not sure if or how that would affect it.

Ziroc, did you see any lights?

That's the gases in the atmosphere making them do that--they ARE blinking brighter/faster tonight.. cool stuff!

Stormymystic 10-29-2003 10:02 PM

I just wish I had not lost my batteries, cuz I would love to take pics of the stars, the look cool here, one a few are flashing many different colors almost at once beautiful, I wish I did not live next to the airport, would be better without all the lights

In that case you'd see them before I do.

Oh yeah, according to my dad the thunderstorm I saw about 2-4am this morning, with the red clouds, was possibly the result of the Solar Flare. The lighting activity was exceptionally high with little precipitation. It was pretty cool actually.

Nanobyte 10-29-2003 11:23 PM

Where did you come by this information, Z? I just checked and saw nothing, and it would appear to be the same for everyone else. Ah well, maybe they'll be out later, when it starts getting lighter out, but I need sleep. Don't want to get sick

Stormymystic 10-29-2003 11:31 PM

ok, umm how long does any one light show last? is it continuos? or can it happen in a flash? cuz I saw like 3 different orange flashes, while watching the leaves fall from the willow tree :/ am I seeing things, or can they be split second things?

Chewbacca 10-29-2003 11:43 PM

Faint blue light paints the sky near Boston. :D

Iron_Ranger 10-30-2003 01:21 AM

Azred 10-30-2003 01:27 AM

*pout* Far too much light pollution here to see anything. I would have to drive 30 minutes west, north, or east to try and see anything.

Chewbacca 10-30-2003 01:39 AM
