You know I really envy all these newbies who are playing the Baldurs Gate series for the first time, the first time was special. How fresh and new everything must seem to them, I wish that I could wipe all memories of the game my mind and start anew. But alas it's never going to happen
Is it just me or do any of you fell the same way as me? (maybe I could try and get amnesia by hitting my head repeatedly against the wall, umm on second thoughts maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea) [ 07-24-2002, 07:49 PM: Message edited by: Daniel ] |
I agree, it was a great experience, but with all these mods to download its almost the same feeling.
almost(sigh) |
Me too...although I still haven't seen a few things in the game ;) ...

I agree ive played through twice, once with a monk once with a wizard. My third time around its so much easier since I know how to prepare for almost every battle. I cant believe how hard Irenicus's first dungeon was my first time around my monk got killed by the lightning mephits!

Yeah, i know, Irenius's Dungeon was really hard, i feel sorry for people who never played BG1 first. They must have died hundreds of times.

Yep that was me!

Ah, memories.. You know, I seem to get overly emotional about things like this.. But whenever I decide to play the original BG, and hear the theme, it brings a tear to my eye. My life was so simpler back then, and the music takes me back to when I was a simple newbie to almost everything RP related except Dnd. I hadn't played online, hadn't played any games online or anything. It was just blissful ignorance.
I remember thinking that no game could ever top BG. Not SoA, not IWD, nothing. Then I played SoA. It blew my mind. The char dialogue, the rich plot, it was all beyond my expectations. I dunno. Maybe I'm getting overly sappy. Kleenex, anyone? When I downloaded the ROM for FFVI, the music brought me WAY back. THOSE were the days, when I had no responsibilities. It's like, the music and games I've played through my life have left an impression on my mind, and bring me back to the stage of my life I was in. Anyhoo, sorry for getting overly emotional on you people and getting off topic. It would be nice if I could play the entire BG saga all over again like it was new, but it's also nice to be a veteran player, I suppose. |
Yup, I do wish to do all of that again. Everything seems so different first time round, I swear the area was different, and the monsters.

Installing mods definatley helps us veterans of BG2 enjoy i more(at least it did for me!). I recently went back and played BG1, and i was like WOW this is too easy! I should do that more often :D

Yeah, don't everyone envy those newbies. Now playing SoA again and again seems so boring. The first time I played the game I thought that it was better than any other RPG games and I didn't want to stop playing it... But now after clocking the whole thing a couple of times every thing seems gay. I do hope that they make more BG games.

Err.... guys mind if u tell me what is with the "Elite Waterdeep Guards"? I dunno what they are.....
|
Aye, I agree with you fully, Daniel. I really wish I could just start the game all over, without remembering a shit.

First time's always the best, isn't it.

I still remember the first time I played SoA. I was a naive Sorcerer and chose all kinds of 'wrong' spells like Confusion, Dominate, Disintegrate, etc... ...
I still managed to complete the game though, and it was a blast. First time beating Firkragg, Kangaxx, the Twisted Rune, etc... they might not be the most efficient fights I ever had, but the satisfaction of beating them on my own was thrilling. |
Yeah back when it was all new it was great to see a fresh new story. It's still great, but the sense of discovery made it even better.

Ooooh, how I agree with Daniel. The first time you sat your eyes on the BG box, with the evil grin of Sarevok on the front... aaaw... those were the days. I always get a feeling of nostalgy when playing through or just looking at older games (and things in general), not only because of the feelings you experienced while playing, but also because of the memories attached to that certain era in your life... *sob* Oh, how I'd love to erase the memory of BG2, and play the adventure all over again, like a newbie.
(Still, I've started the game over like ten times now, not playing more than a chapter or two, getting cut off by my computer which has a tendency to break down... so I guess in some ways, I might be considered a newbie.) /Kiyatha [ 07-26-2002, 02:07 PM: Message edited by: Kiyatha ] |

so you're all envious of me, isn't it ironic.

Absolute newbie. Just got started playing these kinds of games late last year and am absolutely hooked! The action, the humor, the dialog, the men in chain mail. The first time around, I answer everyone straight; second time around, I get to be myself and be a real smart ass.

For some of the same feel in a more modern setting, try "Jagged Alliance 2." Excellent voice acting, some pretty good character interaction, and a chance to save the poor downtrodden from great evil. A fairly old game (c 1999, I think), so not cutting-edge graphics and so forth, but a nice story. And a few new techniques to learn.
