These things rule, I just got off their web-site and I'm convinced, they are the best. I think I'm gonna get one for christmas this year (evil grin). Tell me what you think!!!

Awesome equipment at not so cheap prices. But still well worth what you pay.

Timber Loftis 10-06-2003 12:19 AM

I'm still considering an Area51 for my upcoming laptop purchase. However, to get the least expensive model that has everything I want, it's $2200 -- without the extended warranty. :(

But, working with Nvidia to create the first upgradeable graphics chip in a laptop is AWESOME.

Anyone know of the customer service reputation of alienware? What about initial software loads -- specifically Word or Office??

T/-/alali 10-06-2003 06:14 AM

They have FREE 24/7 tech support but I don't know about word and stuff.

I would buy one just for the wicked cool acid-green design!! It's just the $2200 min. thats a little bit of a problem :(

What gave you the idea that acid is green? BG2? :D

Timber Loftis 10-06-2003 11:12 AM

Stay away from the brown acid. :D

RoSs_bg2_rox 10-06-2003 11:39 AM

I like how you can make your own computer and choose what it has. I once made one to see what the most expensive u could make was and it was like $17,000! A little bit too much for me I think!

Brown acid?? That sounds even worse :D
Only acid I've seen is pretty clear and colourless.

Lady Blue03 10-06-2003 02:13 PM

Keep in mind Alienware is designed for gamers. Why would you want MS Word on it in the first place :D

I was trying to convince my mom to buy me one of the laptops for xmas before I decided to go to NZ...she was like....noooo way in hell

A better question is: why would you want a seperate PC for running MS Word (since most people need it anyway)?

I would be very tempted to wait on buying a computer until the Athlon FX51 chips become more available.

Look around. There are many places to buy comperable if not faster computers than the Alienware pc's for much less money. The only reason to buy an Alienware pc is for the snazzy case (which looks absolutely amazing).

But hey, if you have the money, go for it. They certainly are nice pc's in general.

Lady Blue03 10-06-2003 03:02 PM

Well if you're like me, you buy an Alienware PC for yourself, then use the family computer for homework (MS Word) :D

I was thinking of applying for the alienware credit card...my parents did say i could have one. Plus its the only way to finance one of their computers,

Seems like i can get a decent one for 1.7k....i wonder if my parents will go for it :D

My child would be SOOOO grounded for going out and purchasing a $1700 Alienware Area 51 Laptop on a credit card... But I on the other hand would SOOOO much enjoy it! :D :D :D

Alienware looks awesome - and prices aren't too bad.

But since I live in Europe and would have to send the PC to the US if someting went wrong with it, I decided to buy locally in this summer. (and you get two years warranty as standard in DK)

Still - I wouldn't have minded having one of them here.

I maybe a bit off topic but doed anyone have an opinion on either dell or gateways gaming pcs?

RitingFool 10-06-2003 08:47 PM

Someone mentioned Athlon chips. I usually get Celeron processors to save money, but how are Athlon CPU's as compared to Celeron or P4's?

Any information on this is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Michael

Athlons comepete with the equivalent Pentium very well - you pay less for the same or more power. The trouble is athlons dont go up to the same clockrate as the P4, so if you absolutely must have the fastest computer on the planet, you have to go intel.

But athlons run on a different motherboard that the pentium, so if you already have a decent setup you might be better off getting a new pentium. Or not, the new P4s run in a different socket to the celerons, so youd need a new mobo anyway.

Alienware pcs rock! A friend of mine and I have spent countless hours drooling over their cases...I'd love to get one but they're waaaaay too expensive for me.
