I'm sure this topic has been posted 800 times before, but ... I'm new so I haven't seen it. My question is: when's a good time to battle him, and what strategies do you guys recommend? Obviously, equipping the fire resistance armors and having some fireshield spells, etc. ready is a starting point ... but I mean, beyond that - is there anything else to do other than hack away? And, roughly what levels should the character/s be at before going at it? Thanks.

I fight him (SPOILER) after I get done after the Underdark, so my guy's can easily kill him.

I recently started a thread about this very subject and I must concur, don't rush into it. I learned that the hard way. lol!

I recommend an average party level of 12+.

*managed it at level 10 (average party level)*

look at the red dragon topic to see how

The best suggestion I have come across is to equip yourself with loads of cloudkill spells, scrolls or wands and keep firing them in without actually going near Firkargg. He does heal himself occasionally so you have to get your timing right - I sent in 4 cloudkills and left them to clear then sent in another five whilst occupying him with an fire elemental to stop him healing himself. Didnt even have to get in close contact except when he turned my fire elemental against me!

I usually just use my fighters as a distraction and my 2 mages do most of the fighting. Strangely enough I find that after his resistance is lowered magic missle is very effective. I kill him using only magic missles over and over with two mages it doesn't take too long.

I have all of my party members in level 12+, with my fighters bashing on it, and my mages casting lower magic resistance and many offensive spells on it.
Works only good a few times, though.

A couple of summons to keep him busy, some good melee weapons for your fighters (maybe hasted but not necessary) and insect plagues, magic missile, holy smite, acid arrow, call lightning (and maybe some other offensive spells but this should do it.

Just a gentle reminder that Call Lightning does not work indoors. I am surprised nobody has mentioned Harm though.

Axe-Lord 07-19-2002 03:40 PM

i found that if you stay back and cast cloud kills and Ice Storms that worked really well. didnt even have to raise a sword. you have to keep the spells going though. My party was about level 10.

Call Lightning would work well on the other dragon though. ;)

I used my monk, took him down with quivering palm.
Yes, that would work too. It's inside, but it is a big hole in the floor over it. So it would work on that one too.
