Must be related to the whole kilts thing.

johnny 08-12-2003 08:44 PM

They must be from clan McHaggis. :D

Kakero 08-12-2003 08:48 PM

maybe because the voice actors are scottish in origin?

What's up with etriological elven questiosns this week? First we have questiosn about elven pubes and now we're attacking their accents? I've seen many an elf without a scottish accent though...

The Hierophant 08-12-2003 11:22 PM

if anything they should have Nordic/Scandinavian accents. Tolkiens' (and subsequently D&D's) elves and dwarves are derived from Norse legend.

To someone from Scotland, the elves don't sound Scottish in the slightest.
Dwarves sound like a Scotty from Star Trek version of Scottish.

"The engines canna cope captain", ie Irish mixed up with some kind of American accent.

I can guarantee you the voice actors were not Scottish!.

Obviously they couldn't have real Scots doing the voices because then no one would understand them.

dwarfs sounds Irish < now thats a real word :D

Firestormalpha 08-13-2003 09:38 PM

Uhh Cristian, in the Rankin & Bass cartoon version of The Hobbit, the Dwarves sound definitively Scottish (thats how you spell it), and the Elves have an obvious Nordic accent. There's no doubt about it. Of course in games etc. I don't know; leave it to the creators to mess up the voiceacting, they'd only be living up to the general trend. Not to say that all in game voicing is horrible; there are many good games. But who can forget the disasterous laughing scene in FFX. That's honestly the only real problem I had with that game.

Cristian 08-14-2003 02:36 AM

omg you can spell that word great and yes... FFX when they laughed < hard word .. that almost made me cry...
