Somehow, the Heart of Winter part of Icewind Dale is stuck on my puter and wont come out---not even using the Add/Remove application in my control panel. I havent been able to play the game in over a month now. I've done the MSN tech live and online deal and they couldn't help me either. Apparently my computer is confused as to the location or even the existance of Heart of Winter so when I go to reinstall the full game or even the IWD part of it, I wind up not being able to play the game. THIS SUCKS!!!!!

Rikard_OHF 07-30-2003 12:06 PM

have you tried taking iwd:how out of your register?

Micah Foehammer 07-30-2003 12:09 PM

Definitely a registry problem. Contact TECH SUPPORT as, IIRC, they DO have a fix for registry issues with IWD/HOW.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

Just for future reference, this should have been posted in the Icewind Dale forums.

RAVINCRAVEN 07-30-2003 12:20 PM

I HAVE removed it from the Registry files---or so I thought. Maybe I didnt remove every vestage of it. And What is IIRC?

Cloudbringer 07-30-2003 12:20 PM

Welcome to Ironworks, Ravincravin!

It sounds like you do need to contact someone in tech support to help with removing the HoW registry entries as everyone mentioned. Good luck!

As Micah said, we do have a separate forum for IWD, but don't worry, things like this can be helpful to other members so we'll leave it here.

I tried the IWDHoW discussion but no one was there and I wanted a response as soon as possible. Havent had my IWD fix in awhile and I'm Jonesin' But----REGISTRY???? I thought I got it all when I did that the first time. Maybe there's something I missed?

Micah Foehammer 07-30-2003 12:36 PM

Actually I was suggesting that you CALL the tech support department. Response is a LOT better and a LOT faster. I know that I have seen this problem on the forums before - but unless you are VERY experienced and comfortable with altering your registry, I would talk to tech support.

BTW, when you uninstalled, did the folder where IWD was located TOTALLY disappear or were there remnants from portraits saved games etc??? You may have to manually delete those as well.

RAVINCRAVEN 07-30-2003 12:49 PM

Thanks Micah Foehammer fro N'yawlins-----I'm not sure about the "remnants" but I WAS using (DALE KEEPER) and I since have deleted it from my puter too. Thanks everyone. Does anybody know the #to Tech support? Is there an online deal for it? By the way---I'm originally from Charleston, SC and that's the way I grew up pronouncing New Orleans--sorry

andrewas 07-30-2003 02:37 PM

Have you tried running the setup directly from the CD? The install program can get confused but the setup might work if run directly.

RAVINCRAVEN 07-30-2003 05:53 PM

.THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS. THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE SOLVED, THANKS TO THE GUYS AT INTERPLAY. IT'S EVEN OUT OF MY ADD/REMOVE LIST NOW. i HAVE THE AUTORUN SETUP, SO LET'S SEE HOW IT WORKS. AGAIN---THANKS

Micah Foehammer 07-30-2003 05:55 PM

IIRC = If I remember correctly

The tech support phone number is 1-(949)-553-6678 M thru Th from 8 am to 5:45 Pm PST and Fri from 8 am to 4:45 pm PST.

The uninstall wizard will NOT uninstall folders or files that you have added within the main IWD installation folder. Things like Dalekeeper, Custom portrait files and folders, etc. If those "remnants" of the game still remain the uninstall routine may leave the original installation folder intact and as a result, the computer will still show a path to the folder. This could confuse the installation wizard when you try to reinstall - making it believe that IWD is STILL installed. (I will concede to a certain amount of uncertainty about this as I am NOT a registry expert). Just something to make sure of.

LOL No problem about N'Awlins .... you get used to it after a while.

EDIT: Well it looks like this additinal information was NOT needed. Glad you got the problem solved. Sorry this last info was late.

This is for Micah Foehammer, aka Lord Ao---THANKS. AND-----The dialect I grew up speaking isn't too different from the New Orleans Dialect/s. I lived in New Orleans in 1972-73, just before the mass building projects started---when the Cafe du Monde was a nice quiet cafe.

Micah Foehammer 08-01-2003 07:27 AM

Ravincraven ..... you're entirely welcome.

Talk about strange but polar opposites - i lived in seattle until '75 then moved down to New Orleans. Almost close enough to your move that we probably passed on the freeways. lol

Cafe du Monde - a quiet cafe???? *sigh* no longer I am afraid
