Okay, last night I left a box of fries on my table next to this computer. The box, obviously not empty, must have attracted Ants over night. I put some Ant Bait/Ant Poison in yjr area where the little invaders are but they keep coming for more! It's almost as if they just won't DIE!! The Ants seem to be coming out of a small crack in the wall. So I have to ask, how do I get rid of them? Do I gas them, Blow the house up, Or what?

You wait for winter.

Rokenn 07-06-2003 01:29 PM

Put cinnamon where ever they are coming in. It's cheap, works great, and smells a lot better then pesticides

Beaumanoir 07-06-2003 01:44 PM

Find their nest and pour a few litres of petrol down it. Then get a match and run like the dickins...

johnny 07-06-2003 01:45 PM

Put little signs everywhere: ants not welcome.

Or buy an aardvark or something. :D

FelixJaeger 07-06-2003 02:07 PM

Krear Sote...not sure if thats how its spelt but it does a good job at killin' ants.

Just try and keep it in the hole where they come out cuz it smells awful and leaves an icky brown stain...

Arvon 07-06-2003 02:08 PM

Where it's legal use Diazone( I'm not sure of the spelling) or Chloridine on the nest and for several feet around it. Don't use around pets till it's dried.

antryg 07-06-2003 02:40 PM

For indoor control use:

(organic)
1)orange oil sprays
2)phrythrinn products
3)boric acid (powder form)
4)diatomaceous earth

(chemical)
1)sevin, either powder or liquid (where allowed by law)
2)ant and roach foggers (contain resmythrin, a synthetic phyrittrin product)
ex. Raid roach fogger

Xen 07-06-2003 03:37 PM

Put stones around the nest, and burn it.

Becuase you put stonese around the fire will not spread.!

Bruce The Aussie 07-06-2003 03:58 PM

or for those budding psycopaths out there...ty napalm, the fun and effective solution :D

Xen 07-06-2003 04:08 PM

Yeah this is a good idea. Effective but a little dangerous don`t you think? :D

Horatio 07-06-2003 04:26 PM

Challenge the queen to a one-on-one fight to the death in The Pit Of Doom. If you defeat her, you will become leader of the hoarde and the ants will do your bidding until a new challenger show themselves.

Note: The Pit Of Doom is available at all good pest-control stores. Buy now and you recieve the Anti-Termite Invasion Kit - Reclaim your honour as you're put against the Termite Tribe in a week long Battle Royale

Zero Alpha 07-06-2003 04:51 PM

'Two men enter, one man leaves' :D

challenge her to the pit of doom and when she enters fill it with napalm :D

that'll get rid of them :D

You can also pour boiling water in their nest. That's pretty effective, and a very cheap thing to do.

slicer15 07-06-2003 05:03 PM

I don't believe some people! Discussing how to kill small, innocent, harmless creatures...what about the ants feelings, huh? How would you like it if you were minding your own business when suddenly your home gets napalmed, or fills with boiling water?? :D

Instead of those friggin bills every month, i'd rather have someone pouring a can of boiling water through my mailbox. :D

Bruce The Aussie 07-06-2003 05:48 PM

actually...i forgot...napalm should only be used for its original purpose.....gardening.....you have a bush you wanna trim? napalm it.....annoying tree blocking the sun to your window? napalm it.....always handy to have some around.....aslo be nice to the ants....for when they're mutated by radiation and giant, like in so many 50's movies....you'll be glad

Kakero 07-06-2003 05:51 PM

burn them using newspaper. and put kerosine in the nest so that all will be killed. after that put green grass and burn it so that it will create smoke to kill the survivors. yeah, total anhilation!

SecretMaster 07-06-2003 06:51 PM

Dude, there only ants. I could understand biting ants, but these things are harmless. And good luck finding their main nest, ants usually make nests underground or in house foundations, so unless you want ur house blown into pieces, i suggest waiting it out. Or to quarantine the ants, just put food blocking the hole.

BTW, slicer, ants don't feel pain. The joy of no nerves.

Bungleau 07-06-2003 09:25 PM

Ants.... Best approach I've used is ant baits. Put the little poison pills down where they congregate, and they'll eventually eat it up and take it home. Took about three days last time...

Good news is ya said ya saw where they were coming in from. Put one of the baits right at that spot, and they'll eat it up.

Two side notes: you can get commercial ant baits which are better than the stuff you buy in stores. Try and get some of that if you can. Also, your fries left out overnight were not what attracted them. They were already there, and they just came over for the meal.

ElricMorlockin 07-07-2003 07:35 AM

Most "pest" insects breath through their feet. Try some baking powder it works real well.

Well, that makes me feel a lot better. :D

Yeah, I was kind of kidding, but I see what you mean. I personally like ants, I'm fascinated by the way they build their home, the organised work force etc. Yes, I like bees too. :D

Son of Osiris 07-07-2003 09:13 AM

Was anyone actually reading it? I said they're coming out of a crack in the WALL. I find it hard to put bait on the wall.

Cerek the Barbaric 07-07-2003 09:39 AM

Boric acid (liquid form) has worked best for me. When we first bought our house, we would have an annual invasion of ants as soon as warm weather hit. I placed a drop or two of boric acid on a small piece of cardboard and set these homemade traps out in several locations throughout the house (under cabinets, behind appliances, etc). It is very effective, but also very toxic. I always wear a pair of rubber gloves when handling it and we keep it sealed in a little plastic bag when it isn't being used.

I wouldn't recommend it if you have small children and I absolutely would not recommend it if you have indoor pets of your own. It's like anti-freeze, it smells sweet, but will be fatal if they lick it.

After about 3 years, I think we finally killed off the queen and the entire nest...I haven't seen ANY ants in the last 2-3 years..and they use to almost swarm through the house.

You don't have to put the bait inside the wall..they came out for the fries, they will come out for the bait too. Just put it in several locations (especially the kitchen, but not near food). Just because you haven't seen them there yet doesn't mean they aren't visiting. ;)

Never heard of trying cinammon or baking soda, but that would definitely be a safer alternative if you have kids or pets that you don't want bothering the stuff.

If all else fails, call an exterminator. Don't know what the prices would be in your area, but I had them do a "general purpose" extermination on my house 2 years ago and it only cost $70.

Good luck, Whackmeister! May the ants fall like wheat before your onslaught.

Since I read it and gave several serious replies of products to use inside the home I would just ask: Is anyone reading the answers?
I read it too, and I'll admit that I assumed the crack was near the floor. If it's higher up, you can also try an ant powder puffed into the crack. Did that with an ant problem around our kitchen windows.

Like was said, put the baits down and they'll find 'em. Just put 'em close to where the ants are, and they'll soon blaze a trail there.

You might also look for things on the other side of the wall to get an idea of where they're coming from. Check floors, ceilings, other walls.... somewhere, they're getting in and staying in. The closer you get to the actual nest, the quicker the problem goes away.

Xen 07-08-2003 03:34 PM

It is the same thing with the coachroches(sp?). When you found one,you know/found all/whole colony(!)of them!

Have you tried the cinnamon? Everytime I have had ants coming in the house cinnamon has fixed it. I even used it to get a nest to move by putting it on the ant hole itself.

Actually, if you see exactly where they are coming from, you could call an exterminator. I'm dealing with an ants infestation right now and my landlord had the whole apartment treated (cost him about $350 CDN for 10 rooms and it's garanteed for 3 months). In your case, you could only have 1 room treated.
