Yikes! I keep losing my mage to this spell.

Is there any way to avoid its affects?

I'm not shure...however there is an item that grants you 50 % immunity to that one, and others. It is only ONE item that I know of, and you can get it from

Trademeet after you solve the djini quest. You can purchase the belt from a merchant...

hhhmmm, i havent played in ages with bg2 (just visiting the forum) but how bout the lvl 9 spell "spell trap"?? or a potion/spell that gives your magic immunity...

anything with magic resistance will help make the save vs that spell, the belt you are talking about wasnt specifically deigned to prevent horrod writing it just lists that as an example of the magic that the belt is resistant to.

Does spelltrap prevent 'global'spells like the horrid wilting?

Actually, it's the Staff of the Magi that has 1/day Spell Trap, not the Staff of Power.

1) Spell Immunity: Necromancy
2) Protection from Magical Energy

When I soloed BG2 with my sorcerer (no Throne of Bhaal installed, didn't exist back then ;) ), he was wearing a cloak of mirroring... All the Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wiltings were mirrored back to the caster. And there was a quest somewhere (the human flesh armor one IIRC) when 3 or 4 mages teleport in and all start throwing Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting at you... Shortest. Battle. Ever. ;)

Pity Cloak of Mirroring was changed in ToB, though... It was a wee bit too powerful. ;)

Remember the first person you spoke to when you arrived in "fish people (Sahuagin)" City? The High Priestess? She sends you to the King. After you speak with the King, go back to where you spoke to the Priestess and travel east . You will encounter various groups of Sahuagin fighting each other. One of the King's troopers is wearing it.

Better even, you'll find the priestess near the "shark teeth bridge" in the middle of the map somewhere... You can't miss her, as she has some sort of globe around her (cloak of mirroring effect). [img]smile.gif[/img]
