<font color="lightblue">I have decided to get my right to cast magic in the city by fighting the cowls a few times, and need a little help... i`m up to the "highest members of their order", and finally the battle is difficult. Only problem being that it is TOO difficult.
My party is Me (Jester level 12) Jaheira (F/D 9/12) Edwin (11- maybe 12...) Yoshimo (12) and Keldorn (10).

My general tactic sofar has been insect plague as soon as the Cowled Enforcer appears, then melee them.
But these guys break the rules.

One of them has disintegrate in a contingency.

What should I do to 1) Avoid being disintegrated, and 2) Kill the highest members of their order ?? </font>

Illumina Drathiran'ar 07-11-2002 09:01 PM

I forget what level you get Power Word: Kill, but the Enforcer that teleports in initially has more than 60 HP.. What I usually do is have a few casters cast Magic Missile and then have someone else cast PWK... But you only have two magic users. So I would advise having Edwin memorize PWK (if he can.. if not, oh well) and have your Jester cast a spell like Magic Missile, or some other spell with a short casting time.. Perhaps Flame Arrow.. But you should also have Jahiera and Yoshi attack the wizard with daggers (They have good speed factors) and eat away at the Coweled guy's HP... I believe that he has 67 HP, but I'm not sure.. But once he's lost eight HP, fire away with Power Word: Kill. Good luck and have fun!
Why is a Harper telling you how to kill someone just doing their job? Easy, we hate Cowled Wizards.

Harkoliar 07-12-2002 01:56 AM

i dont think you still have the spell abi-dazim horrid writing?? well... to be cheezzy try putting lots of traps where you think they will appear.. hehe... or it you want. lvl up some more before you face them. skeleton warriors (lvl 14 not the ordinary ones) with great magic resistance can help you clobber them.

*note* rumor has it that if you beat thier best cowled wizards, they wont appear and attack you anymore

Dundee Slaytern 07-12-2002 07:13 AM

Guys, he is unable to cast most of the spells you listed out. Read his party members' level carefully.

Oh, and BTW LenneonCook - putting disintegrate in a contingency is not cheating - any mage or bard whose level is 18 or higher can put level six spells in a contingency - including disintegrate.

<font color="lightblue">According to the spell description, it can`t be an offensive spell, or targeted at anyone but the caster  </font>

I think you should level up a bit or buy a license before going against these guys. One of them (Zallanora?) is a level 30 conjurer. Even a control Q'd Elminster almost died taking on her!

LennonCook 07-12-2002 10:50 PM

<font color="lightblue">Ok, that didn`t work :(

I killed all but "Zidane", and was killed quickly because of his (her ??) sneaky spell combination:
Time Stop
Gate
Dimension Door

I had no time to protect my party from evil, and was practically dead anyway... I only had one thing I could think of left: Magic Missle... didn`t even scratch the pit fiend :(

Worst of all, I didn`t save before I fought </font>

<font color="lightblue">I did it I did it!! And what finally worked was to summon them with a Fire Shield: Red, pause as soon as the first Enforcer D-Doored in, and have Iffnosi (my Jester ;) ) and Edwin cast fireball at the centre of the group, and have Jaheira fire Insect Plague at the CE... then I got rid of Zanowhatever... incidentaly, Zidane who I had trouble with once hasn`t even shown up in the group since... must have been a bug or something, I guess... </font>

LennonCook 07-13-2002 03:20 AM

<font color="lightblue">Ok,to save a little space I`ll post my next problem in the same thread.

It involves one realy hard to spell name that starts with T and has an apostrope somewhere in the middle.

Yes, it`s the Shadow Dragon.

Yes, I need help beating it :D

Character Level: Jester 14, Yoshimo 14, Keldorn 12, Edwin 12, and Jaheira 10/12 (f/d).
Help ;) </font>

<font color="gold">EDIT: Also, where can I find the armour that grants bonuses to Theiving Skills ?? It`s Shadow Armour, or something; and I can`t remember where to find it :( </font>

<font color="lightblue">Planning for Yoshimo, actually ;)
Only thing is, i`ve already killed Maevar, and I didn`t get it then... </font>

Well, that's bizarre. Mae'Var has always had the Shadow Armor in my game.....still, that's pretty much irrelevant, as you are VERY close to an armor that's better than the Shadow Armor, in all respects.

<font color="lightblue">Made from the Shadow Dragons Scales, I guess ?? </font>

Dundee Slaytern 07-14-2002 01:22 AM

Hmmmm... clarification in this thread I must make.

You can put offensive spells in a Chain Contingency. You can also target an enemy with Chain Contingency. It is a level 9 spell.

Cast some elemental summoning spells as far away from the dragon as possible.

Cast magic resistance with Jaheira then target it with magic missiles,
insect plague, acid arrows, call lightning (and other offensive spells, but I think these are the best)while your fighters and summons (hasted?) attack and distract her.

LennonCook 07-14-2002 05:05 AM

<font color="lightblue">Ok, it seems I solved both my problems in the time from my last post in this thread, and about 15 minutes before this one...
I found the Shadow Armour (and solved a little problem I was having whereby Renal Bloodscalp had "Nothing to say to me"), by going back down to MaeVar`s Guildhall... I hadn`t killed him yet... i`d cleared out the entire building, bar what I needed to.
Then I decided to have another crack at the Dragon, this time using something I found with this fight... I went to the Temple Ruins, new ability ready, rested to remove the fatigue, and went up to the Dragon.
Jahiera: Magic Resistance
Iffnosi: Lower Resistance
Dragon now at 0% magic resistance, only problem being that it`s awake.
Everyone runs, trying to get out of the AOE of the Wing Bufffet... they *almost* make it... WB knowcks 3 uncontious, and everyone is damamged slightly and blown into the corner.
Edwin dies, and get`s resurected with the rod I`ve been carrying for just this type of incident.
Now I use the ability i`ve been saving since Mae`var.

Iffnosi: Casts feeblemind: Thaxxl'sillia (or whatever ;) )
Dragon now can`t cast any spells, or attack me; because it`s completely mindless.
So I start meleeing it.
Then I speed it up a bit...
Jaheira: Insect Plague.

Simple tactic, could have done it a few levels ago (having Edwin rather than my Jester memorise the feeblemind), took a while; but I just killed my first dragon.

Now using my newfound tactic, onto bigger and apparently easier goals...

<font color="lightblue">Ok, same party as above; in Firkraag`s dungeon... just done Samia`s quest (the King Strohm one...); and need help with the monsters just below there... the ones between where you meat Samia, and the area with the well.
I can kill them all easily, bar one: A greater wolfwere.
I can get it down as far as "Badly Injured", but it regenerates compltetelty before I can even swing my weapon.
How on earth am I meant to beat this thing ??</font>

Morgeruat 07-14-2002 08:57 AM

greater werewolves completely regen if you don't do their hp's in damage to them in one round (64) making them extremely hard if you don't have extremely melee heavy characters with bad@$$ weapons (incidentally i never had any problems with the regen bg others have reported, if it is the regen bug go to baldurdash for the patch) or use disintegrate/flesh to stone, cone of cold/wand of frost and risk the loss of loot

Dundee Slaytern 07-14-2002 09:06 AM

Greater Werewolves do not drop loot. Feel free to turn them into dust/ice/stone.

LennonCook 07-15-2002 01:31 AM

<font color="lightblue">Ok, as predicted, Firkraag didn`t know what hit him... especially not after the feeblemind :D

Next problem: Where is the nether scroll ??
I`m in the lower tombs, in the room where lots of undead attact me, and I can`t find anything like it. I have absolutely cleared it out, and no nether scroll. :( </font>

LennonCook 07-15-2002 06:33 AM

<font color="lightblue">Never mind, I`ve found the scroll... how long should it be until Edwin turns into Edwina ?? </font>

Illumina Drathiran'ar 07-15-2002 11:12 PM

I would say max... MAX... Five hours of our time and/or a few days in the game. Pause it and leave it on overnight... if you sleep. (I know that when I was still playing it for the first time, and the second and third times as well, I didn't sleep much.)
Enjoy the dialogue, it's one of the funniest sidequests in the game IMO!
