What's with all the damn angry faces people?? http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon8.gif <--- This is the guy I'm talking about. There must be at least four of them at the top of the first page.... no wait make that five... :D

While we're on the subject anyway, I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering why MagiK invariably uses a " " as his topic icon. Enlighten us M! Y'know it does look slightly petulant... and almost but not quite as annoying as Deathkiller's http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon28.gif

;)

Post split in half because of restrictions on smileys, of all things...

Melusine 05-19-2003 09:18 AM

So here's the rest....

More observations on iconic practises

I've noticed that Moiraine (when she was still a member :( ) used the topic icons that aren't available in the graphics library as normal smileys, this one for instance. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon10.gif

Also, some people always use the http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon2.gif icon even if they have nothing important to say. I have been known to do this myself actually :D

Melusine 05-19-2003 09:19 AM

Personally, I find these quite annoying: http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon33.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon35.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon38.gif so I never use them.

Should only the mods be allowed to use http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon21.gif and http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon40.gif?

And where did Yorick's favourite go? The one that goes "I'm a boy I'm a boy I'm a boy"

Sorry for the multiple posts, blame smiley restrictions.
If you're annoyed by the triviality of this post, blame me though.
If you're bored like me, tell us your own iconic habits or observations on the habits of others.

Hey Melusine I thought it would be evient why I use the tongue thingie I assume it indicates a certain level of good humor, and silliness and only use it when I mean my post to convey such an attitude....I do however some times and forget to change it. But usually if you see the tongue smiley Im in a humorous mood and don't expect to be taken too seriously. If however I am just dealing in flat facts and no humor intended I use the 1st icon..the little page thingy. I use the other smileys to denote the proper emmotional state that the post is written in

Hope that clears it up a bit (short form...it is the kind fo mood Im in when writeng the post)

Cristian 05-19-2003 09:32 AM

I wonder how many people associate the icon with silliness and good humour, though. The one I'm using now seems more suited to the purpose. I thought most people thought of it as the sarcasm smiley. I thought you were just a very sarcastic person. ;)

MagiK 05-19-2003 09:48 AM

Hmmm you make a good point there Mel...while I do have a goodly measure of sarcasm in me...mostly Im in a happy funny mood and like to make people laugh (I do fairly well at it too).....usually...I really do not mean to be taken sarcasticly in the majority of my posts...

How about it? folks? does my tongue sticking out smiley make you think I am trying to be sarcastic?

Davros 05-19-2003 09:49 AM

Gee MagiK - when I am posting in fun and don;t expect to be taken too seriosly, I use this one.

Since you've been using the tongue-smiley quite often in debates of a political nature, I'll keep that in mind.

Legolas 05-19-2003 09:50 AM

It most definately does, Magik. How can we take anything you say in a debate seriously with such a mocking face at the top of your posts?

Talthyr Malkaviel 05-19-2003 09:54 AM

I think that this topic smilie ^ is severely under-used and not appreciated.
Why, I can't recall the last time it was used- it saddens me.

Sometimes I mean things in a good humor even when they are serious...don't you ever do that? Maybe it is my German half that brings out the stern inhumorous side of me...while my Polish side lightens me up a bit. :D

MagiK 05-19-2003 10:18 AM

Well if you see the tongue in an inappropriate post, Im sure I will be reminded

I suppose you conveniently missed the winking smilie at the top of my post as well?

Bahamut 05-19-2003 10:26 AM

you hit it there Mel!!! DK's smiley ticked me off the first time! I thought he was even flame baiting me the first time i saw it... bloody annoying! hehehe :D

Night Stalker 05-19-2003 10:47 AM

A little bored are we Mel?

I must agree though .... there seems to be an over-abundance of angry icons today. I don't see why. Today is such a lovely spring day! Thursday will be much better though! ;)

I gotta agree with Magik when I interpret as being light hearted and cheeky, cause I use it that way. Where as something like http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-022.gif I would interpret as insolent or petulant - possibly cheeky depending on context.

Ah well ..... http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-022.gif :D

FelixJaeger 05-19-2003 01:13 PM

I'm telling you...

mysticelt 05-19-2003 02:26 PM

http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/_950/creator.gifokay - I am having trouble keeping track of the smiley etiquitte. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/k/dontknow.gif http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/k/smileybreasts.gif

Attalus 05-19-2003 02:43 PM

I use this one just because it is annoying, though, evidently not as annoying as the chartreuse, sidelong, drooling one, that TL called me on. to me is defiant and cheeky, is humourous, sort of like an elbow-poke in the ribs. Oh, and I use this one to be annoying, too: :D

Luvian 05-19-2003 03:02 PM

I see only 3 "mad" smilies, but they all seem to have a different mood:

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon11.gif This one seem more shocked than angry

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon8.gif This one seem a little pouty.

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon17.gif Dont get close to that one...

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon29.gif This is an halloween smilies.

Personally, as long as I have my http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon2.gif, I am happy.
