Try the area just to the east of Beregost, at the Castle. It's called the High Hedge. There is a contankerous wizard there that will sell the claw of Kazgroth to you. You have to talk to him with persistance. At least I think that is where it's at. What do you use it for? Doesn't it do damage to you as well as the monster your fighting?

As far as the Golden pants go, you won't do anythng with them until you get the Throne of Bhaal. The golden pants, along with other items you find in Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal can be used together to make something. It is the hardest item to acquire in the entire trilogy of games, for the fact that the three pieces are within the three games.
When you get SoA, make sure your lead char. has them in his inventory, then you will have them carried over into the next game, hidden in the first area you are in.

You combine the Gold Pants with some Silver Pants you find in Shadows of Amn, and Bronze Pants you find in Throne of Bhaal to make a special armor called the Big Metal Unit.
It is like an exo-skeleton suit of machinery that a certain man in a certain town can build for you.
You get cannons with it as well as have the basic abilities of a Juggernaut Golem.

If you talk to the Nobleman, then he assumes that you are the cleaning service and he gives you his Golden Pantaloons to clean. You have a choice of replies--choose the one that says something along the lines of "Yessir! Pantaloons pressed and ready by tomorrow morning or breakfast is free sir!" and he hands you his pants.

Talk to him again (at any time, even immediately after he gives you the pants) and you'll get an amusing reply from him and a small (very small) amount of XP. If you have a high enough Charisma and/or Rep, you may even get a tip. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif

Of course, if you stole the Pants from the nobleman instead of recieving them from him, I don't know if this would work. Try to talk to him anyways.

Question about the Golden Pantaloons & the Big Metal Unit: since you lose *all* your items at the beginning of Baldur's Gate II anyways when you're in prison, would it not matter if you sold the Pants/ditched them/gave the Pantaloons back to the Nobleman/whatever? Where do you get the chance to pick up the Golden Pantaloons again in BGII?

Have any of you ever played BGII to find out? Your main char. does not lose all of the items that he has when entering BGII. They are hidden like I said within the first dungeon that you find yourself in. I can tell you where if that is what you want. There is a man in Throne of Bhaal that asked me for those above mentioned items, and since I was stupid enough not to recognize their use in the past, I did not have them equipped in my inventory. I had to cheat them back in, though I have been talking to some people who did keep them, and they are enjoying the benefits thereof without having to cheat. All that I said was true, and Ertai, Memnoch, and Ziroc (the Moderators on the board) will testify to that.

I hope they would ban me from the board if I am lying.

Little Dragon asked me what they did...and I told him. If any of you still need proof, stroll on over to Thone of Bhaal discusion board, and do a search for the key words. You will see how more players than I am enjoying this new armor.

I still dont have Throne of Bhaal so i dont know about that thing. About the golden pantaloons and their use in BG1:
SPOILER
-
-
-
-
-
- You can:
a.- Identify them and give them back to the nobleman to get some xp
b.- Keep them. Later, in Baldurs Gate city, in the 2nd floor of the Splurging Sturgeon there is a guy who has some silly conversation (talking about the "trade", the dialogue has some very weird lines). If you talk to him and you dont have the pantaloons, nothing will happen. If you have them, heŽll take them and leave. You dont get any xp, its just a silly "quest" i think. But now that you mention that stuff Larry, i wonder if giving the pantaloons to this guy will have any effect on that armor thing http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/conf.gif

This is how I found out that it was real.
I am in a city called Amkethran. I walked up to the North East side of town, and entered a shop where a dude was selling every type of magic scroll invented. There was a dwarf in that same room. I talked to him, and he was reluctant to tell me his profession, telling me that I would make fun of it. I told him to please tell me, and he said he made special armor. He also did work with machinery, but I probably did not care about such a thing. I told him, "Will you please make me some armor?". He said that he needed to look through my stuff. Not having what he needed, I was told to leave him alone. I clicked on the machine behind him, and it's description mentioned that it looked like a big device that mended fabric together, and that there was some fabric stuck in the gears at that moment. I broke out my cheat book that I bought with my purchase of ToB just so I could look up wierd things like this. It said that I would find the Bronze pants in "http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif", and together with the previous two that I should have, I could make an increadible suit of armor, that brought me abilities of a juggernaut Golem. (Your char. on screen even has the appearnace of a golem. It is fun!http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
Anyway, my cheat book was nice enough to give us the cheat code to use for us crazy people that did not hold onto that stuff, previously mentioned. I typed it in, and now it is in my inventory. There are three different cannons that come with the suit, but I will not go any farther in explaining details.
http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
Eventually, this post will be lost to time, and newcomers will still be asking what they should do with those pants. I hope to convince them easier than you guys. It is the most difficult item to acquire in the game, but very fun to use. I don't use it often, because it is so strong. But ocasionally, I need it to help get me through a certain area.
I hope that none of you are angry at me for posting this, because it is definately the best kept secret in the game. I mean, even I did not keep those pants like I should have, and I carried them around to almost the very end of the game, wondering what to do with them, and finally threw them away when I got to Durlag's Tower to make room for other things.

To Larry: I played BGII of course http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif but admittedly not with an imported character, just a wholly created PC. I started out with no items whatever, so I assumed that an import would as well. Guess I was wrong on that account. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

(::now wondering if the little items that I picked up in the dungeon (i.e. Longsword +1 etc) would be replaced by my old items...:http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

And the Big Metal Unit thing does exist, and its one heck of an amusing (and powerful! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif) Easter Egg. Except they're so big they can;t fit through some doors with the armour on... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...les/tongue.gif

Yeah, there has to be a negative to using it, maybe to give balance to such a strong thing.

You get it from High hedge, as some one already said. I used them ALL of BG1. From Chapter 2 to the end of the game. It does do some bad things but overall good.

1. It makes you blurred and harder to hit
2. It makes your character look really cool! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
3. It makes loads of saving throws betta!
4. More Stuff

Bad Stuff
1. It counts as a cursed item so u cant get it off without that spell
2. -2 to your Constitution (I still managed to rack up 75 hp by the end http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif)
3. It knackers in ure save vs death spell... (or is it save vs breath?... Any way, it puts all your other saves UP)
4. Its Purrty Expensive

Hope This Helps!

btw, can any one help me shrink this pic 4 my sig?

OK. Going back to the Claw of Kazgaroth, it is sold by Thalantyr in High Hedge. The damage you are thinking of is probably the Horn of Kazgaroth. The Claw works as a cursed item in that you need a remove curse spell to take it off, but in my opinion it is one of the most underrated items in the game. It gives a +1 bonus to AC, +4 vs any missile attacks and +3 to all saves except for death magic, which is -4, and creates a -2 penalty to constitution. In the case of a non-fighter main character, if you start out with a con of 16 you can effectively finish the game with a con of 17, and with the Claw that is lowered to 15, meaning that you are only sacrificing 1 HP per level (which you get back as soon as the Claw is removed) and a few points on your paralyzation/poison/death magic save in return for all ofthe above bonuses, and unlike other magical protections, you can wear it with magical armor or rings of protection...

Yes it really does create the Big Metal Unit. The BMU has a base AC of -10 and makes you look like an iron golem (you wont fit on small staircases, trust me) I have a ranger that i took through the entire series. It counts as armor, so your mage spells will be disabled. I found that having it on was entirely useless. There are +5/+6 (yes +6 I'm serious) items in Throne of Bhaal. While the Fists attack you use count as only +2. Trust me there are a LOT of creatures you need +3 for. Theres a Cannon w/ it that has Napalm, Frag Grenades, and Pulse ammo for it. It counts as a two handed weapon. All of the ammo does really crappy damage. Napalm is agnazars scorcher, frag is a lvl one skull trap, and the pulse does 1d6 electrical i beleive.

Also, the item is, i beleive, an item for Evil parties who have gone through the entire series. I say this because obviously walking off with someones pants is neither lawful, nor good. The pair you get from SoA requires a totally evil act that lowers your rep. The third pair is rather humorous, however it would a gross act of pride and stupidity to really do what you have to. If you want to know more about the Quests themselves there are posts all over the SoA and ToB forums.

Awww geez, not another chaotic neutral? Where do these people come from anyway?
