This is an honest question, for I have a strange red welt on my leg that drains clear fluid and has a whits crusty scab, and its red all the way around it and is swollen and really hurts

Sir Goulum 05-13-2003 06:26 PM

Uh...I seem to remember someone having a spider bite before, in my class...I think that it was a red welt, but nothing more. If your really concerned, Stormy, why don't you see a doctor about it?

Reeka 05-13-2003 06:27 PM

And why do you automatically think it could be a spider bite and not something else? Do you have pets? Have you been in any woods lately? Have you been outside lately? There are worse things than a spider that can bite you. More information is needed. How long have you been aware of the bite? Do you know when you got it? Any other symptoms? Headache? Fever? Chills?

Sir Kenyth 05-13-2003 06:55 PM

A spider bite will be a sore red bump with two tiny perforations next to each other in the center (two fangs). Most U.S. species spider bites go away with no problems. It sounds like you have an infected pore, hair follicle, cyst, etc. or infected bug bite. In either case, dress it using an antibiotic ointment and watch closely for signs of necrosis when changing the dressing. Necrosis is dying tissue in or around the infected area. That would mean either a serious infection or Brown Recluse bite. Both are highly unlikely.

But don't worry, those kind of spiders only live in the Netherlands. :D

TheCrimsomBlade 05-13-2003 08:42 PM

Stormy that sounds like a Black Widow spider bite Go to the emergency room as soon as possiable and the brown recluse is in the states sometimes called the Fiddle back spider or the violin spider because they have a violin shaped mark on their head area they are very small and yes they are all over the mid west and the south they don't normally kill adults but they can kill childern they are very poisonous and the bite will cause the wound to drain clear fluid and can cause a white crusty scab to form.
Scientific name "Loxosceles Reclusa"

Hmmm I was just about to say that there are over 30,000 species of spider IIRC and I'm guessing they have different bites - define "spider bite" *shrugs*
If CrimsonButterKnife is right then you'd better get it checked out!

Stormymystic 05-13-2003 09:13 PM

I noticed it yesterday, and had been vomiting yesterday morning, and have been extremly tired the past 3 days, yes i was out side all day sunday, where i was was close to woods, the place is now nomb, my father looked at it when he came over cuz we lost our power and needed candles, said it kinda looked like it might just be a cyst and i only see one huge hole in the center, and yes i have a cat and dog

How big was the spider? I'd guess around 300lbs?

johnny 05-13-2003 09:48 PM

I'm sorry, it wasn't a spider. It was a shark, i always mix those two up.

I wonder what a spider-shark bite would look like... or heck, even what a spider-shark would look like...

<span style="color: lightblue">One whole means it's probably a mozzie bite, bee sting, or something similar. But, go to your GP... no such thing as "too careful". ;)

Dreamer128 05-14-2003 04:43 AM

That sounds pretty serious. Why don't you go and see a doctor?

Stormymystic 05-14-2003 04:48 AM

:( I have no money nor Insurance, I wll try and find one that will do billing

Donut 05-14-2003 05:37 AM

Sounds to me like it needs amputation. Do you own a chainsaw?

;)

GokuZool 05-14-2003 06:19 AM

Stormy, it sounds like you should visit a doctor to get that leg checked!

I hope you're ok

Hmmm I'm not sure how the American Health care system works....here in the UK you'd get that checked for free under the NHS.

If you are poor you don't pay much tax, or any if you don't have income and therefore for those people the NHS is paid for by others' taxes and therefore it's free. That's how I understand it anyway.

The vomiting definitely sounds like you have some type of poison in your system. Go get it checked out as it does not seem like the bite and vomiting are a coincidence. Don't worry to much as most insect, and spider bites are generally not lethal. Just be thankful that the poisonous ones are usually very small.

 why the hell does America spend more time crying about taxes and not enough time dealing with issues like these? C'mon America, Surely you can afford free doctor consultations and hospital emergency treatment. What is more important people or money?

Sorry about the rant Stormy. I hope you are all right. Please do go to the doctor ASAP. Coming from Australia you learn not to ignore "little bites" they can become very serious, very quick.

The Ornery One 05-14-2003 11:48 PM

If it's not a spider bite it could be from a tick that got scratched off before you saw it. I'm slightly allergic to both and the bite will turn a large red area with a little blister in the middle. I usually have a fever in the area of the bite and will feel nauseous for several days. Taking regular allergy medicine while using antibiotics on the bite usually makes enough of a difference that I don't need to go to a doctor, but if it doesn't get any better in a few days or if you get a high fever and keep feeling sick go to a doctor.

</font>
In America? Money. The public have, to the best of my knowledge, been asked many times whether they want a publically-funded national health system. They don't.

The ironic thing is, I read a study once that said the cost to the taxpayer of running an NHS would be 1/3 of the taxes they pay to support medical insurance. Go figure.

Stormymystic 05-15-2003 12:50 AM

well, it is getting better, i am not feeling sick anymore and the swelling is gone, but i think it might be something like an alergic rash that got infected, be cause now i have more bump on my arms that itch...and no i am not allergic to poison oak or ivy, hmm might be the dog, that is when i started itching alot was when we got him, but i can not get rid of him because my baby girl loves him to much :( she calls him gogo instead of jojo and anytime she does not see him she ask where gogo? she is only 1 1/2 but she knows things, lol
anywho i guess i can find some allergy meds and deal with it, i have learned to live with my cat...err umm my daughters cat he sleeps with both of them at there feet, he never has clawed them or got close to his face, he is like a guardian, he loves them, but the dog...grrrr i am ready to give him to a butcher...lol
