A little more detail is required. System specs?

Could be a number of things, but then again I've never had that kind of problem. Could be you don't have enough space on your hard-drive, it's bugged or the file is corrupted, and so forth.
Try checking how much space you have on your hard-drive and see if it has enough space to support the movie. Also try scanning it with an anti-virus program to see if it is corrupted or bugged (preferably Nortons). |

What critical error is it giving you? What OS are you using? How much free HD space do you have? |
Windows XP
and at the time of trying to install the mem on HD was 89%looking looking up error logs right now |
XP, hmmmm. Try brousing as few websites to find a game patch because Xp does have problems with games, ranging from lag to bottom out crashing. Just make sure you have enough room for the game other-wise you'll be in one laggy arse hell

Okay, first thing you need to do.
Go to Start-->Control Panel-->System and select the Advanced tab. Select the Start up and Recovery settings and uncheck the box Automatically restart. This will let you see which error it's coughing up. Right down everything pertaining to the error. It's probably a stop code of some sort, with a very long number with an "X" in it. Run that error code through a decent search engine or through the MS Knowledge Base and it should tell you exactly what the problem is. |

Stormy, I would really advise you to get Norton's Anti-Virus because it can do wonders for a computer. If you have a defragmentation program on your computer, be sure to use it. In case you don't know, defragmentation is a program that takes loose bits of data and information that results from deleting files or such to storing files, and it puts them back in the right place. At 69%, it's looking bad, so you may want to use it.

Sorry Stormy but you've got me stumped, I'm still learning about Pc's from my dad but I'm out of ideas on this.

thanks anyway
the log files were to old, they were erased by the computer o well |
Hmmmm..... curiouser and curiouser...
A couple of things: 1. You said your HD is 69% full, but not how big it is. Do you have enough free space? 2. You can free up some free space by tweaking IE settings. One of the standard settings, browser cache in IE, decides how much hard drive space to reserve for your browser's cache -- copies of things you've looked at. The default is 10%, which is astronomical. I get by quite happily at 1-2%, which makes about 100MB on this machine. Tweak it down, and then clear your history in IE. You may be amazed at how much space comes back. 3. Is LotR designed for XP? You can check the Tech Tips thread on the W&W forum for suggestions on making W&W work under XP. Some of those tips may apply to you, especially the "win 98 compatibility" one. 'Course, they may not apply until you can finally load it... Let us know... |
ok my browser is not ie,but it uses 340 MB is hat to much?
|
Well stormymystic this is a similar problem to the one I have got. I just replaced my cd with a new one, and now the new one will not work at all. See my cd installation thread:(
So if you find the answer let us know Does your cd play Audio ok? wonder if it is a virus????? |
Official support site lists the 1.1 patch in its PC section, and thats it. Bloody poor if you ask me. Wont help you if you cant get the game installed.
Without more information I cant suggest anything specific, but: 1) Unless you got ripped when you bought your machine, you should have at least a 20Gb harddrive, which equates to 6Gb left. Ample. 2) 128Mb RAM is on the low side for windows XP. RAM is cheap and easy to fit though, just make sure you get the right type. System n=manual should help you there. 3) A dirty/scratched CD or a dirty CDROM lens can cause weird errors, but it would take a very badly written installer for it to fail this messily under winXP. Might be worth cleaning the CD and putting a lens cleaner into the CDROM drive. You can pick those up for about a fiver. 4) When you get the serious error recovery, hit the details button and see if you cant find anything that looks useful. Well, even strings of HEX could help. Post em up here. |
