I haven't done any for a bit so I'd like to ask whet the hell do the words to your National Anthem mean? Was someone on drugs when he penned this?

Australians all own ostriches
Four minus one is three.
With olden royals, we’re fair and loyal,
Our home is dirt by sea.
I learned to bounce on nature strips
In booties stitched with care.
In mystery’s haze, let’s harvest maize
And plant azaleas there.
Enjoy full trains and let us in
And dance Australia yeah!

You should have stuck with the one about YOUR Queen!

Davros 04-09-2003 09:34 AM

Hmm - been a while since we heard our favourite little ditty - is there anything your guys and gals would like to take our guys and gals on with.

I am guessing that your cricket team versus our Women's cricket team might be an interesting series ;)

Maybe a rematch at football Mwahahahahhahahaha :D :D :D

Well now that you've got your automatic qualification for the World Cup we might meet again.

Night Stalker 04-09-2003 12:22 PM

*retreats from a certain other area of IW* - This looks lighthearted enough!

I haven't heard the Oz anthem, but if it's like the Canadian or British - SLEEPERS!

You need something more like ours - envigorating, thrilling ........ and almost IMPOSSIBLE to play or sing!

Just what the hell is a "donserly light" anyway?

Save your bashing...and read this *ahem*

Gibraltar, Gibraltar, the rock on which I stand.

May you be forever free, Gibraltar, my own land.

Mighty pillar, rock of splendour, guardian of the sea.

Port of hope in times of need, rich in history.

Gibraltar, Gibraltar, the rock on which I stand.

May you be forever free, Gibraltar, my own land.

God give grace to this our homeland, help us to live as one.

Strong in freedom, truth and justice, let this be our song;

Gibraltar, Gibraltar, the rock on which I stand.

May you be forever free, Gibraltar! Gibraltar! my own land

There you have it, the result of a competition held not too long ago...God how I hate that anthem :D The tune is something like "Ave Maria" but a faster beat. Hard to describe but it hurts my ears.

I like that anthem Donut :D

may I reccommend this site-

Geesh, you would have thought the rest of the world has heard the REAL Aussie anthem played so often at sporting events over the past few years that they would know that the Donut version is fake. Just like at any swimming meet that Ian Thorpe attends .

But his is more fun! :D

Dagorion 04-09-2003 07:21 PM

Well I could almost accept Donut's anthem, it’s been so damn long since I sang it I cant even remember the words. Then again, I don’t think I know anyone who can sing the whole thing through; we all just seem to mumble along with everyone else...

TheCrimsomBlade 04-10-2003 12:11 AM

I saw Gibraltar once and it's all covered in bird dung and not something I would want to sing about let alone write a National Anthem about, so please explane that to me will ya?

Iron_Ranger 04-10-2003 12:34 AM

Strange anthem for strange people. ;) Hehe, j/k I was actaully considering starting a thread commending assuie for their appearnent 'brillant' work in Iraq.

OK, I'll bite. :D I guess the thing about Ozzies is that we never take ourselves seriously. :D You can call us any name under the sun and it just doesn't register - if someone doesn't like us they can stick it up their sphincter. Especially if they're Pommies - seeing as we've been flogging them for decades on the sporting field, it's the only way they can gain a measure of revenge on the colonials. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Kaltia 04-10-2003 12:09 PM

I think that Sigmar wins the worst national anthem competition!
I wish I could remember how mine went to challenge it!
Doesn't the Australian one go "Advance Australia fair...?" ;)

What is a Pommie? Is it like a Commie? Or maybe it's a pomegranite, but then why are you flogging them?
Seriously, though, what's a Pommie?

Kaltia 04-10-2003 12:47 PM

A Pommie is Aussie slang for a Briton ;)

Anyway they just wanted to have a national anthem and so they started a competition. If this one was the best though, I hate to think of what the failed atttempts would have sounded like! >_<

Actually, an Englishman...we wouldn't be including the Sweaties and Taffs in there... :D
Pom is derived from 'Prisoner of his Majesty' (which was sewed onto their convict uniforms), POHM which was shortened to Pom because the Australians had difficulty remembering the longer version.

I'm not sure if the rest of the world knows this but up to the 1960's Britain sent many of our criminals (or 'crims' as they are known in Australia - notice how the can't manage the full word) to Australia as a punishment. This will give you some idea about how bad it is there. They are all descended from CRIMS!!!!! This has left them with a massive inferiority complex which I think is undeserved because I once met a decent one.

Many of them find the need to return to their roots though and can be found sleeping nine to a room and drinking themselves senseless in Earls Court (or Kangaroo Valley as it's known to the locals).

WOLFGIR 04-11-2003 05:23 PM

I+m fekking glad I discovered this topic while I was drunk or I would never admit to that I don´t undsertand the greek word for "i" of this post.. Well since Donut is boggling my mid agan, I will silently go back to a corner nursing my whisky and wait for the secret of telling a yoke... ;)

Davros 04-11-2003 08:02 PM

Massive inferiority complex :D :D - cricket world cup (wink), Ashes domination (guffaw), The Battle of Upton Park (LMAO) - methinks the author of that comment has drunk one too many Aussie Beers (aka Fosters).

Lanesra, could you be a good chap please, and take care of your brother for us - in his curent state of inebriation I want to make sure he doesn't hurt himself or swallow his tongue or something. ;) ;) ;)
