LOL I got the first "shake" a fraction of a second after an attempt by someone to hack into my system and I thought they had succeeded. I was about to get offline when I decided to pop in here first anyway.

Good one Ziroc!

April Fool's Day huh? I guess I'll go back to bed.

Cloudbringer 04-01-2003 08:33 AM

Bungleau 04-01-2003 08:36 AM

Grrrrrrrr...... glad I came in here before calling our tech support folks. I'd hate to have to explain why I'm here when I'm supposed to be working...

whacky 04-01-2003 08:55 AM

This script i believe is the culprit

var quakeID = 0;
var totalX = 0;
var totalY = 0;

// max pixels in each movement
var maxShift = 6;

// min movements in each quake
var minJumps = 5;

// max movements in each quake
var maxJumps = 15;

// min milliseconds between two quakes
var minBetweenQuakes = 12000;

// max milliseconds between two quakes
var maxBetweenQuakes = 16000;

and so on ...... these line do continue
Aint it ;) Hehe! Me checked the source to see if me was being fooled :D

Stratos 04-01-2003 09:00 AM

Heheh...

Almost got me there, I was just a tiny bit scared considering I´m using a computer at work right now and my boss would me there really was something wrong.

I hope it´s only temporary though ´cause I´m starting to get a headache ;)

The bluescreen was a good one though.

Happy april wossname.

Sigmar 04-01-2003 09:33 AM

On another site (about the Shining Force series of games) I'm a member of, the admin has played a couple of funny gags.

First she changed one of the "bad ass" member's name from The Evil dead to The Virtuous Living. Then she placed a pair of googly eyes, or a pair of pants, a sign saying pants and a big red cross on every avatar. It's really quite funny, especially when you see a pic of a dragon with googly eyes :D

A link to the page with the discussion regarding the avatars (PG-13 I think)

That's funny. I forgot that today was April Fool's. LOL. I tried opening the webpage from AOHell, but it kept adjusting it's location by scootching down and to the right every few seconds. I didn't get the quake thing til I closed out the AOHell viewer and opened up the IE one. LOL. That's cool. I thought the site was infected by a virus or something.

<font color=skyblue>I almost called the help desk for a service request!

Epona 04-01-2003 12:54 PM

Alas for me it's doing more than shaking - it's just moving further and further down my screen and I have to keep scrolling to find the window. Dan - it may please put it back to normal - I can't read any threads and it's taken me 20 minutes to post this :(

It's also evening here now ;)

Cloudbringer 04-01-2003 03:05 PM

I've had trouble with my eyes today, so I've been avoiding GD while it 'shakes'. I can see how it might be giving some people a headache, that's for sure! :(

I'm posting the following for Epona, who cannot get into IW with the shaking going on:

Quote:

Dan, I would be really grateful if you could turn off the screenquake thing now. It was funny initially, but as an AOhelL user, I cannot use IW while it is going on. The screen for me, and I suspect for other AOL users, doesn't shake as others have described - it disappears, and reappears off the page every couple of seconds or so, and then I have to scroll around to find the window. As if that isn't enough, after about a minute of doing this, it is causing AOL to crash. Also there is no method that I can see, unlike with IE, of turning off the scripting.

I am finding it more than irritating - it is making it impossible for me to even read posts at IW, and now I can't get in at all.

This is a heartfelt plea - please please please turn it off now, I think everyone has seen the joke, but for me it is just no longer funny when I can no longer even access my favourite website, and when my PC crashes every time I check back to see if it's back to normal.
PS: Attalus is having the same problem with the screen shrinking or going off.

Angelousss 04-01-2003 03:11 PM

i didn't fall for it cause my roomate click on a "you are an idiot" link just before i logged on but man it's giving me a hell of a headache.

andrewas 04-01-2003 03:13 PM

Go into your internet options and disable scripting, that will get rid of it. Just remember to turn it on again at some point, or a lot of websites will stop working.

And I dont know how the tradition goes in florida, but over here april fools day ends at noon. Which is 9 hours ago. Only 4 hours by server time. Anyway, Im getting a headache as well now.

EDIT] Thatll teach me to read posts properly. While im sure even AOHell must have this feature somewhere, I dont use them anymore, so I cant have a look. But you can run IE through AoHell. Just connect using the AOL dialler and minimise it. Load IE.

You've got all the answers Andrewas, it works

Gangrell 04-01-2003 04:22 PM

Guys, I changed my script and my screen is still shaking. Hopefully this is just for today I hope.

Gammit 04-01-2003 04:34 PM

Thanks alot, Z. I officially wet myself in fear until I read this.

Kakero 04-01-2003 05:07 PM

well, it's already 2/4 over here. but the shaking is still on. :D

The Lilarcor 04-01-2003 06:50 PM

I've just been ignoring it, thinking that it is another problem of my slow pc, then I realized it was just this site... so there you go.

Vaskez 04-01-2003 07:17 PM

LMAO! Nice one Z. Now we can see how many people are using crappy browsers :D Thankfully my Mozilla browser just un-masximises itself once and then does nothing else even though the script is still running. No major probs hehe.... hint: you should all ditch IE. :D

Angelousss 04-01-2003 07:56 PM

where should that scripting be, all of found is script debugging and that didn't do anything. What am i looking for and where is it?

I used IE and only got a slight shake ofthe window every now and then...nothing that I'd call intolerable, I thought it was a good prank.

Next year I suggest Ziroc loads up negative images in GD. ;)

(Memnoch, I resisted...the other thread! ;) )

I just had to mention how funny the negative images would be...hoping you all forget in a year's time ha ha ha.
