Cerek's post asking us to rate some games gave me an idea.
Name here your 5 all-time favourite video games, in order of preference Mention what they were played on as well. (Yeah, for example : Aladdin was different on PC and SNES). After a while, I will gather infos and sort out the 5 most loved games of all IW |
1) Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (N64)
The best game ever. My dream coming true on the N64 after waiting a long time. It was the only reason why I bought the N64 and the following up game Majorah's Mask had me dissapointed. 2) Baldur's Gate II (PC) The Game which brought me into RPG's. It was the first D&D game after starting with hack and slash RPG's like Diablo 1 and 2. 3) Zelda (SNES) Still one of the best games, with a magnificent story, really sucking me up in the game and getting me into Zelda. 4) Transport Tycoon (PC) One of the most addicitive games ever and still nice to play these days. Better then just simple building like Sim City. Never really liked that one. 5) Unreal Tournament (PC) I loved all the different kinds of modes, espescially the assault mode. I haven't played the newer version yet, but this game got a grip on me. Downloaded a shitload of mods for it. |
<font color=deeppink>I´ve only played PC games.
1) Civilization. Not sure which is the best but I´ll go with CivII. There is no other game that has stolen so many hours of my life. They are all still installed on my computer, of course the original Civ runs a bit erratic, and I still get caught up in those games. 2) The Elder Scrolls: Arena. Yepp I still argue that this game is the best in the series. Daggerfall and Morrowind are also great games but there are several like them. When arena was released it was somewhat unique. I mean 400 towns to visit and beautiful graphics for those days. 3) System Shock. Although I´m not a fan of 1st person shooters these two games had me hooked. Scary environment, great story etc. 4) Thief: The dark project. I could have picked Thief 2 as well. Great game! This is the game that introduced the thief class in RPG as a wort while class to play. 5) Baldur´s gate. A very close call with Wizards&Warriors on this one. I enjoyed BG thoroughly, although I found it almost, *cough* too easy *cough*. Still, it gets my vote. </font> |
1) Gauntlet - The arcade version. Yorick and I used to pump that thing with 20c pieces every holidays.
"Valkyrie needs food; badly" "Elf is about to die" I can still see it and hear the music in my head. 2) Impossible Mission - Commodore 64. "stay a while, stay FOREVER!" - need I say more? "Destroy him my robots!" 3) Goldeneye - <s>SNES</s> N64 - Utterly addictive. Loved Big Head and Paintball modes. 4) Pirates - Amiga. Now let's see a sloop or a saloon? 5) BG1 - Led to a whole new part of life online. Oh and a great game! [ 02-19-2003, 05:48 PM: Message edited by: Leonis ] |
1. Baldur's Gate series (I had pretty much given up on Computer games and and roleplaying... was way too busy growing up... then I played BG1 and my whole life changed for the better... )
2. Chaos Strikes Back (On AtariST 512) first roleplay game I ever got into... many sleepless nights and many missed college classes... ) 3. Monkey Island 1 (also on Atari, Just to much fun... ) 4. Warcraft 2 (first RTS I got into...) 5. Turrican (on my trusty old Commodore 64... this game was just so cool when it came out... I finished it proably hundred times and knew it so well that one time I finished it and still had 54 extra lives... ) |
<font color="#ffccff">
1. Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord 2. Ultima (at the time it was the only ultima in the world) 3. Zork 4. Kampfgruppe 5. Lode Runner All for the Apple II+ These stole my life for a couple of years For modern games, I agree with <font color=deeppink>Willow</font> that nothing has taken more hours from me than Civ II and Civ III. As a matter of fact, some of my coworkers and I keep a game of Civ III running in the background while we work and take turns when we can. (single player games, not multi...) And the BG series also has to be listed too. </font> [ 02-19-2003, 08:10 AM: Message edited by: MagiK ] |
1.Morrowind (PC)
2.Baldurs Gate series (PC/Mac) 3.Planescape:Torment (PC) 4.Myst (PC) 5.Pirates (Amiga) 6.Civilisation (PC) [ 02-19-2003, 08:49 AM: Message edited by: Yorick ] |
1)X-Com
2)BG2 3)Civilzation III 4)Colonization 5)Zelda series (Nes, Snes) X-Com is still my favorite game. Addictive and very time consuming. The random factors made every mission interesting and made for very high replay satisfaction. If you haven't played it before. PLAY IT! PLAY IT! PLAY IT! |
Quote:
Oh, and Jumpman, any platform (not JR, or JM2, just Jumpman) Might and Magic: World of Xeen Heroes of M&M III Bard's Tale I - my very first CRPG. My friend and I cracked the code one night and spent HOURS figuring out all the item numbers. We found a broom and an old man figurine - beat that! |
only the top five? OK. Lets see.
UFO - enemy unknown (aka "X-COM - UFO defence").On PC. Real time resource management, turn based tactical combat. With big explosions, freaky aliens and crap graphics. Best game ever. Elite+ . PC, moslo'ed. Although all versions are good. Archimedes version is reputedly the best, although there are no good emulators. Has anyone not heard of this one? Best game ever. Transport Tycoon. PC. railroad tycoon and suchlike are good games, but this one just has that something that they lack. A depth of play that got lost with the later games. Crap graphics though. X-Wing. PC. Space combat simulator. One of the harder games out there. I dont know many people that beat this one honestly. I barely did it myself. never did get the B-wing expansion finished. Civilisation. PC. CivII may be better technicaly, but Civ was the original that I grew up with. Used to be able to get to alpha centauri in an afternoon, but only on easy. |
1. -old time favourite, bards tale 2
2. first decent startegy game on PC, Warlords 3. Civ series 4. Baldurs Gate 5. Age of Kings |
Goldeneye was actually on N64, Leonis
I like: 1) Baldur's Gate series. No chance anyone can take that first place, I think 2) Civilization. Most brilliant game ever. Even managed to be victorious at Earth (with the Romans), Chieftain level, at 400 BC. 3) Unreal Tournament. Best fragging game ever. 4) Colonization. I was the only one of the family who (partially) understood how it was to be played, and I really enjoyed it. 5) So many games can come here.. Can't make a choice. |
1.Zelda series
2 Baldur's Gate 1 3. Icewind Dale 4. Turok series 5. Earthworm Jim series. |

5. Robot City - Very innovative. Based in the Isaac Asimov style universe, you had to solve a murder you were a suspect of. Also, the name of the victim, David Poole, was a reference to my favorite film, 2001: A Space Oddysey.
4. Command and Conquer Gold - First Real time strategy for me. If my first was that disaster KKND, it would still rank highly. No one can take away the first. An excellent and revolutionary design besides, hours of fun, into the night. 3. The Ultimate Doom - First FPS I played. It blew me away. It was fun, fast, and scary. Few games compare 2. Half Life - A game that scared me. It was deep, engaging, you almost cry as your colleagues are murdered brutally, and feel the rage build, and satisfaction run through your veins like blood. But, it paled in its verisimilitude compared to... 1. System Shock 2 - Scariest game ever. This game scared me, it made me cry, it made me laugh. Korenchkin's log entry made me so full of rage. I wanted to kill. I wanted to find the monster and kill him. The Depth, the fear, the atmosphere. It beat everything else to a pulp. No game will ever even come close. |
1) BG2 (PC)
2) Age of Kings (PC) 3) Starcraft (PC) 4) NWN (PC) 5) Counter-Strike (PC) They're all really close though. |
1) Final Fantasy 7 (PS1) - Great story, characters(except Cait Sith), music and gameplay. It just never gets old. I'm playing it for the ninth time now. Just play it now if you haven't already.
2) X-Com (PC) - Strategy game where you have to stop an alien invasion. But you don't just get a super powerful ship then destroy 1,000 alien ships and then fight a boss. You have to build bases, buy weapons, recruit and train soldiers, shoot down UFO's, investigate crash sites and research alien technology. Try to play it for an hour in the evening and you'll soon find that its 5 a.m. and you have work the next day. Completly addictive. :D 3) Metal Gear Solid (PS1) - Still a lot better than MGS2. The characters are memorable and the story is unforgettable. 4) Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 (PC) - BG1 introduced me to CRPG's and BG2 improved on the original in every way. 5) Goldeneye (N64) - The only non-PC game that has a good multiplayer mode. It just works so well. A 4 player deathmatch with "one shot kills" can last for hours. There are still lots of games that could easily be in my top 5: Deus Ex, Command and Conquer, Unreal Tournament, Fallout, Alpha Centauri.......the list goes on. |
1. Might and Magic VI ( PC ). This game took me the longest to finish. about 1 month. to me there's no better pc rpg than that.
2. Breath of Fire 3 ( PSX ). This game to me is perhaps the best console rpg out there. 3. Golden Axe 2 ( Arcade ). This game was the most popular arcade game in my town. everyday there's a lot of people standing by the machine just to play it. so you'll always have to push and shove people around to have the chance to play it. I didn't realise how much 50 cents I've pump into the machine. 4. Medal of Honor : Alied Assault ( PC ). This is the first shooter game I ever played. I was amazed by the almost realness of the graphic and sound. until now I still replay the 3rd mission ( omaha beach )over and over. 5. Minesweeper ( err..it comes together with win98 ). I don't know why I put it here. It's just that I always play this game while waiting for the IE to load the page. My record is 7 seconds on easy which I'm trying to beat. anybody done better than that? |
1. BG II
2. Civilization 3 3. Theif: The Dark Project 4. Final Fantasy 5. Age of Wonders |
these are some of my favorite games
1. Baldur's Gate series 2. Blood Omen 2(PS2) 3. Final Fantasy 7...or was it 8 or 9.....(it was the one with Cloud in it) 4. Soul Reaver 1&2 (PS1 and PS2) 5. Starcraft (PC) [ 02-19-2003, 08:19 PM: Message edited by: dark soul ] |
1) Star Control 2 - the game that got me into gaming in the first place
2) Baldurs gate 2 SoA - best rpg in the genre still 3) X-com ufo defence - the later series arent quite as good as the first sadly 4) Heroes of might and magic 1 - replayed this only a bazillion times hehe 5) starcraft - the first good plot in the genre imo |
1)Halflife(pc)-great game to begin with, and is quite simply the most modable game i've ever heard of. many of the great mods have at least gotten their start on halflife
2)Mgs(playstation)-I only recently played this game but it was great. My roomate had bought the 2nd and had the first so i played through both(sucked up a weekend) much better than the second, very inventive plus snake isn't a wuss like raiden 3)Civ2(computer)-an improvement on a great game, nothing more needs to be said 4)Dues Ex(pc)- I've beaten this game more times than i can think of. Amazing story, great gameplay 5)Baldur's gate series(pc)-come on look where i am. Of course i love bg. |
Here's where I show how little I play any more... all PC too; no consoles around these parts.
1. Might & Magic 6. Hours, and I mean hours, of gameplay. Plus Castle Darkmoor, which made me just roll up my sleeves and do battle. 2. Wizards & Warriors. Still playing, after all these months. Missy may finish her game in a month or three, depending. 3. MM1 -- Apple ][e. Okay, going way back, and nothing by today's standards, but I still remember the exhiliration of "Dragon Town Hall Meeting -- Disrupt (Y/N)?" 4. Bard's Tale II -- Commodore 64. Hours, and I never even completed it. But what fun! 5. Ultima... 6? The avatar? Many more hours waste-^h^h^h^h^h^h invested here. |
In no particular order -
1) AH64-D Longbow - IMO best helo sim ever made 2) Planescape Torment - a true classic 3) Darklands - Absolutely loved this game 4) ANY of the Infocom text advenures - but especially Suspended - how can games with NO graphics at all be so much fun???? 5) Civilization II _ Sid Meier's jewel Oh geez, that's five already ... lol |
hrmmm in no particular order
1. FF7 (PC). Played it more times than I can remember. I will eternally love anyone who can tell me how to get it working on a win2k laptop. 2. Deus Ex (PC). Got into it a lot more than System Shock 2, even though they're really similar. Hugely flexible gameplay. Love how you can pretty much do anything in a mission, so its not too goal-oriented that you get bored, mission based enough to be cool. 3. Kingdom Hearts (PS2). Love this game. I'm not yet sure if it should be under gaming greats, but the kid in me loved the return to disney land 4. Diablo (PC). Loved the atmosphere. D2 doesnt even compare to it. 5. Max Payne (PC). Coolest gameplay ever. Ever. |
1. Baldur's Gate Series. II is much better than I, but I is better than any other RPG, except:
2. Planescape: Torment. It's got succubi, tieflings, floating skulls, and a personal involvement so deep that I, for one, will never forget it. 3. Sid Meier's Civilization II. Has a game this old ever gotten so many votes? 4. Neverwinter Nights. I know a lot of you don't like it. I do. 5. Icewind Dale series Honorable mention: Myst I'm kidding!!!! |
1. Final Fantasy 3 (SNES) - I put well over 200 hours into this game. No other game I've played has even come close to having so mayn hours spent towards it.
2. Civilization II (PC) - Still playing this one even though I have Civ III now too. 3. Secret of Mana (SNES) - The only other game I've put more than 100 hours in. I don't know how many people have even played this game, but it's super cool. 4. Civilization III (PC) - Like Civ II, except with more features. Those are the only games I play all the time. I like some others, but I don't play them like I do those 4 games right there. |
1. Civ 2 (PC) - I´ve never spent longer playing any game. Sometimes I had 10 games going on at once. This is classic, if any, though it starts to be outdated. #3 was a slight letdown, and #1 is hard to get back in the it being so old and mayhaps a bit simple.
2. Championship Manager 2/3+ (PC) - Back in the days when I was a soccer fanatic this really made me sit down for weeks in row. What´s best, this one doesn´t get outdated due to graphics don´t play much role in it. 3. BG 2/1 (PC) - Both are great, BG1 had better plot, but 2 is more advanced in every way. 4. Ghouls´n´Ghosts (C64) - An excellent adventure with excellent music. The fact that I never finished this still makes me think should I buy a new C64 to be able to rest in peace. 5. Monster Truck Madness 2 (PC) - Played this over and over again to the point that no one online was able to give me a challenge anymore. #1 is also classic in my books. Bubblin Under: Magicland Dizzy (C64), Civ3 (PC), Grand Prix 2 (PC), Sim City (PC), Fallout 1 (PC), MechWarrior 2 - Mercenaries (PC), Boulder Dash series (anyone remember?) (C64). 1) Baldur's Gate series (PC)
2) Zelda series (NES and SNES) 3) Civilization II (PC - I don't like Civ I or Civ III, funny enough) 4) Prince of Persia (Ancient PC) 5) Dizzy Series (ZX Spectrum and Ancient PC) |
