In another thread someone asked why duct tape is in such demand. Well, as my father always told me one of the most important things he learned from 37 years in the construction trade is that duct tape will fix anything! Here are some handy sites to help those out who do not know the wonder of the magical material:

It's right up there with the tek screw for the king of the temporary fixit jobs. I personally call it "hundred mile an hour tape". Beautiful stuff.

I was hearing something about how duct tape and alluminum foil was supposed to protect you from terrorist poison gas. I think that is downright hilarious.
|
Yea Az, you wrap it around your nose and mouth so you pass out before the gas get's you ;) hehehe
I have used the tape to fix a blown radiator hose, but it doesnt do well with gasoline ;) |

Second if terrorists releace a dirty bomb, or a biological weapon in a city, there is likely to be some distance d away from the exposion where the people who do nothing suffer more serious injury then the people who try to seal up their place of residence. |

Well, I haven't exactly gotten around to sealing off a room, and wonder how I would as I have floor-to-ceiling windows in every room.
But, duct tape rocks. Any good southerner knows that the only two tools you need are duct tape and WD40. You see, if it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD40. :D |
As long as the windows are closed, you're fine. :D
The idea is to keep biological and chemical agents out of the air you breath. |
There are two essentials in life Duct tape and W-D 40. Duct tape to keep things from moving that aren't 'spose to, and W-D 40 to get thing to move that are 'spose too. :D
Edit: I posted before I saw your'n T.L. I knew there was something I liked about you. [ 02-13-2003, 06:24 PM: Message edited by: John D Harris ] |
Hmmm. Able to fix anything? Well, I don't know about anything, but I had an Oldsmobie Omega one year (back in 93)and my ex-wife got into an accident with it. Luckily, it wasn't bad. It tore off the bumper post on the driver side and also broke the headlight fixture. Well, I couldn't afford getting it fixed properly, but did have some duct tape. I just wrapped it around and around the bumper to the frame. It held for a long time. I also used it to hold the headlight in. That wasn't as good a fix, cause if I hit a bumpy road, the light would angle up some. It made for some hilarious moments. It looked like I was spotlighting the sky for a plane attack back from the 40's or something. LOL. I would stop the car and gently push it back into place. Good for another 50,000 miles. I never did replace the fixture. Just kept driving on the duct tape repair.

Duct Tape is one half of the "only tools you need in your tool box"
They are Duct tape and WD-40 If it moves and it shouldn't, duct tape to hold it in place. If it doesn't move, but it should, WD-40 to loosen it up. |

Can anyone give me some advice. If I can only have two tools in my house what should I choose. Ideally I'd like something to stop things moving that shouldn't move and something to get things moving that should move.
:D |
ROFL well done Donut :D i'm sure there is an answer posted here somewhere
If "Why duct tape" is the question, then surely "because the hamster will split otherwise" is the answer... . [ 02-14-2003, 05:48 AM: Message edited by: wellard ] |
This may sound like a very stupid question but what in Gods name is duct tape. What do we call it in OZ. Anybody know?

Well Gazza if you are a musician you will have heard of Gaffa tape .. it is about the same.
If you are not a musician then please ignore this useless post Duct tape is a very strong fabric tape (made by 3m iirc) it is very flexible and can withstand quite high and low tempratures and as such can be used to join air condition ducts together. hope that helps.. we use it a lot for the aircraft ducting in the internal recirc and conditioned air systems. |

Duct Tape is the stuff that holds the universe together. I actually read that in a PnP RPG once...so it must be true. Without it we would all be falling apart. Oh, and about that hampster. You realize of course, you will have to clean that mess up Wellard.

There was an article in the paper this morning about a NC company that makes duct tape. This company is one of the world's largest producers of the stuff, and they've seen their orders increase 5000% in the last week or so. :D
