G'day cobbers

Less than 10 hours to go before the kickoff between England and Australia football teams at upton park, London. Use this thread to post predictions, team news , match action, smart arse comments, post match bragging and excuses.

But please lets keep the humour merciless and bigoted at all times :D in the best football tradition.

johnny 02-12-2003 04:42 AM

Well, let's just say, that this is one teamsport where the Aussies DON'T dominate the Brits. :D

Memnoch 02-12-2003 04:47 AM

Don't speak to soon, johnny...from what I hear, Sven Goran will be unleashing the Seven Dwarfs after halftime. :D

Masklinn 02-12-2003 04:48 AM

Hehe sorry

Then...Go Australia go !!!
It will be hard but you can do it !!!

Anyway I will be too busy watching France vs Czech Republic :D

GokuZool's prediction

England 2
Australia 1

The Socceroos will score in the 20th minute. Kewell will put in a great cross, Viduka will head it in England will come back just before half-time to even out the scores. Then in the 85th minute or so, England will score the winner.

(If I get this right I will be showered in riches :D )

However, England are going to put on a "younger" side on in the second half, (Rooney etc.) so if the Socceroos score in the first half, they should secure the win! (hopefully ;) )

Is this what they call an each way bet?

wellard 02-12-2003 07:11 AM

Latest odds on Australia winning are 15-2.

It seems as if England are not going to take this match seriously, they plan on playing up to 7 new players in the second half. for this reason alone I hope beyond hope that Australia win. I hate arrogance

Huh wha??? I think history says they haven't beaten us in what, over 20 years isn't it? ;)

Barry the Sprout 02-12-2003 08:00 AM

Oh bloody hell, Beattie's playing. One of my housemates is a Soton supporter, we'll never hear the end of it if he scores...

In Tennis, Rugby and Cricket England have won the last matches between the two countries. Will our winning streak come to an end?

I'm amazed that people are getting up early to watch this match. I doubt I'll bother watching it at all. In fact I think I'll use the time to wash my hair!

Masklinn 02-12-2003 08:40 AM

Waaaah 1h45 to wash your hair ?!
Do you wash them one by one or what ?!

:D

Davros 02-12-2003 09:49 AM

What was that about winning the last cricket match - Cough Cough VB Series Cough ;) .

LOL - good one Masklinn - I think it more likely he will be hiding in the bathroom afraid to come out - that is, he will be if "the unthinkable" happens tonight ;)

I'm sure donut and friends have their list of excuses already worked out. One of them being that it was just a friendly so it dont count. :D Or it was just a trail game to give the youngsters a run, not a serious match at all

Horatio 02-12-2003 12:12 PM

Come on ENGLAND! Come on ENGLAND! :D

Yeah, it seems that we're just using this as a training match. Rooney...well, he might get a goal, but I doubt it. He is far too young IMHO. That said, I think the score will come to England 2 Oz 1.

Serious now, i think Oz has some pretty good players, but experience plays an important role in this, and that's something the Aussies lack. Sure... they might beat England, but i think the Brits must have a total off day when that happens.

Btw, Holland is playing Argentina tonight, that could be a good match as well.

It sounds like a cracker. was it 74 or 78 that they both played the world cup final? I remember the holland team from the 70's what a classic line up. I screamed myself hoarse for holland to win that world cup :( . I hope they win tonight Johnny.

Ps what is your prediction for both matches?

wellard 02-12-2003 01:55 PM

Match kicks off in 5 mins. Judging from the poor response from our colonial masters they must be frightened, nervous, on the toilet with nerves ect.

But no doubt after the match they will be full of bluster " piss and wind" as they say :D

Still i predict 2-0 to england, but with australia playing well in the second half.

Of course not - we always make 11 substitutions at half time in serious matches.

:D

arion windrider 02-12-2003 02:56 PM

go australia :D

wellard 02-12-2003 04:09 PM

Half time score

Australia 2 England 0

Horatio 02-12-2003 04:15 PM

Horatio 02-12-2003 04:53 PM

Jeffers scored for your guys - good glancing header.

From our side - Popovic, Kewell, and Emerton :D

Leonis 02-12-2003 05:27 PM

How's that hair looking Donut? Was there any left to wash? :D
Lanesra! I think your bro's stuck in the bathroom and can't get out!

I am really starting to like you my friend - now where are our other good friends Donut and Lanesra?

Leonis 02-12-2003 05:38 PM

You know, it really had to happen at some point. I was thinking yesterday that the international football community must have been thinking "The Aussies are so unnaturally good at so many other sports, and have some amazing individual footballers, - so when are they going to get it together as a team - and how frightening will it be when they do??"

My hit prediction - Australia's ascention in football has just kicked off. May take a while but it's now on the way...
Too late for predictions. I see Australia beat England, i don't know how the hell that happened.

Question for the Aussies: Did Brett Emerton play ?

Holland-Argentina was one of the most boring matches i've ever seen. Both teams played at best at 50%, the crowd got cheated tonight. But at least Holland did their job, they beat Argentina 1-0. V. Bronckhorst scored with a shot from long distance.

ROFL!! I was laughing a lot at most of the other replies predicting an England rout but this made me laugh out loud!

Man! I'm still excited! Unfortunately I missed Emerton's goal cause I had to go out to uni but was a great game! Perhaps England should have approached the game as if they were already 4 nil down in a series :D

Curlcurl 02-12-2003 10:17 PM

now watch the english press bring out the excuses

Leonis 02-12-2003 10:37 PM

Yes, but they'll be making excuses for our win: in the vein of:

England - one of the greatest football nations on Earth was beaten by a shaky and uninspiring Aussie side. Basically England played crap. They should not have lost, but they did, badly.

You know - the double underhand comment style where they are basically bagging both teams out...
