Alrighty, inspired by an arguement at school and someother sruff, I decided
A) this is the most important question IN THE WORLD
B) I wanna know!
So...the good, and bad...points of kitty cats!
(Of course, posters in this thread will realise knows where they live).
IMFO (In my fantastic opinion-modest, aren't I :D ) Cats are the ultimate family pet. They can be affectionate, fluffy friends! Mine are I want to put this "cats are selfish aloof buggers" business aside. My cats are never aloof. They collapse on my lap and spread out until what was once a fairly large persian/siamese cross resembles a puddle of oil with a head sticking out. They get lonely and depressed if you don't pet them. They are fantastic, so nyuh

Horatio 02-06-2003 12:12 PM

terrible. That's what they is.
Dogs are much better :D

Dogs....bleh. Horrid, smelly things Cats at least wash themselves...*sigh* it's just no good explaining to the uneducated, is there, ROBERT :D

Horatio 02-06-2003 12:17 PM

Dogs wash...each other. In their own special way :D

I can't wait til I get out of Uni and can get a dog. At the moment I share a flat and it'd be really inconsiderate to have one :( I used to as a kid, and I miss em... :(

I wanna kick a cat :D

Kaltia, I personally love cats. I inherited one from my best friend when she moved away. The cat was pregnant at the time, and her baby now lives with my boyfriend. I love both of them, especially when they snuggle in your lap to go to sleep.

Kaltia 02-06-2003 12:24 PM

Ah...cats...Harleyquinn, that's so sweet! My cat Tramp (no laughs from the Brits, k?) was bought at a pet-shop. My mum chose him 'cause he bit her finger . The other, a purebreed chocolate-point siamese, Thai, probably has the most character I've ever seen in a cat. He attempts to comfort you when you're upset. I'm not saying this as a sort of cat-lover-gone-mad like my grandmother  , but because whenever someone in my family starts crying, he's there immediatly, on your lap, purring. He wanders around the house yelling (he IS a siamese, blooimin' vocal cats) whenever he can't find the other one or a lap to sit on.

quietman1920 02-06-2003 12:27 PM

In-law Relations have 3 dogs that smell of dog waste, as does their apartment and their things. One Whiff cured me of my wish to have 'dogs instead' instantly. But I have to admit that when I address my wife's cats at all, is probably to say "Bad Cat! Bad!!!"

Cats are Bad; Dogs aren't any better.

The Hunter of Jahanna 02-06-2003 12:34 PM

Cats are just another ingriedient in chineese food, like cabbage or rice. That makes them wonderfull animals, as long as they stay in my kitty fried rice, and not in my apartment.

johnny 02-06-2003 12:35 PM

</font>
No, that will take a few weeks longer if it keeps going like this. But that's okay, i'm not in a hurry. Gives me an exellent opportunity to celebrate my birthday in someone else's house, and leave THEM behind with all the mess. :D

realbinky 02-06-2003 01:03 PM

In my experience cats are OUT dogs are IN. They have to be the right dogs, though. My dog is extremely intelligent and obedient, thanks to genetics and training. His sister, owned by my brother-in-law and his wife is a waste of space. As are their kids, but that is a parenting issue :[. I can tell you dogs are closer to people than cats: my dog has epilepsy, and takes the SAME medication for it that people take. If a cat has eplilepsy, there is no medicine for it. My dog can make many expressions, cats all have one: disinterest, unless it's catnip, then it's feverish madness. I have met some ok cats, though, in that they were like dogs.

Kaltia 02-06-2003 01:05 PM

And I've met some okay dogs, in that they shut up and kept the hell outta my way. Dogs are infinatly more vicious than cats. I was attacked by a pair of dogs when I was about five and since then I freak whenever I hear one bark.

Algurgazan 02-06-2003 01:14 PM

i think cats are way better than dogs. they are more intelligent, more fun, you don't have to walk them... etc. etc. and they are furrier, cuter, nicer, better, best.

or something like that.

arion windrider 02-06-2003 01:41 PM

we have both a cat and dog... both are cool

pritchke 02-06-2003 03:12 PM

I love cats, dogs are OK but smelly. I don't know about dogs being more viscous. When I was little (5 or 6) a black cat jumped up and started clawing my face and I was only standing around. I was lucky it didn't get my eyes.

However that was the only cat I ever met that vicious and evil. Cats, are like people too. Most are great and generally take care of themselves as long as you change the litter, place food, and water in their bowl. My last cat used to run along side me occasionally when I went jogging, or we used to play this hunting game were he would stalk me and playfully pounce at me, I would do the same. Although only in the back yard because I probably looked a bit ridicules. Also when people are scratched when playing with them they don't usually intend to scratch you, but it may happen when you pull your hand away to quickly. Oh, and they almost always bring you home a trophy when hunting, squirrel tails, birds, at least mine used to drop these things at my feet even if I didn't want them but it was the thought that counts. Oh and Xmas is their favorite time of year, lots of wrapping paper, and boxes to play in, pretty shiny bulbs to knock of the tree.

LOL!! That was what our past christmas was like. I got the first real tree I've had since I moved out of my parents house at 18 (10 years ago). It took the cats about 2 days before they had removed all of the ornaments from the tree (and even broke a few). My cat (the mama) kept running off with the candy canes even, so for weeks after x-mas I was finding candy canes all over the apartment.

My baby is solid black except for a little white under her chin and a broken tail from when she was hit by a car before I got her. My "grandbaby" is a brown and black and white tiger striped cutey.

Jeffi0 02-06-2003 03:30 PM

I don't like cats all that much. With the exception of my cat, of course, but that's because she is the greatest cat in the world. :D Cats are boring and not loyal at all (though some cats may be, but I have yet to find one) whereas dogs are lots of fun and are loyal. Plus, a guard cat would be fairly useless, as it would probably either not care or sleep through a robbery.

Charlie 02-06-2003 03:54 PM

Weird thing I've never understood between cats and dogs.
Make a dog happy - It'll run round in circles, wag its tail, yap, jump, etc etc.
Make a cat happy - It'll turn around, lift its tail and say "see that, that's my arse that is, have a good look up there".

What's all that about? :D

a) Dogs run in circles to show us life is a circe
b) cats show their butts to show us life is pants :D

LS0158 02-06-2003 03:56 PM

I like cats. My family has four. "Pippin", Muffin, Bobbi, and Lucky.

Pippin- has a head that looks slightly like Choc's, and attacks cats and people, but is always the first hiding under the bed when someone other than my family comes to the house. The ottoman in our living room is his. He uses it mostly to watch the other cats and swat at one if they come too close. All he seems to think about is his next meal and which cat (or foot) to attack next.

Muffin- grew up on a farm, then somehow got into the petsmart adoption center, and is quiet, but wants a lot of attention, and "begs" at dinnertime. Her meows are like she started to purr, but then decided to meow at the same time.

Bobbi- we usually call her bob. She loves people and warm laps, and when she meows it is always quiet and sounds slightly like "out". When she climbs onto someone's lap, she likes to have her claws out, so I usually have quite a few scratches on my leg.

Lucky- She's still afraid of us, even though she's been with us for over a year. We found her when she climbed out of a wheel in a pickup truck at a red light. We asked the driver of the car if it was his, and it wasn't. She feels the need to use my parents' bed instead of a litterbox, so we now keep the door closed to my parents' room during the daytime.

All our cats stay indoors, but they can go on the screen porch to take naps and watch birds.

RevRuby 02-06-2003 03:58 PM

count me in for a kitty vote, altho i do like dogs, i just prefer cats. dogs drool and are messy, and smell really bad! but kittys are cute and purry. my kitty is vicious, but i love him anyhow. he's my dex.

You forgot to add that the cat will then proceed to claw your furniture and then look at you innocently and meow or purr.

Charlie 02-06-2003 04:13 PM

Yes they do do that too.
On the flip side,
A dog will growl at you should you try to take his bone.
A cat will happily bring home the broken bones in a barely living rodent. "Just for you, here you go. I know it's 6AM but I bought you breakfast in bed....FRESH...I maimed it for you so you wouldn't have to work too hard. I'm so happy....here...take a look at my arse".

Cats/dogs....the conundrums are endless. :D

Cats rule dogs drool. heard it on a movie. I think Homeward Bound.

cats are good, they'll clean your house of rodent. dogs are good too as they protect your house from bad people, like stupid salesman who want to sell you things.

Vicious? cats are more vicious than dog, cats cause more injury to human being than dogs. cats will scratch and bite even to their own master, so far i haven't haerd the dog attacking their own master.

LS0158 02-06-2003 04:52 PM

The half-dead animals are an offering to you, or possibly to help teach you how to hunt, exactly like they do with kittens. since you do so much for them, like clean their bathroom, feed them, give them attention. They don't understand that we don't want half-dead things brought to us in our bed at 3:15 AM. Once, one of the cats brought my mom a small snake that had somehow made it into the garage as an offering. It didn't bite the cat or my mom, it just tried to find a way out. My mom opened the backdoor and pushed it out of the house with a flyswatter.

Cats are meant to be solitary animals and are meant to do damage. That's why their teeth and claws are sharper than a dog's. Dogs are social animals that dislike strangers not bearing dog treats.

Cats also chase their tails, they just get dizzy and run into things for a while, and then find that it's best just not to do it. Dogs just don't seem to get dizzy.

BBBBBBBAAAAAAAADDDDD!!!!!! :D

Heh, nah really, I have no problems with cats. Welll..Maybe thats an understatement, but I dont hate them. We have one, shes pretty cool. I do liek dogs better.

Cats are for lazy people . I personally think a boxer is the greatest family pet. Er..The breed of dog that is..Not Mike Tyson, I dont think he would make too good a family pet. :D

Some dogs are great! ;)
Someday when we dont live in an apartment, we will have both.

Sir Kenyth 02-06-2003 06:00 PM

Cats, dogs, ferrets, birds, hamsters, and rabbits all have their inherent good and bad points. Some are smellier, some are more playful, some are easier to train, some are easier to take care of, some are small, some are large, some are cheap, some are expensive, some are easy to house train, some aren't. You have to decide which suits your circumstances. Apartments and St. Bernards don't go well together for instance. Each animal also has numerous breeds with their individual characteristics. Most importantly, just like people, is the individual personality of the animal. A loving gentle animal of any species is a good pet. A mean one, isn't! I've had dogs, cats and ferrets. All were great animals in their own way. I developed allergic reactions to every one of them.
:(

I play that game with my cat sometimes (when he's not sleeping  ). They can be so quick sometimes.

I like cats. I have one (as above should indicate). Therefore, I think cats are good. :D

One day, I'll get a kitty and a puppy. I think that'll be great.

Ziroc 02-07-2003 06:52 AM

Cat's are awesome!

Cats were worshiped once as GODS
Cats clean themselves
Cats cover their poop
Cats are smart

Dogs are dumb
Dogs eat their own poop (and other dogs or CATS poop out of the catbox, like they were hidden 'treats' or something

Dogs are dirty. Stink.
Dogs are used as slaves to pull sled's in the snow ( ) :D

Dogs are OK... but I like an animal that can handle themselves and take care of themselves mostly.

I just prefer Cats..

Kaltia 02-07-2003 07:16 AM

Hmmm...let's think on a bigger scale, dudes and dudettes! Which would you rather face, an angry tiger or an angry wolf? :D
Anyways, I have a siamese cat (who resembles Chocolate- ) who is the sweetest, most adorable cat EVER. I don't like dogs much, but i'll make an exception for guide dogs and other types-one of my mate's parents is disabled, and she has an alsation that actually helps around the house. Rogue *is* sorta cute, but also real helpful

Sir Krustin 02-07-2003 07:33 AM

I kinda like cats, but I'll never have one in the house.

Both cats and dogs stink. Especially the males that like marking their territory.

My allergies don't help, either. I can stand to have one on my lap and pet it, but once I touch my nose the sneezing starts and it's history. Likewise, I can't stand going to cat lovers' homes that don't know when it's time to vaccuum up the hairballs.

Niadh 02-07-2003 07:37 AM

I have a cat who despite attacking most feet it sees is good. Rather picky on food though, demands it stirred or something, and miaows when he comes in at 3 AM to wake us up and let us know he is in, before going to sleep. He then tries to eat you feet at 6 or 7 AM, befroe miaowing loudly for no particular reasons, shove stuff onto the floor, shove letters in the sink and so on.

He then cuddles up to whoever.

Dogs need more mainteanance than cats, but seem easier to control.

Stratos 02-08-2003 09:17 AM

If the choice is between cats and dogs then...Cats!

Cats are proud and independent animals who ain´t taking no s***.
Dogs are nice too(very useful animals) but are more the "Your word is my law, Master" animals.

Charlie 02-08-2003 10:04 AM

I must admit cats are way smart. When I was a kid we had a flea bitten old cat called Nikki, we never saw it from one day to the next. It was a proper Old Tom. It was as old as the hills back then. Talk about smart.

If it wanted to come in it'd leap up, hang by one set of claws on the ledge where the glass was inserted and flick the door knocker like crazy with the other paw. Inside he'd also jump up and hang onto door handles until the door opened.

Ingenious creatures cats.

Iron_Ranger 02-08-2003 10:06 AM

Dogs have been more usefull through out history. Dogs are more verstile animals. And the 'your word is my law, master' part isnt neccarily true, as my former chow could clarify.

I think dogs are just funner..You can run and they chase you, they seem happier then cats..Some way.

Of course we are using the term 'dog' when actaully we are focusing more on a Lab or Golden Retriever or something. Not all dog breeds act the same.

I had a dog once that was quiet, never played AT ALL not even when she was a puppy, very independant, but loyal, and a very good watch dog. Ahh she was cool.
