Alan Mackin ?, Miles MacLagan ? and Alex Bogdanovic ?.

I imagine they must be household names somewhere, so if anyone can fill me in on the details I would be pleased to expand my education.

:D :D :D

Eisenschwarz 01-28-2003 05:07 AM

Arn't they professional chess players of some sort?

johnny 01-28-2003 05:09 AM

They are future millionairs. :D

Donut 01-28-2003 05:54 AM

They probably play some obscure minority sport.

Sir Krustin 01-28-2003 07:33 AM

Isn't Alan Mackin a tennis player?

Hello :D - I was wondering if you would put in an appearance ;)

LowTech 01-28-2003 07:46 AM

http://www.lta.org.uk/news/news030123davis.htm

They are tennis players, members of the Great Britain Davis Cup team.

Well done - 10 points to Sir K. I fact they are all tennis players - when I posted I had just found out that they are the Davis Cup squad that Great Britain have sent over to Australia to match up against Phillipousis, Woodbridge, Arthurs, and of course Lleyton Hewitt ;) .

To be fair, I just realised I had omitted their highest ranked player from the list (I was a bt to heavy on the cutting after the pasting) - a guy with the name of Arvind Parmar, who is ranked as high as 163rd. The others are Alan Mackin (332nd), Miles MacLagan (443rd) and Alex Bogdanovic (459th).

PS : In all honesty if you had asked me if I knew any of these guys, the answer would have been Arvind who?

He knows full well who they are - he's trying to bait me! And not having great success. :D

Aaaaaaaah - light goes on - light goes off - light goes on - light goes off ;) .

Well of course Aussie pride will be severely humbled if we fall over against these guys. I was expecting some "Remember Mildura" catchcries though :D . Still, you would have to think our football lads will have more chance of walking away with a victory at Upton Park in Feb, than these GB tennis guys will have next week.

Make mine a double :D

Why Pastry, I can see you have been recently destituted from Wisdom to the Underworld. How does it feel ?

ROFLOLWP - I can just picture you at the computer Donut - shaking your head and muttering "Davros Davros Davros" as you type your replies with that sinister smile of subtitle anticipation.

And yes, I am still a Horus - what can I say - lack of commitment and endeavour on my part - or maybe I just don't eat enough ;)

Davros 01-28-2003 08:31 AM

That's true LowTech - but at least that final was on foreign soil (or should I say foreign clay ;) ) and we were the underdog. Against the French 12 months ago we had homefield advantage, and Rafter and Hewitt on grass - any guesses which loss hurt the most?

Yep, it can be funny in a surrealistic way : in what other sport does a guy weighting 160 kg be qualified as agile and thin - and weirdly he LOOKS agile and thin - comparatively ...

And also, it is surrealistic that a sport that basic (pushing the other guy out of the circle, that's all there is to it really ;) ) can also be so codified and ceremonial.

Bah, I unfortunately married a guy whose thyroid gland doesn't allow putting on any weight.

Funny is - I have never seen women sumo. Does it even exist ?

You've got to admire the confidence of the English FA for scheduling an international on a ground where the home team hasn't won all season

Vaskez 01-28-2003 09:06 AM

Hmmm I've heard of Arvind Parma - he's pretty good , but I ain't heard of the others. I don't know why Britain ain't sending Henman or Rusedski - what's going on? This way Australia's gonna whip their asses.

Tim and Greg are feeling a little poorly Vaskez - they didn't play in the OZ Open either, so their injuries are genuine.

PS : Did you think Timmy and Greg would have made a difference on clay :D

Donut 01-28-2003 09:41 AM

It's not easy being an Osiris. I feel the urge to shout 'Ossie, Ossie, Ossie. Oi! Oi! Oi!.

And I'm tired of walking around with toilet paper hanging from my arms, a milk bottle on my head and carrting a crowbar!.

Sorry to resurrect this from almost 6 pages back (this board moves to fast for me these days! :D ) but I finally found a link for this, and thought that some people on the board might enjoy it:

Does anyone know who this guy is?

Baiting? Moi?

Davros 02-05-2003 04:51 PM

Sorry Barry - I can't get your link to load - don't think it is the page though, cos my connection this morning is super crappy. I will try again this afternoon.

So, only team competitions count? Anyone fancy a game of football...

(Anyone Australian that is, if anyone else plays then we'll just lose.)
