You have no clue how LOOOONNNGGG it took to get this set up! This server is online and in MY HOME now! Thanks to the donations, we came back. When we went down, (JUST LIKE L-A-S-T CHRISTMAS!) I was livid.. So I called my ISP friend, and asked when we'd be back up, and he said something.. basicly, he didn't pay his bill, and they cut him. And he said 'I'm not worried about it'.

I said, "If you aren't up by Tuesday, I'm coming to get it." so I got a high speed cable installed here ANYWAY (knowing he won't do anything for weeks) and here we are! I spend like 12 hours straight working on him.. lol, and when I went to bed last night, I didn't know if the DNS was even right, but here it is, I wake up, and people are trickling in! WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!

Post your ISP you're using. And tell me how fast loading and stuff is!!!

GLad to be back.. I said to myself, "We WILL be up during Christmas!" :D

Posting from a local-area ISP, and it seems to be going fairly fast (especially considering that this is dialup...).
I`ll check what it`s like with the bigpong ADSL when I get home

Heartless Butterscotch 12-14-2002 01:01 AM

I'm on AOHell and everything's bananas. Nice work there, Z.

SpiritWarrior 12-14-2002 01:35 AM

Awesomenet, and it was unusually slow at first but seems to pick up after I browse a bit.

Ziroc 12-14-2002 01:43 AM

Awesome! I worked my ASS off!

Here is what I did:

Ordered Business class Cablemodem service (much faster)
Ordered 1 IP (which is 24.129.134.18)
Bought a Linksys Router (4 port)

BUT, I can't get it to work like the following:
1. Cat5 goes from cablemodem to router WAN, then port 1 goes to IW server and Port 2 goes to my home PC. Even if I USE the router, it won't work..

So I have the cat5 coming out of the cablemodem right to the IW server.

What I wanted to do was the above. Now, I'm not the best at setting up networks.. but geez. I thought this would work.. I figured all I would need was 1 IP and I could bluff the other server with a 198.0.0.1 or something.

SO... I ordered another IP, so I can get work done on my other PC, and so they can talk.. this ALSO means, I can have a NWN server running

It's getting pricy, but I've gotten help from many great folks that donated.. whew!! An extra IP costs $25 (I think a Month too) .. ugh. Anyway, right now, I don't care, it's covered for atleast 3 Months, so we're sweet for now!!

This is FUN! Since the IW server is here at home, I can watch stuff in real-time! Muhahahah!

Blade 12-14-2002 02:23 AM

well i'm just on the local campus net connection here but the server seems to be moving right along hehe might wan't to give more info huh i'm currently at the U of I campous down here in moscow Idaho the server has only been online for a few hours because i was surfing around earlier and it wasn't on yeat.

the new JR Jansen 12-14-2002 02:47 AM

I'm using ADSL from my home PC and it seems faster then before.

Good job, Z.

GokuZool 12-14-2002 03:30 AM

Whoa..on my 56k connection ( ) it's going suprisingly fast!

Great work Z

dragon_lord 12-14-2002 03:42 AM

Everything is working fine for me with my ISP (iPrimus). The last week just wasnt fun at all without ironworks :( . Great work Ziroc for getting it back up! ;) And a big thanks to the people who donated money!!

kev 12-14-2002 03:45 AM

Seems to be quicker then it was from a dialup in Western Australia.

Jorath Calar 12-14-2002 04:07 AM

I just on local isp here in Iceland and yep, definetly quicker...
Great work Ziroc!...

LennonCook 12-14-2002 04:35 AM

Ok, it`s going *realy* quickly through the Telstra ADSL.
Bigpong going fast - is the world coming to an end ??

Scholarcs 12-14-2002 04:50 AM

Yes, it does seem to be rather fast.

The ISP I am using is xtra, ADSL connection (128kbit/s).

Harkoliar 12-14-2002 05:26 AM

yeah its okay.. a little faster than before.. BUT i think we should wait for everyone to come back and let them know IW is here up and running. if everyone is where lets see if the speed is ok.. that my 2c

johnny 12-14-2002 05:54 AM

I'm on ADSL from my homecomputer. IW already WAS pretty fast for me, but it seems it just got even faster. Good work dude.

Ronn_Bman 12-14-2002 08:34 AM

My T1 connection from work seems to being working just fine, and I'll let you know about Road Runner tonight when I get home. ;)

andrewas 12-14-2002 09:12 AM

AOhell dialup, runs a bit faster than before I think but given my current problems *any* connection seems good.

Ill get in on megabit ADSL monday. Should be good.

SomeGuy 12-14-2002 09:45 AM

Cable Internet access is as fast as always. I'm just glad IW is back up and running.

I couldn't wait, so I called my uncle, who also has Road Runner, and he's able to get in just fine! Woo-Hoo!

Attalus 12-14-2002 10:16 AM

I'm on AOHell, and it is working just fine, even faster than before. When I first posted, I felt that little sinking feeling. like, maybe it won't work, maybe I'll get the banned message... but it worked just fine. Great work, Ziroc. I have not a clue as to what you did, just that it's hard. Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou. *Gives Choc a can of Fancy Feast.*

Grojlach 12-14-2002 11:56 AM

I'm on a local University@home network, provided by Priority/Chello.

Night Stalker 12-14-2002 12:03 PM

On Comcast Cable ..... SOOOOOO good to be back!!

Z, for the networking thing, you probably didn't have the port mapping done right for the router .... it should have worked.

Sir Krustin 12-14-2002 03:11 PM

I'd been wondering what happened, Z.

I'm on a cable-modem with cogeco high-speed internet (formerly @home), home domain cogeco.ca

Hope thingsa are more reliable now...seems to be faster than the old service.

Sounds like a setup problem. did you configure the router? there's lots of "howtos" on the internet if you look around. there might be a faq on your ISPs homesite.

What do you mean "won't work"? details can help us pinpoint the problem.

Arvon 12-14-2002 03:20 PM

Got a new wireless hook up. Seems much quicker.

realbinky 12-14-2002 05:02 PM

Quick as usual, on ATT Broadband Cable Internet. I can't tell if it's faster, we were down for so long . I am usually on from work, and their connection is the bottleneck. It's a T1, but over a hundred users. Z, you need a cable/DSL router. You put one IP on the outside, and it provides DHCP to the inside, for many, many connections. I have 4 on the inside, and ATT thinks I have one!

WillowIX 12-14-2002 06:35 PM

Great work Ziroc . Loading seeme to be as swift as before. I have no idea about my ISP though. And can someone tell me how to get a pay-pal account? It wouldn´t let me switch from USA to Canada. :(

pschub 12-14-2002 08:25 PM

dialup with earthlink... same as before perhaps a bit faster... thanks for your work Z.. I have my browers home page to the bg2 forum and when iw forums went down it was as if the world had ended

MagiK 12-14-2002 09:44 PM

Im in an undisclosed location in New York this weekend doing Disaster
recovery drills. Things work swell from here, will let you know when I get home how things work from there.

antryg 12-14-2002 10:09 PM

I'm using SBC DSL and everything works fine. All the pages load quickly with no problems.

LordKathen 12-15-2002 12:01 AM

I am on a cable modem through Charter Comunications. Works great on this end. I am sorry I could not send anything, I dont make all that much money, and have 3 kids expecting santa, if you know what I mean. I will try after the new year. Thanks for all your hard work.

Cloudbringer 12-15-2002 01:35 AM

Going very quickly, Dan! I'm on RoadRunner too!

I was so happy to see us back up and running!!! Great news that you have it at your place! :D

Mouse 12-15-2002 06:39 AM

Bt Openworld (UK) ADSL - looking good

DragonMage 12-15-2002 07:43 AM

from MSN with a dial up and all is clear here. ;)

Morgeruat 12-15-2002 10:35 AM

I'm using earthlink, with a 56k connection, and it seems slightly faster than before, great work Z.

Cloudbringer 12-15-2002 04:20 PM

Z, DJG is having trouble logging on. Says he can find the site but can't log on. His ISP is Quista (UK). Any idea what's up there?

Sounds like a fragged account to me... tell him to try registering a test account, and log in on that.

Larry_OHF 12-15-2002 10:13 PM

I have Roadrunner as my ISP. I am currently working the net at 836Kbps, but am told that with a router, I could do 1.5Mbps. Concerning the Linksys router you bought...I have a question regarding it. I was going to get that same router, the same one that many of my friends have...but I was told by a tech guy that he stopped selling Linksys routers as soon as the Tech guys at Roadrunner reported that a very obvious hole could be found in their firewall. What do you think?

Cerek the Barbaric 12-15-2002 10:22 PM

I'm on a local dial-up ISP , but the speed seems to be about the same as it was before.

Good job, Ziroc - as always
