Is this an ancient German dialect?

Borvik 12-05-2002 06:59 AM

I don't think so - I would know it. I suppose there are some typos ;)

I found this link but didn't figure out what it is about. It seems to have something to with what Wurm tries to tell us....

Well, unless it becomes obvious to the majority of members here, I'll have to assume it's pure spam or a private message and close it. I'll give it an hour.

I was just wondering who else here uses EBG13? I for one think its alot of fun.
So if your in the know join in and help me confuse our fellow IW posters.

Lets see how long it takes for others to figure it out and post in ROT13 as well!

:D

Now that was fun.

Borvik 12-05-2002 07:27 AM

Hihihihi - quiet funny!

Wurm 12-05-2002 07:27 AM

Sorry about that Legolas, I want to have a little fun... its a shame that not many of the IW members know ROT13.

Legolas 12-05-2002 07:30 AM

Just another shift-the-letters-of-the-alphabet-x-spaces language, although I must say this one is more userfriendly than most. Don't think I'll use it a lot in the future ;)

With the spacing being 13? I suppose since you only have to memorise half the alphabet (the second half is the same in reverse) its not too bad, but the question remains - why?

Sigh. If this takes off Ill have to unearth my Enigma program and confuse you all :D

Cloudbringer 12-05-2002 07:37 AM

Ack, I have to run to work...if anyone deciphers this, let us all in on it! :D

andrewas 12-05-2002 07:41 AM

The key, for those who still dont get it:

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
nopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklm

Well, appearantly it's a hacker language used to confuse the casual person looking over your shoulder when typing a Email or Private Message.

Very useful for those who are paranoid and think whoever's after them will definately not be clever enough to decipher such a cunning code. Or something

Actually, ROT13 is sooo last year... The other IW members are simply trying to deny its existence, as it's lameness nowadays is only surpassed by "all your base are belong to us" references, using 1337-speak and any of Arvon's jokes.

See? Then why bring it up in the first place? Would be something if all those terrible 80's haircuts would suddenly reappear as well... Some hypes deserve to be forgotten.

Its actually increadibly useful, espically for something like spoilers where you can just ROT-13 the text, put a message above it saying "Spoiler about foo below. ROT-13" and then let people decide if they want to read the spoiler or not.

Too bad there are not any web-based forums that I know of that support it.
Usenet on the other hand tends to use it once in a while, as most good news readers will let you just highlight and click something to ROT-13 the text.

*shrugs*
Of course it has its uses, like any kind of cipher; it's when people think it's cool to confuse others with it when I have difficulty suppressing a loud yawn. ;)
Unless someone thinks it's cool as well if from now on I start writing all my messages in binary... It serves no purpose on a normal messageboard but to annoy people, believe me.

Wurm 12-05-2002 08:28 AM

Hey Grojlach, lets see if the IWG smilies library has what I need to express my thoughts about you peeing on my thread....

Oh yes here it is,

Wurm 12-05-2002 08:48 AM

How many times are you going to edit your reply? I was only goofing around and you chose to give me a hardtime about it. Sorry if you disagree with my little yellow friend.

-nuff said on the matter.

Cloudbringer 12-05-2002 09:20 AM

Ok, I can see this is not going well......sigh.. closing it.

If you want to discuss codes, maybe a new thread about all codes might be a good idea.
