Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Cloudbringer 12-03-2002 07:29 AM

LOL Just for you! :D

Legolas 12-03-2002 07:49 AM

I'd make a comment about first posts here but It seems kinda futile captain, so I'll just stick to saying Hello Everyone, How Were Your Days.

No snow here yet, but since some in my family seem to think you can't very well have a christmas without snow, we're going to spend it in Norway. Where the temperature will be about -20 degrees Celcius.
I just know I'm going to forget my mittens :(

On the plus side, you can ski and appearantly Norwegians like to bake LOTS of cake and cookies this time of year

/)eathKiller 12-03-2002 07:54 AM

Howdy! :D

well I'm still working on making a drow look convincingly enough like a drow...

Christmas sigs are on halt until someone asks for one again

It's better having a demand before being forced to supply IMHO...

Calaethis Dragonsbane 12-03-2002 08:25 AM

Lo all, at college, as usual... anyway, how are all of you doing? uugh ickky keyboards.. you would have thought they'd clean them from time to time....

Borvik 12-03-2002 08:37 AM

Or you can call him by his favourite names such as Calthywalthypoo. I donŽt do that anymore though do I Calthypoo? Hello everyone. IŽm off to get some shopping done

Borvik 12-03-2002 08:47 AM

Hello WillowIX... Interesting variation of Cals name. What exactlly does the POO at the end mean?

*throws a coffee mat in Willow's direction* You will *not* call me that. Understood?! :@ bad willow, always bringing that up. Have "fun" shopping... (if anyone could )...

Attalus 12-03-2002 09:12 AM

Morning, all. CD, the female of the species actually enjoys shopping, or most of them, I think. Galadria can spend over an hour at a makeup counter. Men. on the other hand, know more or less what they want when they get there, so spend much less time in the stores. Call it "buying" as opposed to "shopping." ;)

Borvik 12-03-2002 09:43 AM

*looks at his watch*

Hey, wow!!! In less than 1 hour I will leave the office

Well, of all the surprises. Garnet! Good to see you again. Hope that your phone situation is better, dear. I'll tell Galadria that you posted. ;)

No kidding about the Perfume counter. I call those salespeople the "skunks"...they'll run up to you and squirt you as soon as look at you. Maybe "perfume gestapo" would be better. ;) Worst thing is if you're allergic to scents. :(

Cheers,
-Sazerac

Garnet FalconDance 12-03-2002 10:36 AM

Hi Saz!

Chemical perfumes give me migraines...which ultimately led to my home business of several years now of making perfumes the old fashioned way with essential oils, etc. How any one can wear some of those scents in the stores is quite beyond me!

No, the phone co and I are still circling (the end is in sight finally). I'm at work most of the day anyhow, so I'll pop in now and again......And we use AIM here to talk between work stations (intercoms are not all they're cut up to be)

/)eathKiller 12-03-2002 10:49 AM

Hey willow ix, did you ever get your holiday sig?

Gammit 12-03-2002 11:21 AM

Good morning, all. Today, it was a whopping 7 degrees F (which I mean yesterday, Truemoose) as I drove in to work. Maybe today they'll turn the heat on!

Lilo & Stitch is out today to purchase, in case there are other Disney freaks here (my gf is overboard for Disney).

I can't believe how soon X-mas is coming! Maybe I should start shopping soon. (;

And I believe I will be PROPOSING to my gf about a week or so after that (we're taking a "business" trip to Disney World together)! Yikes! Here's to my nerves!!!

Drive safe, for all of you in the snow.

edit: grammar

Sazerac - I've got the perfect cure for the "Perfume Gestapo"....it's called Skunk Urine. You can buy a small container in the Sporting Goods/Hunting section. Then, when they spray you...you spray them. I garuantee you will NEVER be sprayed more than twice in the same store....EVER!!!

Attalus - I actually enjoy "browsing" the local Wal-Mart Superstore more than my wife does. But I agree with you that I am usually looking at specific products when I go. Sometimes, though, I do like to just wander around and look at different items that would make good gifts at a future date.

Oh...a quick story to tie these first two responses together. A lady in the Business Office of the hospital where I worked before would use the "skunk urine" on herself when she went shopping on Black Friday. She said she NEVER had a problem getting through the crowds.

Garnet - I already welcomed you back in the "Religion" thread...but I'm so happy to see ya that I'll welcome you here to.

Now then, could I get a Vanilla Coke over here please?

Timber Loftis 12-03-2002 01:25 PM

Hey all, good morn. . . erm... afternoon.

Lord Starshadow 12-03-2002 01:50 PM

Hey everyone! It's a special early afternoon appearance today! ;) I hope everyone is well!

Gammit, good luck with the proposal! I'm sure you'll do fine and you'll both be happy!

Why I hate snow (in response to GokuZool's query on said subject): First of all, it's cold. Cold is bad. Secondly, after the first snow, it gets very dirty and very ugly to look upon. I hate seeing black and gray snow (no need to mention the infamous yellow snow). Thirdly, walking in snow takes way more energy than regular walking due to the sinking into the snow of the feet. Which leads to cold feet, which makes me cold, which makes me miserable.

And no, I don't ski or snowboard (I'd rather not run into trees at high velocities).

Timber Loftis 12-03-2002 01:57 PM

Snow is a wonderful romantic image. It's light and appears soft and cuddly, yet touch it and it is cold and harsh. As imagery, it embodies all that is the polarized nature of the dialectic. This is why, as I once posited in a Romance Literature term paper, Mary Shelley uses snow scenes to frame Frankenstein (meaning: one at the beginning and one at the end) - it so clearly parallels the monster. ;)

Attalus 12-03-2002 01:58 PM

LOL, Cerek, I should have mentioned the Great Exception - bookstores. I can kill an hour in almost any book shop. Except one that I blundered into in Florida, which turned out to be a ... erm ... "Sapphic" establishment.
Garnet, good to hear that you will be around more. Any chance of involving you in a MP game in the future?
Willow, sorry, I have a case tomorrow, no really... :D

Not just snow, but clouds...

Flows and flows of angel hair,
And feathered canyons everywhere,
And ice cream castles in the air,
I've looked at clouds that way.

But now they only block the sun
And rain and snow on everyone.
So many things I would have done,
But clouds got in the way.

I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down and still, somehow,
It's clouds' illusions I recall,
I really don't know clouds, at all.
