<font color="plum">Also...make sure you create your own personal Folder and that you specifically choose that folder when you Upload.

Otherwise, Ranchoweb loads the pic into it's Default Folder.(found that out the hard way).</font>

<font color="lightblue">That can make them hard to find again, but doesn`t affect the URL of the picture. </font>

Slizerio 11-29-2002 03:51 PM

I did that, but it said "0 pictures using 00 Megabytes" after 5 mins, after I uploaded it. . And BTW Lennon, I emailed y Pic to you, so can you check ya email?? :D

Perhaps your picture was too big? There's a size limit, maybe that's why your picture didn't upload properly.

LennonCook 11-29-2002 05:47 PM

<font color="lightblue">Replied to the email a whole ago - keep an eye on your inbox </font>

<font color="lightblue">The one he mailed me is only 40k; ranchoweb takes 150k.

BUT, the image he mailed me doesn`t have any filename extention - I`m guessing it didn`t save properly...</font>

What do you mean by extension?
Its saved as A JPEG. What do I have to do to get an "extension"

<font color="lightblue">Examples of filenames:

file.txt
picture.gif
image.jpg
music.wav

The extention is what comes after the "." - pictures should be .jpg , .gif or .png
Basically, make sure your imaging program can open it. </font>

<font color="silver">EDIT: Ok, try this:
When you save it, put ".jpg" (minus the quotes at the end of the filename. </font>

O.K!
(Can you gve some HTML shotcuts PLz!! )

LennonCook 11-29-2002 10:03 PM

<font color="lightblue">Ok, according to /)eathkiller, your problem is that you used photoshop.
Apparently, the only way to save as a Jpeg on a mac is to flatten the image, and copy/paste it into a blank page in Netscape.

And don`t forget to put the ".JPG" onto the end of it </font>

Slizerio 11-29-2002 10:39 PM

Check your box Lennon.
And by the way.. I can't load the picture onto Netscape. What does the file have to be for you to get it on to netscape?

/)eathKiller 11-29-2002 10:41 PM

*rips heart out* YEEAAAAAH!!!!

/)eathKiller 11-29-2002 10:46 PM

*clams down* OK!!! @_@

lets try this again...

Your File type isnt a JPEG or a GIF photoshop doesnt save those file types so saving your image with mac photoshop is bad, infact the fastest way is to just up and COPY it, that's right, FLATTENt he image first of all, then SELECT ALL, then COPY, then open up NETSCAPE

OK NETSCAPE is that too hard?

well lets try this again OK now MINIMIZE/CLOSE the window you just coppied that image from (I HOPE THIS IS 155X225 PIXELS) and then Go to your Netscape Navigator Folder, open it and click twice in rappid suscession onto your Netscape Navigator button, WOOH now say file NEW blank page and when a blank page comes up say PASTE

AND THEN it asks you to SAVE this image, MAKE SURE to keep the .jpg at the end of it if you intend to keep this a UNIVERSAL file

MACS see the .jpgs and the.gifs whilt hey dont NEED them to recognize a file, PCs on the other hand MAKE the .jpgs and .gifs INVISIBLE but they are 100% NECESSARY in order for a file to be recognied (oh and .PNGs are nice too)

Ranchoweb ONLY accepts files ending with their file types and files that are of the JPG, GIF and PNG distinction... do I make myself clear?

*sigh*

sometimes I just get so irritated when mac users dont understand their macs wehnt they use them...

i appologize if i sound stern or angy... I'm really beating myself up inside...

<font color="lightblue">Not quite. Windows ME and above *can* hide file name extentions (to prevent you from messing a file up completely by changing it), but don`t necesarily do so. In Tools -> Folder options (from any folder), you can change whether it shows them or hides them.

Generally, the default it to make it visible. </font>

/)eathKiller 11-29-2002 10:53 PM

Let me explain to you everything that i'm about to do...

First im going to open this file you sent Lennon, which he sent me, after you sent it to him, on my G3 laptop because i can get it closer to a phonline, after it dials like a MILLION times because its PRIME TIME friday night, and finally gets on, im going to download this file and open it in Photoshop on my mac, then I'm gonna cOPY it, and PASTE it into Netscape navigator which is SUCH a daunting task for you, obviously, then im gonna HOOK IT UP via a 10 base T ranciever to my iMac which has a CD burner, send it BACK to my PC, convert it to a universal color pallet, Maybe animate it or somehting, LOAD IT back up and onto the internet via someones ranchoweb account, maybe my own, and THEN post it here, when you yourself could easily have just opened netscape to begin with O_o

BUT i'm a DOIN' it! Just you watch me! HAHAHAHA
...

...

...

...

OK my mac doesnt have Photoshop... So um...

... hmm...

well maybe it wil work...

please I've got college assignments to do don't push me!!! >_<

AAAH this is not my time of the night to be doing this!!! MIGRANES CRUSHING... BRAIN!!!!

True_Moose 11-29-2002 10:57 PM

thanks for the random windows related trivia, I, as a Mac user, have no learned something...

now let me tell you a litte more about Macs...

System OSX is the least compatiable mac ssytem since the IIGs went obsolete and MAc OS came out... i'll tlel ya, if you want any of your old stuff to run you have to run it through an OS9 converter which can take up to 15 minutes tos tart a SINGLE application and you have to either do this or buy ALL new software and most old software doesnt have updates really old software just wont work at all

HERES MY SUGGESTION to anyone who buys a mac:

DELETE your system software upon purchase THROW it all in the trash get a copy of OS 9 from somewhere ANYWHERE and install it! you'll be a mac GOD if you can find Res Edit on the net for it too, though recently the website that provided it has been hacked by some pro-linux people...

Res edit: Turns any file into any other kind of file and works on PCs and Macs easy as pie!

OH and also: Macs and PCs can transfer files amongst eachother wihout problems if you follow these precautions:

On a PC dont add a file type at the end, it's there if you have them disabled, on a Mac ALWAYS have the file type, also NEVER use any applications outside of the basics which can be used on the inernet such as IE and Netscape, an AOL 8.0 file on a Mac isnt going to run on a PC with AOL 8.0 unless sent through the net, Only if you use Res edit to change to a PC AoL format can you expect it to work, Photoshop is a NO NO!

NO NO NO NO NO!

Dont even use Photoshop to SAVE files on a PC!

with a PC copy and paste your image into MS paint and save it no quality degredation would be differint (JPG is best for internet files TIFF is highest quality) ANYTHING from adobe for that matter

now wait... this needs to be noticable

<font size="+1">ALL ADOBE FILES ARE INCOMPATABLE WITH EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE ORIGINAL COMPUTER WHICH THE ADOBE FILES CAME FROM OR AN IDENTICAL COMPTUER WITH THE SAME ADOBE SOFTWARE SO SAYS THE LORD ALMIGHTY!</font>

I hope you noticed that... Obey that rule! If you want to save something from Adobe Copy and paste it int something universal

like Quicktime... or Paint or Netscape Navigator

it's just EASIER that way... and Freindlier

if you can live a universal computer life you'll realize that you are no longer tied down to a software or a system! you'll be free as a bird!

So if you want to be a techromancer like me, follow the basic steps of:

1 : IGNORE ALL APPLICATIONS OUTSIDE OF THE ONES ON BOTH PLATFORMS
2 : FORGET ABOUT OPERATING SYSTEMS OUTSIDE OF WINDOWS 98-X AND MAC OS 9-9.2
3 : USE FILE EXTENSIONS ON MACS
4 : DONT ON PCS THEYRE ALREADY THERE USUALLY
5 : GET SOME 10 BASE T TRANSEIVER LINES SO YOUR COMPS CAN BE ON A LAN
6 : ONE PC CAN DO THE JOB OF 2 MACS
7 : KNOW THAT I AM A MAC USER AND YET I HATE ALL OTHER MAC USERS!
8 : FIREWALLS ARE FOR PANZIES

*edit * Two More!

9 : JAVASCRIP and HTML are the only two REAL programing languages in existance...

10: don't try to make a point typing in all caps...
