There have been LotR parodies around for ages. The French and Saunders one was dreadful.

PS: The Magister is SCARY!

Back in the 70's national Lampoon published a book called "bored of the Rings" It was hysterical, I especially loved the part about the dreaded "BallHog" "dribble dribble, fake, dribble fake, dribble, fake..Shoot!" Yeah yeah I know, no one knows what Im talkin about....whats new? hehehehe

Kaltia 11-08-2002 09:08 AM

I LOVED Bored of the rings! especially the bit with "Keen eared Stomper adjusted the battery on his hearing aid" :D

Umm, I understand you - but this is becoming a worrying trend

The only part of Bored of the Rings that I thought was funny was "Six foot's your height,/ One-eighty your weight/ You cash your chips/ On page sixty eight."

Kaltia 11-08-2002 09:21 AM

No? Maybe you have a weird sense of humour, Atty-boy...I know Colin and I have a sort of dark humour so that might be it...Dunno about Magik

Attalus 11-08-2002 09:29 AM

I am proud to say that I never bought the damned thing, only read a friend's copy at his insistence. It is really obvious, mostly, and the prologue is really dreadful. And, in thirty-five years, can't they get some new cover art? Sheesh.

Kaltia 11-08-2002 09:31 AM

We bought the new glossy shiny edition after the film came out...hardback+all...my dad is a real LOTR nut, y'know, the kind who's read all the books and committed details to his heart.
He's dyslexic and wouldn't be caught reading any form of non-fivtion otherwise ^ ^

You didn't laugh at "'twas worse than I feared, 'twas water on the brain, forced I was, to amputate!"? You may be a bigger crumudgeon than me ;)

I liked Bored of the Rings. Not loved, but liked. The names were a good piece of wit. Especially Bilbo's one :D :D

I liked Bored of the Rings. They also put out a decent parody of Dune called Doon. I'm sure LoA would like it. Instead of the spice, it has pools of beer. And instead of sand worms it had giant pretzels.
