ToB-flavored material

I was just wondering, since Time-stop basically makes one round last 4 rounds ( 4 rounds in the time of one ) ...
Would casting Improved Alacrity and THEN time-stop make your Improved Alactriy last the duration od the times-stop ?

is there a difference in .. Time-stop + IA .. and .. IA +time-stop ?

Thx for any replies :D

Time Stop lasts for 3 rounds.
Improved Alacrity lasts for 2 rounds.

Therefore, cast Time Stop first, then spent the first round casting Improved Alacrity, then spend 2 rounds casting as many spells as you can.

I've got a question about this combo, I don't know if this is a bug or what but whenever I try casting them both during timestop I can't can't cast anything for awhile because it keeps saying aura cleansing everytime I try. What is the deal with this I only have one mage in the party to try it with?

Xero279 06-23-2002 07:40 PM

what does Improved Alacrity exactly do?

Orion 06-23-2002 07:45 PM

It gets rid of the wait between casting spells for a period of time. so you can cast one as soon as you are through casting another.

It should say " aura cleansed" actually ... Every time a mage casts a spell, there's an aura of magic left behind around the caster.
This residue prevents the caster form immediatly casting another spell, and it must dissipate.

Improved Alacrity cleanses this aura after every spell ... so are you sure the spells arent casted ?
After every spell, it should say " aura cleansed "

Time Stop + Improved Alacrity + (while wearing the) Robe Of Vecna

That's the way to have it.

daan 06-24-2002 08:24 AM

+ Amulet of power = too much rounds, not enough spells

Dundee Slaytern 06-24-2002 08:34 AM

I prefer the PRATI tactic.

Project Image + Robe of Vecna + Amulet of Power + Time Stop + Improved Alacrity

It is very simple. Cast a Project Image, use the Project Image to cast Time Stop and Improved Alacrity, then rain Destruction, Devastation, Despair, Death and Doom on your enemies. ;)

The best way to go, but did you manage to do that with the Improved Abazigal ? I never got enough time to cast PI first .. had to hurry with TimeStop allready :(

Orion 06-24-2002 02:34 PM

yeah I'm pretted sure they didn't cast after that but I might have accidently cut the spell off thinking it was done I'll have to try it again. What is the amulet of power and where do you find it? I've never come across it.

daan 06-24-2002 03:24 PM

he Amulet of power is given to you by Aran Linvail ( choose the thieves-guild as your ally), the first time you meet and receive the quest to guard the docks.

Amulet of Power

Magic Resistance +5%
Vocalize
Decrease spell casting speed by 1 ( this is a good thing)
Immunity to lvl drain

Orion 06-24-2002 03:29 PM

Oh yeah...Forgot all about that amulet. I though that a decrease was a bad thing at the time.

How can this be a good thing?
Increasing makes things go faster, decreasing makes things go slower. ;) So when it decreases casting-time by 1, it makes casting go slower. And that's NOT a good thing. ;)

masteraleph 06-24-2002 10:50 PM

Nope!

Decreasing spell casting speed actually increases it. That's because spell casting is done kind of like weapons...it's measured in parts of a round. A spell that takes 1 to cast casts 1/10 of the way through the round, a spell that takes 10 to cast takes place at the end of the round. So the -1 on the Amulet of Power means that a spell that had a speed of 5 now has one of 4 (i.e. 1/10 of a round faster). When added to the RoV (which subtracts another 3), then you get a total of -4 (that is, a spell with a speed of 5- which normally took 3 seconds to cast- will now cast as fast a magic missile).

Dundee Slaytern 06-25-2002 12:41 AM

Robe of Vecna grants a -4 in casting time. With the Amulet of Power, that is a grand total of -5.
