Something strange is happening.

Over the past week or two the number of emails in my Hotmail Junk folder have been dropping.

Everyday I open the folder, scan addresses and hit 'Empty Folder'.
I was up to 100+ a day but it's in decline. The last few days have been 34, 22, 19 and today, just 11.

I'm wondering whether resolutely ignoring them (not ever opening them, ever) gets you dropped from the list eventually (because most of them increase their sending if you use their "unsubscribe" method - ie: Active Account! Let's mail them some more!), or if Hotmail's finally starting to block some of the larger known culprits, or (most unlikely) they've developed ethics simultaneously...???

Anyone else experiencing this?

I dont have a hotmail account but hope they are getting a clue! I tend to have good(no spam) and bad (lotsa span) e-mail days. I could filter them but its easier just to delete

From what I understand, Hotmail is attempting new filters. Sounds like they are working.

I deleted my Hotmail account a month or so ago, the spam mail got too insane. At LEAST 50 per day. And I reckon since my name didn't really make it obvious if I was male or female, I got double the "enhancement" mails for both ends of the board! I think I'm gonna try Yahoo Mail, see how that goes [img]smile.gif[/img]

I think they improved their spam filters. I get tons of spam mail on my hotmail account, though. And you can only block 250 addresses. I hit the max a while ago!

I wonder what would happen if the people who sent spam mail, received a punch in the nose from every person who they sent mail, one punch for every mail they sent. I wonder how many they'd send out?

Ive noticed that mine has dropped considerably as well in the past few days. I think I have only got 4 junk emails in the past 5 days which makes me very happy. I was averaging at least 4 a day.

Cloudy, open up a new account. There is a little button that says Allow us to advertise you email to companies somewhere in the registration. I believe that it is automatically checked. I unchecked it, and I hardly get any emails!!! [img]smile.gif[/img]

I can't access my account because the server that holds it is being repaired. [img]graemlins/1pissed.gif[/img] I prefer Yahoo! mail to hotmail though. 6 times the storage and hardly any junk mail.

There's some company out there that enjoys torturing me personally. I think it is THE telemarketer of spam. I've probably blocked 25+ different email accounts, all from the same company, all trying to sell me a college scholarship or something.. I don't know, I got so fed up with it a while back, I just block any new emails when I see its reference via subject. You ever see that commercial? Snickers Crunch bar I think, where the guy drives all the way to the telemarketers office just to smash him with the phone? I'd like to do that.

Actually my yahoo account gets more than my hotmail one. :(

I get tons of hotmail spam.
The other day I got one for half priced divorces and another asking if I wanted to buy 1000 pounds of beef burgers :D and breast implants too

I get at most, 4 spam-mails a day. I block regularly.

For some reason, despite the fact I have the highest filter possible on my Hotmail account, a lot still manage to get through to my Inbox.

My friend says that she doesn't get any at all in her inbox, that they are all sent to her junk mail and automatically deleted......

well I managed to not only filter the junk mail but I also filtered my mates,so now when I want to read my mates E-mails I have to read it in junk mail! the only reason I can think of why that happened is becouse I am dumb.

Maybe she has a 'safe list'or something. Every address not on the list is deleted to your junk mail folder.

I get loads of spam, I never open it and block everything but this week I get more than normal. About 4 each day :(

i find some spam kinda funny. most of my email are porn.with titles like "watch the seven dwarfs have their way with snow white!!". when i read this i almost bust a gut [img]smile.gif[/img] .

I get those very often as well or for certain 'surgery' offers. I just delete it. Some people are so stupid if they think I gonna open that kind of $^%^& Must be many people who open it, even after reading those titles, otherwise they wouldn't send it.

Lady Zekke, i get spam from both end of the board as well-is viagra even USEABLE for us girls? And can someone explain why on earth I would want to see "Wet lesbians living out their wildest fantasies"? (presumably from the title getting a swimming pool of their very own :D )

Lol it is posible not to get any spam, all i get is thoes newsletters from microsoft and the others you can get from hotmail. Just don't give out your e-mail except to friends and when you have no other choice but to and you shouldn't get that much spam if any.

I think hotmail´s junk mail filter works perfectly. If you set it the second highest, you surely get all the mail that´s been directed to you, and only a few spams get through per week.

My wife actually gets none and never has either. She is very gaurded about internet privacy and has never given her email out to anyone but a few friends.

The problem is, you join legitimate mailing lists or shop online and they sell your address to others who sell it to others etc...

I have an address that I only use when some site you're unsure of wants an email address. But it gets less junk than my hotmail!

I also have an ISP address that remains silent and spam free. [img]smile.gif[/img]
