Deathbringer 11-02-2002 02:17 PM

Michael Owen made it 11 goals in 11 starts for Liverpool as they extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to seven points with a 2-0 win against West Ham.

The England striker showed his range of skills when he made the breakthrough after 27 minutes.

But he rode his luck with his second as he mis-hit the ball and it drifted into the net in the 56th minute.

Liverpool remain unbeaten in the league this season. In fact they have only lost once in their last 29 Premiership matches.

That's championship form and the Hammers, despite a brief flurry in the second half, were never really in it.

Without the injured Paolo di Canio, they struggled to break down Liverpool on their own patch. :D

True_Moose 11-02-2002 02:19 PM

Yay, go Liverpool! Funny story:

We're in England, and I buy a Liverpool jersey (without my dad's knowledge.) I put it on, and he tells me a story of how, when he was like 7, he got his @$$ kicked by a Liverpool fan, cuz my dad supported Leeds.

Memnoch 11-02-2002 04:57 PM

This is FABULOUS news!! How did L'Arsenal go? Did they manage to battle their way out of their losing streak? *fingers crossed*

antryg 11-02-2002 05:02 PM

Are you ol' boys talking about that furrin' game with the funny looking black and white ball? Football indeed! Where is your sense of irony and the sublime?
The American game; now THAT'S football. :D

Kaltia 11-02-2002 05:05 PM

Are you talking about the silly game with the wusses in protective gear and the rugy ball?
You should be talking about OUR football, THAT's football :D

Steve Fox 11-02-2002 05:13 PM

I am a united Fan but I wish I was a Liverpool fan! I cannot believe that we lost to macibia Hypha(sorry i can't spell it)3-0 it is incredibly ambarising, all my friend are Chelsea supporters! so I get laughed at(sympathy vote)

johnny 11-02-2002 05:17 PM

I didn't hear any comments on the game Liverpool played a few days ago, did you guys miss that one ? I'll do it for ya then. To make a long story short: Valencia tought them a lesson in effective football. :D

antryg 11-02-2002 05:17 PM

Just trying to liven things up with some American bashing. I actually played and coached SOCCER for over 20 years. My younger sister was on an under 17 team that came in 4th in the World Games in Taiwan back in the 70's. I guess this is the wrong place to say I like Manchester United?

The Gooners play tonight Mr Flaming Geenie - take the opportunity to be smug while you can - it makes our eventual triumph all the sweeter in the end ;)

Zarr 11-02-2002 06:35 PM

Nice to see a few Man United supporters here! Arsenal are away to Fulham on sunday a quite diffucult game so as a Man U supporter I'm hoping they drop a few points. Man United won today 2-1 at home to Southhampton courtesy of an excellent winner by Diego Forlan so I'm pretty happy. Annoying Liverpool won though as they are still eight points clear of Utd.

I dnt think that was a mis-hit at all, he just screwed it a bit. It went where he aimed it, just not as quickly as he would have liked.

But as a Liverpool fan, although I think we are doing well, I am skeptical about winning the Premiership.

I know Utd ain't in that good a form, and neither are Arsenal, but I cant help thinking that Arsenal are gonna turn it on pretty soon. Hope not though, and Owen is playing awesome after his slump at the start of the season.

His first goal was sheer class!

I am aslo a litle worried, remember this time last season, Liverpool were 6 or 7 points clear up the top but had a bad spell over christmas, which cost them the premiership. Although, with this new Liverpool side, I believe they cartainly have what it takes ;)

I think our side has improved, but Arsenal's starting 11 is just amazing. I know LANESRA and certain people I wnt mention will get high over this, it just is. I wouldn't bet on them winning the league this year, where as I beleive the odds you would get on Arsenal are worth taking!

Anyway, DB, how have you been? Not spoke in a long time!
Well, Arsenal play today so I guess its going to be their main priority not to make it 5 losses in a row. Arsenal's starting 11 is pretty good, but it has proven to be hard for them without patrick Vierra.

Liverpool are going great, even without the likes of Gerrard in midfield and their strongest defence. Liverpool's defence is the best in the premiership and their midfield is ranked in the top 3, plus we have Owen up front (who is on fire) and the likes of Heskey, Baros, Doif and Cheyrou to line up beside him. :D

Hehe I am cool. I got my own forums now aswell :D Plus Liverpool's recent premier league form has made me one happy chappy. How 'bout you?

Lavindathar 11-03-2002 09:01 AM

Yes,the Arsenal result today is very important, and as you mentioned, they are on a losing streak. I hope they get beat, but one of the key factors, is Freddy and Pires are back. And they are awesome.

The Liverpool defence is awesome, best in league. The midfield, is not. It isn't creative enough, we lack a Giggs, a Pires or a Ljungberg. Our passing isn't the best, as Murphy can be sloppy, and only Dietmar and Gerrard can pass a ball well.

Our strike force is unpredictable, Owen is on fire atm, but earlier was not. Heskey, I do not rate. Diouf, I rate, but he needs his chance. Baros has taken his chance with full gusto, and bagged a few. He will be a star, givin more time. And Cheyrou, also looks good. I believe we need to drop Heskey and utilise either Baros or Diouf regularly.

And I'm not to bad mate, plodding along with college and what not. Last year now, so I'll be getting a job (and £££) when I leave! How's the family?

I would have to disagree, Murphy has been in top form and is one of Liverpool's more persistant good-formers recently. And we do have a creative midfielder, Diao! he has proven to be a valuable assett, he has already scored twice and has set up many good goals. Plus he has fitted right in and is already acting like a typical Liverpool player (running his legs off and creating chances).

Yeah, Marlet was unlucky. And the annoying thing is, Cambell conceded two penalties against Boa Morte that weren't given! Jeff Winter had an awful game, one of the worst refereeing games I can remember seeing!

I understand what you mean about Murphy, he is doing some good things. But i bet his average passing rating (completed passes) is quite low compared to other midfielders in the country. I beleive Diou is going to be a great asset to this club, as he has started very very well. He also though, can be sloppy.

For 11million, he was a waste. He has scored two/three this year, and we are 15 games into the season.

--Worthington Cup news--

Yeah! another Liverpool win! Liverpool managed to overcome Southampton 3-1 with Reserves and subs! That's right, only 1 first-choice player played in that Liverpool domination (Steven Gerrard). Berger, Douif and Baros were the scorers.
In other news, Arsenal lost their 5th game in 6 matches. They were 2 nill up at half time but lost 2-3 to Sunderland. Again Arsenal used Reserves, but still.

I don't think any of the Liverpool fans are gonna post the result of the Boro- Liverpool match, so i thought i'd be a good sport and do it for you guys.

Boro- Liverpool 1-0

It started, they selfdestruct like they always do. :D :D

Not a bad weekend at all - Arsenal with a win, Liverpool with the staggers, and United LOSE the Manchester derby - doesn't get much better than this ;)

Hello - Memnot. Are you there? (Knocks on woodwork). Can you hear us?

Completely off topic. Does anyone know the score in the Ireland - Australia rugby union match. Someone told me the world champions got beat by a bunch of paddy's but I can't believe that!

I do know that England beat the best team in the world - 31-28. Next week we play the easy aussies.

Liverpool - won sod all!

The Gunners will win in the end, the other teams can just as well give up now. Just you wait until Ljungberg starts scoring again.

Pah! Liverpool can now concetrate on the league! And Arsenal can't, so I reckon this is the deciding moment in the premiership if you ask me! If Liverpool can win all their games around now, and Arsenal dnt pick up all the points (Man Utd included), then maybe Liverpool can win! Who knows! But we always do self destruct, so who knows! Being honest, I said at the start of the year, we wouldn't win the league this year, and Arsenal would! But...grrr...I dunno!
