Ah, yes, the good old BG1 days when Jaheira was the most despised NPC of the game (though I have to admit that from time to time I wanted to reach in through my screen and choke the life out of Edwin). People hated her with a passion or at least they had a very, very strong dislike. When BG2 was announced I can still hear the waves of disbelief that Jaheira was coming back. Now we have the "beloved" Anomen, *cough* *cough*, who drives normal people into having obsessive-compulsive thoughts and actions of inflicting as much pain, humiliation and death upon this NPC.
So here is the situation. Both are in your party, the scripted BG1 Jaheira and the scripted BG2 Anomen. Now to make this fair don't rush your answer. Usually because BG2 is much fresher people will have the tendency to go with Anomen. So relax, think back and try to remember Jaheira's melodious voice and demeanor as she castegated almost every move you made, especially if your rep was high. Ponder, ponder, ponder. Weight out the facts. Now, who gets wasted first and why? |
Yes i remember now She was a bitch...nevertheless id still rather blast Anomen into space althoughthere is something really fun about havig him in you party then leaving him in the underdark to ROT!!!! HAHAHAHHAHHWHHEehehehheehhheehee erm yes
|
Jaheira...hands down, anyday. Anomen is a wuss that will shut up if you ignore him long enough, but Jaheira is, in her own words from BG1..."insufferable."

Saz i know thi is off topic but could you help me with altering my sig so's that only the lettering remains??? |
Jaheira WAS pretty annoying back in BG.
However neither BG Jaheira nor BG2 Anomen annoy me as that Gnome from BG2! I can't stand Jansen(BTW Quale-sp?- was even more annoying...What's with those gnomes anyway?) |

Oh yesssss... I remember Jaheira. 40 hit points...tsk, tsk. My favorite thing I would do to her was to blast her with a wand of frost. Those were SO powerful back then. She would freeze into a jaheira-shaped ice cube, and blast apart, and Khalid would say "Jah..Jaheira? No, NO!!!!". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! BAM! HAHA! Er, *ahem* sorry, got a little carried away there. Anyway, I hate jaheira more than anomen. A lot more. Still, I like to do the Flesh To Stone - Imprison- Freedom - Stone to Flesh- Disintigrate combo on Anomen, but I still hate Jaheira from BG1 more.
|
Well Saz this shows that two radically different oppinions can be both correct! :D
Jaheira is a little annoying(although I admit that in BG1 she was terrible)but I use her in all my games, save the evil one. She works fine for me as a tank and has all the healing spells I need. Jan however...I just can't stand him although he is a good NPC in general. |
BG1 JAHEIRA MUST DIE.
Hands down, BG1 Jaheira. At least Anomen has an excuse for his stupid attitudes (the paladins, snooty as they were, offered him something better than the back of Cor's hand.) But Jaheira... ugh. Nothin' doin'. |
Well, I personally believe that Jaheira was the reason Khalid stuttered so much...jumping down him every time he opened his mouth! I don't know why they (Bioware) didn't kill HER off and then have Khalid be another female romance option in BG2...could have done an interesting one where he eventually loses the stutter and gains a great deal of confidence and self-esteem. Could have still done the Harper's thing, too, since he was a Harper as well. Oh well...I don't makes 'em, I just plays 'em. ;)

BG1 Jahiera would definitely get the axe. As soon as I saw that Branwen, Yeslick, and even Faldorn were better than her, I dropped her like a rock and haven't been annoyed by her since, except her infernal "Our Rep is very high" in BG2.
Anomen is actually worth his place in the party. His arrogance is tolerable if you smack him down and have Jan tell his Ano the Dung Orc story. What I hate MOST about him, though, is HIS "Our Rep is very high" speech. I actually turned into the Slayer twice, just to get him to shut the hell up--something that not even Jaheira ever forced me to do. |

Anomen can be very annoying, but he is one of the best clerics in the game. I accidently let Vic the drow one get burned (hehe accident) so i kept him in my party. Althought, i would like to take him out

Well in all honesty I always enjoyed having Jaheira with the group in BGI and BGII as well. As for Anomen, heh, he's almost the comic relief in the group. In ToB Minsc asks him if he could join the Order of the Radiant Heart, along with Boo of course. In all respects I wouldn't drop, whack, hack, burn, incenerate, imprison, or melt Anomen and certainly not Jaheira. Both add a bit of character and life to the game.
On a side note, for people who dislike them so much...good lord, I hear them mentioned quite a lot. heh ;) |
*plays with speakers off in BG1*
Problem solved! |
However Jaheira's line "I've just about seen enough waking hours SLAVE DRIVER" was really good!

I have not yet experience the full extent of BG1 Jaheira, but in BG2, I despise Jaheira much more than Anomen. In fact... I kinda like Anomen. You just need to have Keldorn in your party and help Anomen get his knighthood. This will change Anomen's attitude by leaps and bounds, pity his default dialogues do not change. I can accept Anomen, because I know I can change him. Jaheira? Even in a romance, she does not trust you... Since that is the case, I slowly hurl Melf's Minute Meteors at her when she is still in her cage and shoot a few Melf's Acid Arrows... ... |
Sorry, Minsc is still my most hated NPC. He was damned annoying in BG1 as soon as I did the Dynaheir quest, I dropped his sorry but.
Imagine my disgust at actually having to save his arse!!! Wonder what Minscina is doing....(mmm girlde of Gender.....) |
"I am pleased at how far this ill-concieved group as come. I would not have thought it possible." -the Lawful Good Anomen, believing that our 20 Rep was entirely due to him
"I hope this is not a sign of things to come. We must strive to maintain balance." -Jaheira, getting irritated that we've had so much success in fighting the very things she encouraged us to fight Which is worse? Aaaaargh, I wish the Silence 15' Radius spell worked to silence their *.WAV files as well...... |
Oh, I can feel everyone's pain! And to think it really is psychological. There is no way the human race is ready for Star Trek's holodeck.
|
Hmmm, well Jaheira was very indendant, headstrong, opinionated, said exactly what she felt and meant, had an ego the size of Russia and sure, Khalid was a rather weak willed man so she ran roughshod over him. My brief definition above is an overly simplified but fairly accurate representation of what successful, powerful men are often like throughout history. Today, Jaheira would probably be what would be described as a strong woman who has broken the shackles of a so called superior male mentality. I personally like a strong woman and it seems I am one of the few who always like having Jaheira around. Even with the romances in BG2 we had 3 classes of women. Aerie, the young, whining, almost child. Vic, the haughty, naughty, wicked city woman that can be soooo attractive and alluring. And Jaheira who is a better representation of what a more mature relationship would be like.

I don't want a character that's so loveable that I could never get a little annoyed by them. |
Hmmm... which is worse. Well I hate Jaheira: balance, we must have balance... shut the **** up!!! And here we have dear Anomen. Can you say stuck up the @$$!? At least he's funny! What is it now!?
|
None..!!!!!!!
|
hmm.... as a NG elven ranger... in all honesty, I could never blast Jaheria, even the one in BG1, after all, she IS supposed to be 'my' guardian after all.... Anomen can go strait to hell, wiht pleasure... or maybe not... leave him in the pocket plane... when you leave it for the last time would be unishment enough... oh yes, I *HATE* Anomen...
|
I dunno man...
I LoVeD jaheiras voice in BG. 'Yes oh omnipotent leader type person' or whatever it was she said gave me the shivers and made me want to... never mind. I love those knda accents. Down with Anomen! |
Anomen. Definitely Anomen.
Jaheira was annoying in BG I, but she can't come close to Anomen. At least she has a decent voice. But Anomen? AHHHH!!! That "What is it NOW?" especially grates on my nerves. |
I just got BG1 and have been playing it for a week.
I don't see what the ruckus is about, Jaheira hasn't done anything remotely annoying to me. As for her line: "What do you command oh omnipotent authority figure?" It's just her in-joke towards you in the game, and I find it funny each time I hear it. I like in-jokes. |
oh oh, Just remembered something, in BG1 if u clicked J enough times she would say "If a tree falls in the forest........ Ill kill the bastard what done it!" that was hilarous, and other... "Hum, what is it now, need your pantaloons pressed." lol; sooo funny.

Heh, nice to know there are some others who like to have Jaheira around.
|
lol; yeah it is. everyone *seems* to have forgotten that arcording to 'garion', your 'foster father', Jaheria AND Khalid, ARE you 'legal' guardians, for all those LGs out there, and anyone else for that matter. the least you could do to 'honour' garions memory would be to follow his wishes... lol. I sound like im taking it to seriously. ah well, at least 1 game you *should* try it. its funny.
|
I really don't see what is so bad about Jaheira, in fact she's in every party i've played since BG1.
|
mine too! lol; shes a great fighter/druid person. espically with drizzits simitars.. lol; NO dont be so gullable OF COURSE I didnt kill drizzit...
