- - - - - - -- - -- In the Bridge District right next to the door where you found the body part for Kongaxx's body, there is another (trapped) door You need a rouge stone to go through it Inside you'll find the Twisted Rune (group of 'baddies') and the Staff of Magi |
One of the games toughest fights awaits you in there, a big party of different powerful creatures, led by Shangalar the Lich. ;)
You'll get lots of XP there, plus Staff of the Magi. |
It is the lady mage that has the staff of the magi...
she is difficult to beat as she has very powerful spells. she (i think) uses the GATE spell to call in a demon. so have protection from evil ready... |

At sufficient lvl its actually pretty easy ... It was over before i knew it .. heheh, i summoned a Planetar ... and literally had to run to even get ONE blow off, this creature kills fast ! The sword a planetar has is a vorpal sword, meaning that all creatures must save vs. death ( IIRC) or otherwise be instantly killed. He killed the main and most powerfull mage in 2 blows .. he was misled, fireshielded, invisible and every other thinkable way of being protected. The planetar however, sees invisible creatures, struck him twice .. no damage, but the second time the mage failed his save, and his spirit flew away, through his stoneskinned body HE then proceeded on killing all other enemies, leaving the female mage, who had the SotM to me .. after allready having killed the Pit Fiend offcourse ... she was trying to kill the planetar with all she had .. but a planetar is highly magic resistant, and immuned to most elemental attacks, plus he has good saves. Heh, my only job as an immensly powerfull kensai/mage lvl 13/21 , was to cast breach once and strike her 3 times with Celestial Fury :D I love those planetars, i usually gate on in, turn invisible ... and watch him toy with the cowles ... with both druid and Mage spells, he's incredible ( pwerfull mage with Insect plague, huge MR, great saves and lots of resistances [ 06-13-2002, 11:20 AM: Message edited by: daan ] |
well thanks for the information, but what it a Planetar? I assume it is a mage summoning spell but have never seen it, used it, or heard about it until just now.

"Summon Planetar" is only available if you have Throne of Bhaal.

Tuff fight for me, only Mazzy, Paly, and Viconia stayed alive. But other than the xp, I was dissapointed. I kept the Staff of Magi, gave it to Imoen once I got her back..it's pretty much just another staff..what's so special about it??

well lets see protect from evil, immunity to charm, the combine fireball lighting damge trap spell oh and that little thing called dispell magic with each hit

I think that the entire Twisted Rune fight is bugged. I was in chapter 2 doing it, and party-wise, I couldnt cut it. Then when I restarted, I had my party backtrack to the leftmost room to fight shangalar, except for my paladin. He was wielding carsomyr and all the protected spells I had (and thats alot!). I send him in to kill the beholder and the rune assassin. Didn't think he would make it but his job was to pre-occupy the rest until shangalar was dead. I killed shangalar eventually and when I went in for the kill, I found my paladin standing there with his pet pitfiend (he was protected from evil offcourse) and all the runes were dead.
I scrolled back in the messagebox to find that the horrid-wilting in combination with the pitfiend did all the work for me. How lame!!! |
There is a really easy way to kill all of the people in the twisted rune, all you have to do is set 6-8 traps where shangler appears. Then talk to him and he will teleport to where you set the traps and instantly die, quite funny. Then provoke the rune assasain or the beholder to come and kill them both. Charge the vampire with the daystar and make sure the lady mage cant see you. Use its sunray ability and it will do about 1000 damage in most cases to vampires. Then I just charged that girl mage and killed her before she could summon her pit fiend

Zuvio- the Protection from evil that the female mage has on doesn't always seem to work (or maybe she damages the pit fiend, or something)...regardless, it seems to attack her a lot of the time. Which would've brought your fight down to being a whole lot easier, since it'll beat her any day

*snif* Hmm, seems you just didnt look closely enough Xero279 |
And if you can't figure out where to get a rogue stone, go to the Umar hills and complete the quests there.
|
Heheh, i guess that female mage neglected to download the Baldurdash-fixpack, which fixes the Protection-from-evil bug ....
Guess that's what you get, if you go into a room, with the key out of there being the eye of your boss ... hard to keep up with the news that way :D |
The Lich is the boss, not the Beholder...
You need the eye of the Beholder, not the Lich... |
