What do you think is the scariest movie of all time? Vote and see what others think in this poll.

Nanobyte 09-17-2002 12:49 AM

If I'm right, the first EVER horror movie I saw was Steven King's IT. Jeepers. That movie makes me shudder.

Neb 09-17-2002 01:04 AM

The Thing.

F***ing scary movie. Watch it, it rules, it really, really, really does.

Night Stalker 09-17-2002 01:10 AM

Not all that scary NOW, but Poltergeist really tripped me out. Then again I was what 7 ... 8? As for fav that I thought was scary - A Nightmare on Elmstreet (the origional).

Neb 09-17-2002 01:13 AM

Poltergeist 1 is still scary. As is Poltergeist 3. #2 blew, but 1 and especially 3 were scary as godawful hell.

pcgiant 09-17-2002 01:18 AM

Scary Movie was scary.

Sio 09-17-2002 02:00 AM

Poltergeist here was scariest for me, first watched it when I was about 5 or so, I was scared of that religious guy for years after, the travelling preacher. He just looked creeeeepy

Sorcerer Alex 09-17-2002 02:14 AM

Charley and the Chocolate Factory is the scariest horror movie of all time. The Oompa Loompas frightened the living shite out of me when I watched that film as a kid.

Night Stalker 09-17-2002 02:15 AM

We had Co at the time I saw Poltergeist and had to stay in my brother's room. I did NOT like his closet door. I was much comforteder when they left and I got my own bed back. (yes that was intentionaleder)

Kormar the Wanderer 09-17-2002 04:14 AM

Think Friday the 13th was among them, as well as Evil Dead, but Jaws takes the cake in my opinion...

johnny 09-17-2002 04:52 AM

Casper the friendly ghost. :D

Lharae 09-17-2002 09:25 AM

Ghoulies had a profound effect on me as a child. I was afraid to sit on the toilet without looking for years after seeing that.

Deathbringer 09-17-2002 09:31 AM

<font color="00cc99">Hmph.. I would have thought that 'Willy Wonker and the Chocolate Factory' was the scariest movie of all time ;) </font>

Ronn_Bman 09-17-2002 09:34 AM

"When A Stranger Calls"

creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppyy.

Kaltia 09-17-2002 09:44 AM

WELCOME TO IW SIO!
I usually avoid watching horror films 'cause I gte freaked and I don't know why people like to do that. i recently saw The Others which was quite good but I also liked What Lies Beneath.

MagiK 09-17-2002 10:20 AM

<font color="#cc3399">Well being the old fart that I am. The scariest movie of all time up till it's time was easily the <font color=blue>Exorcist</font>. This movie had people terrified, the church tried to have it banned and some towns had it rated X. It had a MAJOR impact on the horror film genre. No movie before or since, that I can recall has had headlines and the impact that this one movie had.

There was also a movie in the 80's called <font color=blue>"Prince of Darkness"</font> which at the time had me having some pretty scary nightmares. Lucid dreaming helps with those if you don't like the outcome of one nightmare redo it and change the ending

As for books. I think the original <font color=blue>"Omen"</font> was one of the scariest books I have read.

Nachtrafe 09-17-2002 10:25 AM

Arachna-freakin-phobia!!!

That movie scared the bejeezus out of me!! Of course, since I *am* arachnaphobic...guess I shouldn't have watched it alone at 3 in the morning.

Neb is right about The Thing too. Great movie!!

Magik...YES. Prince of Darkness was truly creepy. A bit heavy on the goo/gore, but still, a good movie.

Wolfy...ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!

Welcome Sio.

Thanks for the welcome, gonan be posting here frequently I hope, just came across these forums today when I checked otu the site for equipment help on Baldurs Gate.
Oh yeah and Childs Play was also a very scary film for me when I was a kid. Just the notion of a killer doll (who at the start looks cute and harmless) is horrifying.

Yes I also avoid watching horror movies I don't really enjoy being scared. I liked What lies Beneath though it was good not often you see Harison Ford play a villain. I'm suprised nobody has mentioned the Exorsist that was pretty scary that bit were the head spins gets me every time *shudder*. Oh BTW nice idea for a thread Willard

Kaltia 09-17-2002 10:38 AM

Err...Zarr...Magik said the exorcist..
Westlife: see: crappy irish boyband who scare the bejesus out of every fan of unmanufactored music.

Whoops didn't notice that silly me.

Timber Loftis 09-17-2002 10:48 AM

The Others was very scary recently. As was Willa Wonka, I admit - though I think it scares me more now than it did then. But, I must say. . .

MOMMY DEAREST

WillowIX 09-17-2002 11:04 AM

Voted for The Shining. It´s not that scary but it´s good! My fav wasn´t in the choices otherwies I´d said It Came From the Desert :D :D

Sio 09-17-2002 11:24 AM

The Shining is my faviourite film of all time, Jack Nicholson in his best role ever

Horatio 09-17-2002 11:47 AM

Yeah, The Thing and The Shining were excellemnt, but neither really scared me that much.
Rugrats In Paris...brr, you could sense the evil.

Kaltia 09-17-2002 12:21 PM

Really? I was scared s***less by pokemon, the first movie. Terrifying!

Horatio 09-17-2002 12:35 PM

Really, Kaltia? We should start a club! :D

Kaltia 09-17-2002 12:39 PM

I know, but have YOU been terrified by other films? I see it now...Kaltia and Horatio's club for people scared of scary films!

Yeah.. that one scores pretty high on my list (we are floating down here!)
Neb:'The Thing' was good, but not that scary..

Hexa 09-17-2002 05:09 PM

The Thing !@
It was disgusting ( I watched it when I was like 10 or so).

And it just came out on DVD as a director's cut...

MagiK 09-18-2002 10:26 AM

<font color="#cc3399">
Was thinking about this over night. My list is as follows.
1. Exorcist
2. Amittyville Horror
3. The Shining
4. Prince of Darkness
5. The Omen

These 5 are tops and were really very scary when each was released in the theatres. All the later movies (even Stephen Kings who is one of my fave authors) are kind of...lesser creations in my opinions. These were scarey on a primal level rather than in a shock value sort of way.

I must say reading any of these in book form, in the dark on a stormy night is a guarenteed nightmare waiting to happen.</font>

The scariest thing is that you ever watched it!

Seriously, I'd go for The Shining.
Jack Nicholson's face is simply breathtaking, and not in the positive sense...

Sio 09-18-2002 11:39 AM

I know what you mean B_part, when he's talkign to the ex-caretaker/waiter in the toilets when he'd had drink spilt on him, the face he pulls when talkign to Mister Grady and telling him how, "you chopped your wife and kids into little pieces, then blew yer brains out" is amazingly funny and just goes to show what a great actor Jack Nicholson is.
