I posted a message about this author and his books in the book forum and nobody responded. I hope that was because of low traffic. If anyone has read his work I would love to talk about it over in "Books, Movies and TV"

I posted in there about a book I was wondering if anyone read and could recommend. I also thought that low traffic was the reason no one answered. So I posted the thread in GD and no one answered here either.

Sometimes that's the way it is.

I'm going to buy the book anyway, after all, it did win a Pulitzer Prize for fiction. It can't be too bad, can it?

Some days it is actually busy but I guess it is all topic-related.

Moni, You won't regret reading Ishmael. It is short and a quick read, so you may be able to fit it in a weekend. I can understand being committed through December though. There is a bookstore here that buys surplus books from libraries and twice a year they have a "Buck-A-Book" Sale (hardcovers!). The last one was in June, and I still have 6 or 8 books that I picked up then that I haven't gotten to yet.

I was also looking to read "A Conversation With The Man" by John Ridley, which deals with a black stand-up comic trying to get respect in Las Vegas in the 1960s. Interview here:

I really think you would both benefit by reading some of Tom Clancy's novels. Not that you would agree with some of the political slants, but his works really really give you a look into things that most people in our country never think about, hear about or know about. He is very accurate in his portrayals of how certain organizations work. Especially good are "Rainbow 6", "The Bear and the Dragon" and His newest one "Red Rabbit".... I also really liked "Executive Orders"

I used to be a Tom Clancy fan, but after a while I got tired of the black and white -ness of his stories. Jack Ryan was too much of a boy scout for me. I prefer my heros to have a bit of a dark side, like Rorshach in Watchmen. I did like Red Storm Rising though. If you like good spy books, try John Le Carre. I'm reading his "Our Game" right now.

That would be nice but from the looks of it, my face is going to remain in text books even over the weekends LOL. I signed up for 19 college credit hours and although the classes seem to go by fast and the days seem shorter than they did last semester, there are a lot more books involved. ugh lol.

I love old hardbacks :D My fav store in Tucson was a humungous used bookstore with big comfy leather couches and cushy chairs set around the different sections that were usually full of fellow book-lovers. I found many collectibles among its shelves for a buck fifty or more (never over 5 dollars though heh heh heh). [img]smile.gif[/img]
I've been introduced to a couple of used bookstores here in TX but haven't really taken a day to peruse them and see what they have to offer. What I really enjoyed though was he (Clancy) was often writing about things I had been involved with or been around (the technology and programs not the actual operations) Its kinda cool at seeing stuff you were never allowed to talk about being put into print [img]smile.gif[/img] So I guess it isn't the Spy genre I like so much as the ...realness of the operations and methods and sources. With James Bond and other writers you know its all just made up, Clancy was the first writer I ever found who actually KNEW what was going on behind the scenes.</font>

I have to go full time in order to fulfill my end of the bargain to obtain them.
My major is education. I'm working for a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies which will enable me to teach or eventually become a principle. I am choosing to teach; grades K-4.
