Well after reading this article I had to check my calender to see if it was April1 or something. Unfortuntaley, it wasn´t.. Check this link..
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t26...zdnetukhompage Hmm.. Don´t we have alot of new lawbreakers on this forum now?? :D Please tell me this is a joke.. This is even worse then the Swedish Personal Information Law LOL!... Man.. Politicians.. (Just waiting for someone to tell me I´m stupid to fell for this old one.. ;) ) |
I'm not sure if it's true but it's kick ass! The Greek government is once again turning into the raving mad-men they always were! A few more months and I'll be able to go home!!! hehe
|
That is the dumbest law I have ever seen! what a load of crap! I'm SURE it will stop illegal gambling *cough*
|
Holy crap! Jeez, they just up and banned all electronic and computer gaming.... I for one am really really glad I do not live there :(
Though after watching "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" I was already pretty sure I didn't want to live in Greece :D |

However I would like to point out that Greece is one of my favourite countries in the whole world - you may not want to live there, but please, please, if you're ever in Europe go see it. Wonderful country |
It's true alright, ask Sir Bryonas who told us a while back. Something about violence I believe, the government wasn't happy with the messages being sent across by games like GTA3.
|
Maybe they wanna go back to the days of the dark ages ? :D

There is much that I would love to see in Greece...actually the birthplace of the western world I love so much (in my opinion any way) I was just being silly and trying to make a joke about some of the Greek women they put in that movie |

:D yeah they were a blast, no toilet paper, no deoderant, no hot showers no feminine hygene products loads and loads of fun to live in the middle ages ;) |
Thats definitely in the top ten of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. I'm completely dumbfounded by the ignorance of greek lawmakers. Do they really think that illegal gambling needs to be prohibited badly enough to completely outlaw video games? There isn;t any sort of rational logic behind it. I really hope they repeal this ridiculous law.

why don't they just ban technology.

Don't know the details of how Greek government work, but I give this legislature at most 1 year, at best.
|
Hhaha.. silly rule. Now all the Greeks are just gonna migrate here to Melbourne :D :D we're like a second Athens..
What kinda government is so self-proclaimed stupid that they dont understand the difference between gambling and gaming? (Greeks, yes I know) I remember when they tried banning Half Life in Singapore. Pretty much showed them where THAT went. |
I quote from friend in paraphrase,

I have a feeling they've banned Grand Theft Auto 3 over here as well. Because I haven't seen it on the shelves yet. Anyway, in my opinion I doubt any member of the Board of Censors plays computer games on a regular basis, besides Solitaire and Minesweeper. Same goes for the Greek parliament.

I still shudder in abject horror over the abysmal title, "Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shioked Me". Way to go on putting us on the international scene of embarassment... ...
What were the censors thinking? Were they even thinking?!?! [ 09-04-2002, 03:31 AM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ] |
IU have no idea which Public servant was on an acid trip when he came up with that idea. If the authorities had a problem with the word 'shagged' then they could always change the title to simply "Austin Powers 2". Thank God they left Goldmember alone.
|
Surely at least the Greek government shouldn't ban the game Zeus: Master of Olympus.
|
For all the intelligence of the Singapore government, we still lack the virtue of common sense. And it doesnt look like the next generation will be any better. Bunch of mindless zombies cranked out of the Singaporean Lobotomy..uh.. Educational.. system..

Have to agree to some extent, actually -- Singapore's education system really is what one would call a 'pressure cooker' system. I know -- I currently have a couple tuition students and their lamentations regarding school are all too familiar to me. And in fact I once tried teaching as well -- after one year, I quit. (Oh, and it's actually also occured to me that Lifetime might be a (former?) Singaporean, too.)
But yes, we're getting off topic. So, I'll stop here. ;) [ 09-05-2002, 03:07 AM: Message edited by: K T Ong ] |
So they banned ALL electronic games!? Isn't that a weird thing to do if you want to stop illegal gambling?
|
As somebody else on another board pointed out: The "problem" with internet gambling is that most companies are based in offshore tax heaven, law heaven small countries. Therefore governments cannot get their greedy hands on a cut of the profits pie from online gambling. As the saying goes - "Dont steal. Government hates competition."

But what about say single player PC games? Why should those be banned too?
