hp■pavilion 751n desktop PC
Heres the info stuff: Intel Pentium 4 Processor 1.8GHz with Intel NetBurst mincro-architecture 256MB(expandable to 1GB) DDR SDRAM with up to 32MB allocated to video memory 80GB Ultra DMA Integrated SiS650 graphics technology with up to 32MB of shared video memory Windows XP Home Edition ...And it can burn CD's and play DVDS and all that other stuff So, is it a half decent computor? Its about $1 299 US. |

then you sholdn't have any problems

Nope it is not a good computer i think because of this:
"Integrated SiS650 graphics technology with up to 32MB of shared video memory" You must buy a pc that you can change the graphic card later if you want so for all things dont buy a pc with built in video are sound. |
your right, i missed that part
|
The sound onboard is not as big a deal as video. With current cards at 128MB of ram, 32MB is pretty anorexic.

Does it have an AGP slot, too? If so, you could upgrade later and turn off the onboard video with jumpers or through the BIOS.

Other than that the system looks fine, and even if those graphics are not upgradeable (on which I woudnt take bets either way, HP have better things to do than check minor (from their perspective) details like that). |
Um....It has an AGP card....heres every last single thing they wrote down for this comp

No i cant see that it have a AGP slot available only two pci slots!
Btw you can buy a good pc with no built in video or sound but the pc can have a good grapich card and sound card for that Sir Goulum only ask in the computer shop and say that you want a pc to the same price without this built in thingies no problem at all i think! Then you have a computer that you can "upgrade" later if you want! |
Ok, as long as I can play NWN , and it won't be terrible, I'm fine

Goulum, I woudnt try NWN with less than 64Mb. Ask at the shop if theres a machine for a similar price with better graphics (or a free slot and you can get graphics later). |
Ok..I've got about 2 months to find a good computor, so theres no rush. Could you suggest a computor that has an AGP slot and is under $2000 canadian? I don't seem to have much luck finding one :(

IMNSHO avoid anything with intergrated anything like the plague!! As soon as you start getting involved with intergrated things you run into propietary software, which doesnt play well with anything made by anyone else. If I were you I would go with something made by Gateway. I have gotten their stuff before and it is TOTALY upgradeable. Also if it comes with an OS they send you the OS install disk as well. Some companys just ship a backup disk so if you ever get a new HD or have to format your old one you are up a creek.

I could build the exact same pc for around $600.00. I think it's a horrible deal. Integrated graphics are worthless. If you do go with a Pentium pc, make sure that the chip they give you is the Northwood core. Usually the processor has an A or a B designation after it meaning that it is. The Northwood P4's have twice the L2 cache as the Wilamette's did before them.
