He can only be hit by +4 weapons or better.

Hi and Welcome to IW Nima!
Go to Waukeens Promenade and then to Adventurers Mart. buy protection from undead scrolls. Use as many npc's as you have scrolls and have them, indeed with +4 weapons, attack the demi-lich. Make sure you have a VERY low THAC0 for the wielders of the +4 weapons and at least 3 attacks per round. This because the demi-lich regenerates at supernatural rates which makes him hard to beat. Good Luck! |
with a sword! listen to the talking sword; "find a rich man and kill him, then find a richer man and kill him too! hack and slash your way to fortune, woohoo!"#
sorry im not being much help,. ah well. |
Killing Kangaxx is a complicated task. First a lich and then, as it weren't enough, a demilich casting Imprisonment with high frequency, highly resistant to any magic and weapon, and regenerating at a remarkable rate. What to do?
1. You will need a +4 weapon as it was said above. 2. You will need somebody with a good THAC0 for the weapon as it was said above as well. 3. You will have to do something with the Imprisonment. Spell Immunity - Abjuration is one possibility but the spell is "caster only" so that only a mage can be protected by it. The green scroll Immunity to Magic is another possibility but only two such scrolls exist in the game. 4. You will have to do something with the "Demilich Howl". It is a killer spell used by Kangaxx after gaining the demilich form. Kangaxx seems to cast it only once. The Death Ward spell protects from the Demilich Howl. Summary: If you have a kensai/mage trained in staves and owning Staff of Rynn or if you have a paladin trained in 2H swords and owning Carsomyr then you can deal with Kangaxx in Chapter 3. Otherwise, you will have to wait until Chapter 6 when you will be able to gain some powerful special weapons. Because your protection from the Imprisonment will be always unsufficient, you must improve your position. Kangaxx is positioned wery well on the top of the sarcophagus - you must do something with it. I recommend wasting Kangaxx' spells one by one by peeking your nose downstairs, letting Kangaxx cast a spell and running back upstairs. You can heal upstairs. You can go to the inn and rest - Kangaxx' spells will not regenerate. At one moment, Kangaxx decides to follow you to the exit from the downstairs area. That's we wanted to achieve. Kangaxx is no longer strategically positioned on the top of the sarcophagus. Let him approach the exit from the area and run upstairs. Prepare for the fight against a demilich. Return downstairs and beat Kangaxx. When it starts changing form, let the unprotected people run at the opposite side of the sarcophagus out of Kangaxx' sight. Only the protected people will remain. Beat Kangaxx the demilich. At one moment, Kangaxx becomes "yellow" and starts to run away. It's time to use Ring of Ram on it (if you have the ring). Otherwise, follow him immediately, continue beating (don't forget that Kangaxx is regenerating!), and move the unprotected people so thet they remain out of Kangaxx' sight. Hard work? Yes. But doable. |

Now, this aint really a big tactic for killing him, but get the Daystar. First, kill the regular Kangaxx-Lich. I assume you dont have much troubles with him as you only asked for help with the Demi-Lich. When he turns into a Demi-Lich, move back. When he starts casting his first deadly spell, Imprisonment or Finger of Death, I believe, cast Sunray with the Daystar. This should interupt his spellcasting, plus bring him to Badly Injured or Near Death. Then, bash at him with all you got, and he should be down with little trouble. ;) |
when i fought him, i lured him down to the bottom left corner and beat him, then he regenerated into that real tough demi-leach. i ran out of the room, gave my 2 +4 weps to my best brawlers, went back in and cast protection from magic on the both of them, and just went up to him and bashed his skull in. it took a while to kill him but he was helpless, he kept trying to imprisson them but it wouldnt work. and my other crew were out of his sight by the doorway.

Sunray should work but it does not, Exxon! False Dawn does not work as well. Kangaxx the demilich is not undead! Mace of Disruption cannot dispel the demilich form. Protection from Undeads does not help. Using the scroll of Protection from Magic on Kangaxx does not work, too - if you use the scroll on the lich then the protection does not survive the change form, if you use the scroll on the demilich then you do not prevent it from casting Imprisonment.
Big tactics against Kangaxx are really rare. I was unable to find out something better, something that would really work and that would not rely on pure luck. |
i cast protection from magic on my people, and they never got imprissoned even though he was tryin

radek, why did you say the scrolls didnt work, they do! He even stopped casting anything when my 3 protected from undead characters cornered him. False dawn doesnt work because he'll probably have a too high magic resistance (which is bogus offcourse, I agree).

Its easy to kill kangaxx. FIrst up whack kangaxx the lich and try and lead him over to the door. Then leg it. Save.
Use a Protection from magic scroll on you best fighter and give him your best +4 weapon. Give him an oil of speed. Go back down there. You want your protected char to be positioned so kangaxx beats up on him, so if he chooses someone else, reload and swap characters around till you get it right. From now on you have ten minutes to whack kangaxx before the protection wears off. @Radek - why were you using a prot from magic scroll on the enemy? You want to make him *harder* to kill? You use it on your own tank. |
Ring of the Ram (from Togerias)can damage Kangaxx. He's not immune to it and it does full damage to him (about thirty). So its a good way to start the fight. Oh, and welcome to the board, sorry I forgot to wish you in my previous psot. :D

Hmm, weird. I'm pretty sure Sunray worked on the Demi-Lich in WK...

But remember kangaax is a particularly deadly demi-lich, and the demi-lich by its very nature is prone to varying between examples. Its not a natural creature but a result of its own actions - and 1000-year old mages can get very inventive. |
First: Sunray DOES work...maybe not as well as on some other undead, but it does work.
Second: If you have a berserker fighter, the Berserk state automatically guards against Imprisonment, Maze, Confusion, Charm, etc. Either your main character if he's a beserker, or Minsc, or Korgan, can do this. Have them go into berserker mode when attacking. Third: You do need +4 weapons or better to hit. HOWEVER: there's a spell called "Phantom Blade" (Mage spell level 5 or so) that will strike him. Also, if you wait until Chapter 6, you should be able to forge the Wave halberd which does mondo damage on him. Crom Faeyr does as well (+5), or you can have a Paladin (yourself if your main character is one, or otherwise Keldorn) whack on him with Carsomyr (+5) Have all your characters hasted and protected to the nines before you start the battle (the first one with Kangaxx, since you have absolutely no time in between to prepare for the demi-lich). If your mages can cast Spell Sequencer, have them sequence some deadly spells against him that will go off at the same time. Good luck! -Sazerac |

Prepare for the Super-Munchkin, Completely Cheesy, Almost-to-Embarrased-to-Mention - method of Killing Kangaxx.
I used this when I was soloing an assassin. First I pickpocketed the ring of Ram from Tolgarias. Then, after collecting the bones, I set about 6 traps at the top of the room, then about 6 more where he first appears. When he appeared and turned red he was instantly killed by the traps I set by the sarcaphagus. Then, when his Demi-lich form popped up, (but before he could cast Imprisonment) I used the Ring of Ram to push him up into the top corner where the other six traps were waiting. Killing him, of course. All I had to do was clean all of the cheese off of the ring, and it was all mine! |
Cheese? I don't think so...unless using the natural abilities of an assassin is "cheesy." At least you didn't stand out of his LoS and fire cloudkills at him (wouldn't have worked anyway!)
-Sazerac Oh, and one other thing...Protection from Magic DOES work...about the only thing that is resistant to the Death Keen. "S" |

Do the methods of killing a demilich from D&D work in this game?
It been forever since dying in Tomb of Horrors so at a guess... spells: Dispel Evil Halt Undead Holy Word Shatter Then Again, I don't think these spells are even in the game... Pretty sure the Mace of Disruption should work too. Then again, this game was written by computer gamers not paper and pencil RPGrs |
shadowpup-
the Improved Mace of Disruption will work, but the normal one won't. The programmers made it so only +4s and +5s would work (on the demilich in WK, of course, +6s will too), and the Improved MoD counts as +5 against undead. |
This might help.

thank you all for your help. since i just started the game days ago, I have no +4 wops. so I think I better wait until i reach chapter 6, as many of you have suggested.
again i like to thank you all for your help. |

In fact there was a thread a couple months back with a guy asking why MoD diddnt work against kangaax. In fact there are several such threads thoughout history. |
by clicking on him with your mouse DUH!!
Only joking, well not really, but anyway, Use the Carsomyr or mace of disruption thats what i used and i soloed it, both times i killed him. No probs. |

first off, Kangaxx (even tho I never fought him) IS undead, since hes a demi-lich after all. second, WHY would a mace of disruption dispel his demi-lich form  Third, You are NOT supposted to use the protection from Magic scrolls on Kangaxx, you are supposted to cast it on yourself. |
Ok ...
There are 2 ways of using a protection from Magic scroll ... one of them is casting it on your enemy, since Magic is resisted inside the sphere as well. All spells will fail, when you're surrounded by a Protection from Magic globe. The reason that the globe's gone, once you kill his Lich-form, is probably because he becomes something else, so the game doenst carry the PfM-globe over to the demi-lich form. The Lich form can be hurt by sunray . .the Demi-lich form cannot .. I tried Fals Dawn, i tried Sunray . .both were ineffective. Which in a way makes sense, because IIRC demi-liches are immuned to all but lvl 10 spells ( Melph's Minute M's excluded, since these are meteors, not spells) The MoD CAN indeed hit kangaxx ... im not sure if its just the upgraded version, but the upgraded version usually kills him in one to two blows . .there are numerous posts describing that too ... Its enchantment lvl ( NOT the THAC0-bonus) is +5 after the upgrade ) You can kill kangaxx both forms quite easily low-lvl using this method ... you only need a decent fighter OR a decent mage .... Fighter: Do the trademeet quest and receive the Flame's tongue (longsword) ... it's enchanted +4 against undead and WILL hit kangaxx in demi-lich form. Now but both a PfM-scroll and a PfU-scroll. Cast the PfM-scroll on yourself and fight kangaxx in his original form , he'll be easy, as he cat hurt you with magic. Once he transforms .. and only AFTER he transforms into a demi-lich, cast PfU-scroll on yourself and whack him .. hell fall easy and fast. Mage: Same tactic for the PfM and PfU -scrolls .. but now memorize a lot of MMM's ( lvl 3 ) ... He'll fall quite easily that way. As a mage its very possible to solo him without the help of scrolls .. by casting -Spell immunity: Abjuration-, this will negate the imprisonment spell the Demi-lich casts .. ( actually its a spell called "trap the soul" , but it works the same as imprisonment) Now casting MMM's and Improved Haste will finish him off .. improved haste is very important, since the Demi-lich regenerates and flees sometimes. For all other Liches, Daystar works great for a fighter |
