Sir ReGiN 07-30-2002 12:23 PM

I've heard alot of stupid things like eating raw fish, drinking lots of egg-white e.t.c., e.t.c.
So I'm just wondering what your favorite cure is since, well, I could really need some advice right now since I feel like my head is filled with thousands of angry dwarves hammering at my brain. :D

Epona 07-30-2002 12:24 PM

Big greasy fry up and a lot of ice cold coke.

Madman-Rogovich 07-30-2002 12:27 PM

well preventions always better than cure so chug a pint of cold water before bed and you wont get hungover but if you are and you want a cure then the best one is keep drinkin!!!

Jorath Calar 07-30-2002 12:29 PM

I didn't like friends either until one night I had nothing to watch and my girfriend had left one of her Friends tape at my house... I started to watch... and was slowly sucked into that horrible abyss...

Don't sleep after you drunk too much. I did it on a party and the next morning nearly everyone had hangover except for the ones who stayed up all night.

Well, to each his own i guess, but when i wake up with a sore head after a night of heavy drinking, i take one or two bottles of beer and i'm fine again. :D Food is one thing i stay away as far as possible from, just one or two beers.

one or two beers works magic for me too!!

MILAMBER 07-30-2002 02:29 PM

Before you go to bed drink a glass of water, pop a couple of asprin, and eat a piece of bread. When you wake up drink a beer. You'll be fine.

Sir Kenyth 07-30-2002 04:40 PM

Drink a fair amount of water before going to bed. When you wake, drink gatorade or mild(non-acidic)fruit juice and have some easily digestable food like oatmeal. Take a dose of ibuprofin and a dose of tylenol. You can take those two together. Add a multivitamin and a dose of either no-doz or ephedrine. Unless you REALLY tied one on, you should be right as rain within the hour. If your stomach gets bad, you may need some immodium and/or zantac. Of course, the best prevention is pacing yourself and not getting sloshed to begin with.

Disclaimer: Take no drugs if you are alchoholic and/or have liver problems! Tylenol, in particular, can push a stressed liver to the limit and make you quite ill! Do not take no-doz or ephedrine if you have high blood pressure or heart problems!

John D Harris 07-30-2002 06:15 PM

Massive amounts of water before going to sleep provents me from getting Hangovers, but snice you seem to be past that point :D
A Plain cheeseburger (Meat,Cheese, & bun only), side order of hasbrowns, with pork gravy (perferably with lumps& chunks of pork in it)poured allover the cheeseburger and hashbrowns. If you don't puke from the sight of it, you'll be ok to eat it. I Gar-ron-tee it'll take care of your hangover one way or the other :D

Sorcerer Alex 07-30-2002 06:19 PM

A big greasy fry-up, lots of water and an ice-cold bath. That last one really does shock the hangover right out of you.

Ladyzekke 07-30-2002 06:26 PM

I have to agree with everyone re the water. The more water you drink before you go to sleep after drinking the better, as the headache you get is from dehydration. Plus of course never drink alcohol on an empty stomach, eating something before bed helps a LOT. In the hangover morning, again, eating is good, especially something with bread, and drink more fluids (preferably with caffeine). Also hard as it is to do, moving around and not sitting around like a zombie helps get the alcohol moving out of your system faster (hey, hangovers is a waiting game). I wouldn't suggest aspirin before bed because it slows the digestive system and the alcohol sticks around longer. If you can't do any of the above LOL, just sleep it off!

Moni 07-30-2002 07:01 PM

There really is no biological cure for a hangover.
Its best to avoid water after waking up with one as it only alleviates the problem even if you have food with it.

Best thing to do is take some of the advice given here about how you treat yourself before falling asleep and if you wake up hungover anyway, in all biological truth, the hair of the dog that bit ya is the best route to take if you are unable to just sleep it off.

Ladyzekke 07-30-2002 07:13 PM

Moni - Yeah but doesn't that just prolong the inevitable, hair of the dog I mean?

Moni 07-30-2002 07:24 PM

In all honesty Ladyzekke, coming from my biology professor and based on my experience through years of drinking, it is the best thing to keep from being the sickest you could be after waking up hungover.

I got a 98 in that class and was exempt from taking the final for my overall high scores throughout the semester...the lectures on alcohol were given by the both of us lol since I was the only student in the room that knew all the answers prior to reading the material. I wasn't the only student over 30 either lol. She was impressed but at the same time stated it was obvious that I had been a heavy drinker in my earlier days. She was right.

The best thing you can do for a hangover is to avoid getting one altogether by drinking in moderation and making sure that you've eaten before you even start.

Ah I think I see. You mean, by drinking one or two drinks when you wake up hungover in the morning, you can stop yourself from being immensely sick, and then come down slowly from there throughout the rest of the day? Did that make sense LOL?

Also, I figure that wouldn't work if you were chucking it up in the morning would it? LOL, Ralph! Hurry up and bring me that martini!

Thoran 07-30-2002 09:30 PM

Hair of the dog has never worked for me... drinking LOTS of water before bed has worked if I hadn't already gotten a headache.

The absolute best thing I've ever experience for hang over destruction is Tylenol with Codine... it's very strange to go from a wicked hangover to NOTHING in the space of 20 minutes. That codine is some awesome stuff! Sadly it's also not available over the counter here in the US, after taking it (after surgery) I can see how people can get addicted to morphine, there's no pain medication I've ever taken that worked half as well as this stuff.

One thing I'd warn people, there's some pain medications that can have very bad interactions with alcohol, and basically trash your liver. Be very careful about taking stuff while you're still "UI" and don't take more than the recommended dosage! Not sure if it's Tylenol or ibuprofen... but one of them can be bad.

Leonis 07-30-2002 09:54 PM

Gotta agree with Sir Kenyth about the drugs. Ibuprofen, Psudoephedrine, Sports/Electrolyte drink all taken together...Hangover gone. Best followed with cold 1-2 day old pizza, & coca cola.

Moni 07-30-2002 10:03 PM

Just keep in mind that with prolonged use of Ibuprofen and Acetominiphine (sp?) (Tylenol/Advil) that you are also risking severe kidney damage.
Nothing is better for aspirin purposes than aspirin...taken with plenty of water and it poses absolutely no risk to your stomach as is so popularly rumored by the pharaceudical pushers.

Ladyzekke,
Yeah LOL...I guess if you woke up barfing though that it might not seem like too appealing an idea. ;)

Leonis the cold 1-2 day old pizza, works best when you also have many open nearly empty warm beer cans laying around with the high probibilty of cigarette butts in them :D

drink one glass of water for every two drinks. this eliminates the chances of dehydration, which leads to hang over. or, you could always just drink a beer or two, or a couple shots of scotch (my favorite) and you are good to hook.

If you were still awake then you obviously didn't have too much to drink.

QED!

Donut 07-31-2002 05:33 AM

Of course the best way to avoid hangovers is to stay drunk.

Sir ReGiN 07-31-2002 07:01 AM

Well I went out and bought an extra greasy hamburger with extra greasy french fries with a big coke, and it worked quite well.
And I'll have to remember the water thing next time ;)
'Course the cure I've always used is drink some more, but I've never managed to get it right so I always end up with another hangover after awhile
