I've got a real problem with my copy of Baldur's Gate. Everytime I start it up, and the main menu appears the only options available are "install" "view readme" "watch demos" and something else that I cannot remember. After installing the game, it all runs terrificly (a bit slow, but otherwise good) until the next time I wish to play it, when the options available are the same as before, and I have to install it again! Must I install it everytime I wish to play???? This is the second time I play BG after a long time, and I've never had this problem before...

PLEASE HELP!

Try asking a the BG1-forum. It's listed under the 'Ironworks Classics'. ;)

Yeah, I know... but there's almost always empty in there, so I takes ages before somebody answeres. But you're right, I will. ;)

I take it your talking about the auto run. Find the folder where you installed BG too and double click baldur.exe, see if that works.

Clicking Baldur.exe in the folder where I installed the game doesn't work either... :-( But thanks for the tip, though! :)

Ok then I'm not sure. Did you install the game to a folder, then move that folder by any cahnce?

Kiyatha 07-21-2002 12:58 PM

Nope... nothing like that.

Deathbringer 07-21-2002 01:06 PM

okay this is a long shot, but maybe it is your registry, do you have windows 98?

Deathbringer 07-21-2002 01:07 PM

hang on, what actually happens when you click baldur.exe

Kiyatha 07-21-2002 01:13 PM

Well, the main menu pops up, with the picture of Sarevok and the music and all that. The problem is, that the only options available are "install" "view readme", "view demos" and "exit". This is after I've installed it!

Where did you install it? If you typed in a different directory, try the default one. Otherise I'm not sure I can help :(

Kiyatha 07-21-2002 01:24 PM

The weird thing is that I used the default one... It's a real tricky problem. The funny this is that when I'm to open the game, the option "uninstall" is available in the windows start poll. That way it must be installed! I don't understand a thing, but I'll uninstall it and reinstall it, maybe then it'll work... who knows?

By the way, thanks! :)

I just wish I could get the damn game to install again. it always shuts down at about 70% and this is after it tells me I dont have enough hd space to do a full install when i have about 15 gigs available.... go figure. I wonder if its a compatibility issue with newer computers and stuff cause it works ok on my old piece of junk pc.

I have a simelar(S?) problem with Heroes of Might and Magic 4 the thing i do is to take out the cd then put it in again then the autorun come up and the game work because then all options are available. Have you try that?

And when you have installed the game try to get the lates patch for it and patch it BEFORE you try to play it!! And also try to install the game where it will be installed usaly in c:\programfiles\baldursgate or some thing like that.

Theres a bug in the windows API (Actualy there are hundreds, but who counting?) where at certain values it reports the HDD size incorrectly. Sometimes if you *lower* the free size the bug goes away . Make a duplicate of c:/program files to eat up some space and see if that helps.

Kiyatha 07-22-2002 12:14 PM

I reinstalled the game, and I obviously must have done something different from the first time because now it's working like a charm! Thanks all of you who helped out! :)
