This is where you can tell everyone your most memorable Multiplayer moments!

I'll kick start it...

My mate and I played Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries year’s back, and he said he could take me out using the weakest mech! I naturally laughed in his face and used one of the best mechs. when we started, I immediately when on a hunt, but I couldn't find him. I looked everywhere... Eventually I accidentally bumped my mouse and my mech leaned over to see my mates mech down at my feet. It was no bigger than MY Mech's foot! I laughed at him as I stepped on him blowing him up hehe :D .
He then vowed to destroy me. I laughed again, knowing full well that his pathetic lasers wouldn’t harm me. I once again went on the hunt... looking for his respawn. Once again I couldn't find him. Then from nowhere a tiny mech fell from the sky and landed on my face, blowing up my cockpit and making me explode! It was his turn to laugh...
By the end of that game, we had both fallen off our charis with laughter!

I have another...

I remember when a few mates and I played doom1 cos we were bored, and the frags went over 250 each! I remember I was exhausted, physically and mentally, for a solid 3 hours, BFG blasts had turned my momentarily respawned Doom-guy to toast. Other respawns popped in, only to be instantly slammed in the face by a rocket. Die, respawn, die re-respawn! haha In that game you could respawn five times and fail to move an inch before being blasted to oblivion. Ahh... a multiplayer moment never to be matched.

So what are yours?

Forcing an opponent to use his own Probes to destroy his Nexus in a game of Starcraft if he wanted me to ally victory with him. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/devil/sagrin.gif

Defeating a combined fleet of 36 Carriers from 3 players with my 12 Carriers and 2 Arbiters in another Starcraft game. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/evillaugh2.gif
--------
There was this one game where it was 3 people versus 5 computers. We were hanging on an edge, but the computer was exhuasted as well. We were all out of resources, then I suddenly had an idea... I told my friend to use his Shuttle to ferry his Probes across a nearby river to harvest minerals from the last mineral patch on the map. We could not walk there because the path was blocked by the computer's static defences( Bunker, Sunken Colony and a Spore Colony).

It was agonising, but he finally harvested enough to research Mind Control and merged his last two remaining Dark Templars. We knew there was a Battlecruiser around and I comsatted to search for it. Battlecruiser found, his Dark Archon entered his Shuttle and flew on a safe spot near the Battlecruiser's location.

The next few seconds were terrifying. The Battlecruiser was above a Bunker and there was a Science Vessel next to it. As his Dark Archon approached the Battlecruiser, the Science Vessel started flying towards the Dark Archon. We all held our breath as he Mind Controlled the Battlecruiser just before the Dark Archon got EMPed. Then the bunker started firing on the Battlecruiser and he just managed to fly the ship out of danger.

This was the turning point. We were now in possession of a Battlecruiser. It had 9 Hp left and was blind( I had optical flared in an earlier confrontation), but it had Yamato Cannon.

Using the Battlecruiser, we destroyed the static defences blocking the path along with the aid of an Archon( he continued harvesting using the Shuttle method). The path free, my last SCV and our ally's last SCV scampered to the mineral patch as our Command Centers flew over.

The next scare came in the form of the computer's last Queen. No longer protected by Missile Turrets, our SCVs were sitting ducks for the Queen. As I was the nearest, I was screaming inside my body but mortification turned to relief when the Queen for reasons unknown to me, decided to parasite my SCV and brooded our ally's SCV instead! Celebration was short though, as my SCV was now under attack from two broodlings. Luckily, my friend's Archon saved my SCV's butt, and from that one SCV, and his probes, we built one last army and defeated the computers( never have I built so many Ghosts...). Our ally could only observe though, but he chose not to quit which was fortunate because we WON!

The entire game took four and a half hours.

ah starcraft, Dundee. What a good multiplayer game. One question though, why didn't the player who was protoss research mind control above all other things. Once you have that, protoss are hard to kill as you can take over enemy workers and biuld their biuldings. You probably knew this allready but owell. Sounded like a great game!

Has anyone played Unreal Tournament??
I remember a friend of mine was being a jack@ss so I shot a BFG at him, but for some very strange reason, the missile didn't blow up when it hit him. Instead it stuck to him and carried him through the sky and into oblivion hehe :D . I can remember the look on his face and his screams of "nnnoooo noooooooo! I cant move!" as this rocket with a man stuck to it flew through the air. It was Hilarious!

It is forever enshrined in our memories as that game. ;) As to why, that will be because my friend is a Zerg player. He was only trying out Protoss that day, and I was a bit upset when he could not get the concept that his Reavers and my Bunkers do not mix well... ...

I was playing MP Icewind Dale with Galadria, Micah Foehammer, and Azred. We got to the back of the cave of the burial Isle, but we had to run the gauntlet of Wights, Drowned Dead, and Wailing Virgins. We were out of spells, potions, and all wounded. We couldn't rest. So, we decided to just run out of there. I put on my Boots of Speed, Galadria's dwarf took a potion of speed, andoff we ran, past all those monsters. It took us three tries, but we finally made it out, intact. Gal's dwarf was the fastest. She always got to the exit first. Somebody said, "I've never seen a dwarf go like that," LOL.

What a good thread topic!

My most memorable moment would have to be when i was okaing Diablo 2(Lord of Destruction)with my best friend on closed battle.net. We were in the first area of act 5 with a full game(meaning there were 8 people), and out of the blue i asked him to go to Homecoming(homecoming is a big formal dance if you didn't know) with me :D . Everybody just got quiet and Mikey said"sure, that'd be cool"
That is definatley my most memorable moment

The lich in the Gate District (Baldurs Gate II) suddenly changing into Biff the Understudy on one of my friends' computer while the lich was still around on the other players' computer comes to mind...

I've got a good one:

Playing Halo with 8 freinds... and all vehicles on...

I decided that it was fair to have a 7 against 1 match...

me being the 1...

I started by getting in a tank and driving it into a cave, i jammed it sideways between two rocks and it was impossibe to squeeze back out without turning it upside down and then rotating it through the cave clockwise through the jagged rocks... moving such a heavy thing would take alot of firepower, but i wasn't satisfied with just ONE tank stuck in the cave, so i did so again with a second tank, running over anyone in my path... then my freinds started hopping into warthogs, and they started attempting to drive by while shooting me with the chain gun. Their fast movement however was quickly put to pasture when i rammed them into the same cave bumper-car style and they quickly took controll of the tanks. THey then spent most of the game time trying to corkscrew at least ONE tank out, using the other tank and vehicles to push it out, it took the efforts, combined, of all 7 of them to corkscrew it just half way, i stepped in with a few grenades to assist, and with a huge ammount of sacrifices (leading to a score on their side of -43) they finally mannaged to pry the single vehicle free of it's tomb. Everyone was cheering and patting eachother on the back and then (while they were all celebrating) i flew a tiny hovercraft into the cave and ran over any of those who hadn't hopped in the tank, all the while i had been picking them off but there were so many none of them truley held a grudge, and because they were so centered on the simple act of FREEING a tank, they forgot to check the scoreboard. The game ended with a score of 50 to -50 With only one person against 7...

:D

Hmmm.....
Phantasy Star Online for the Dremcast. I remember, being with 4 other people, 2 with sabres and me and some other guy with mechguns. The sabre guys would go in, hack, slash, then we'd go and clean it up. Anyway, we came up against a horde of monsters. Around twelve of them. Well, we fell back, firing and slashing. It looked SO COOL! One of the sabre guys got knocked over, and just as the monster was about to bury him with a claw, I blew him back 4 feet!!!

Aliens VS Predator for the PC. I was an alien, up against a group of marines. I was with some friends, and we crawled around this huge arena. Suddenly, we spotted them. They were all huddled together in a tight group of 6, trying to get their left and right flanks, as well as forwards and back. They hadn't counted on an assualt from the skies. WE crawled up the walls, then lept at them from 60 foot. Aliens take no height damage, so when we fell on them, we were healthy. WE raked at them, killing 3. Then we lept up again, crawling the walls around them with lightning speed. One tried to lock onto me with a smartgun, and held down the trigger. I dashed behind another marione, and he killed his own man! It was a massacre!

I agree totally, Deathbringer. Some people say that it's scarier with no sound, but I think differently.
An alien environment. You are a marine, with only your pulse rifle and 20 rounds. The smartgun lies forgotten, ammo depleted. Your health is megre, the surroundings dark. *ping* the motion tracker! 10 metres! you see nothing! There's nothing there! *ping* nothing! *ping* five metres! *ping* OH MY GOD!!!!!! PREDATOR!!!!!!
You kill it, and it drops to the floor. You sigh with relief. What? It twitches! What the hell is it doing? Then it sets off its self destruct. :D
Very cool.

The First (and incidentaly last) Annual Peterhead Academy DooM II Tournament.

Id done well, got myself a seed place which meant id be gauranteed not to go up against serious opposition until the quarters at least. Breezed through the opening rounds - most of the players could hardly play and still though hiding was a valid tactic. Time spent hunting down newbied didnt do my Frag Difference any good, but im still scoring 50-60 per game.

The middle stages were harder - most of the level chaff were gone and the opposition is starting to become a threat. Im still winnig comfortable and my Frag Difference is catching up with the leaders.

The quarters - tough fight and im lucky to win it. Actualy i come second, but im through to the Semis. A field of over a hundred and its down to 8. Two games, four player each, for one hour. For the firest time in the tournament nobody is late. The 8 best players in the school. In 2 areans of death. We draw for the level - and we get the abyss. Nightmare. Its a *huge* open level with tones of *narrow* walkways and very little cover. The exact opposite of my favored terrain.

30 seconds remaining. Reaperman is waaay out in front, im joint second. Before me, reaperman falls to the player in fourth in an intense duel, leaving the survivor wounded and down to Pistol ammo. An easy kill, clinching me second place and a chance at the finals.

Except, at that moment, as I grab my chance at the finals, a stray rocket from the CAMPING B*****D at the far end hits me in the face, totaly by accident, wiping out my final chance.

Even the guy that fired it acknowledged that it was pure luck that he got me, but life is life, death is death and frags are frags. I was out. 7th place out of a field of more than a hundred. Not bad. But, if it wasnt for that shot-in-a-million, I would have been in the final. The final was on my favorite map. I could have won.

EDIT - wierdest thing, my monitor quits with a puff of smoke and a smell of ozone, but it came back five minutes later.

One time a long time ago i was playing a BG2 multi with cloudy, Sazarac, and somebody else. I was sitting in for another player that couldnt be there that time and i was playing Jan if i recall correctly. we were involved in a particularly nasty little battle in that other plane, you know, the one you get stuck in when you do the quests for that in the theater. sorry its been awhile :D .
anyways, we are fighting a whole bunch of folks, and we seem to be having a rough time of it. Since i was playing Jan i was standing back and using a cross bow and starting to run short on ammo. i looked through my inventory and found my wand of summoning.
I then proceded to cast it over and over to try to give the tanks some backup in the melee. now the whole melee team, and the enemy are getting bombarded by fireballs. Everybody is trying to take potions and cast spells, and party members start to die.
It is not going well. Pretty quickly its must me and one other party member left, and its about that time that i realize that i had grabbed the wrong wand. Instead of the wand of summoning, i had picked up the wand of fireball and I had been bombarding the party with a constant stream of fireballs. So then i tell everybody that i had grabbed the wrong one and i had just killed the party, everybody had a good laugh. Then we reloaded.

My most memorable multiplayer moment was at a Fragstock a few years ago. There was a Half-Life Deathmatch contest going on with 32 people on datacore. I was a killing machine that game! After the fifteen minutes were up, my score was 53/4! I didn't realize what my score was until it was over, it was incredible. I won a Voodoo card.

I was on a power trip for a while after that because I had a crowd of people watching me play all day.

My most memorable multiplayer exp was back when Kingpin came out. This was a fps where you played a thug working your way up..It was pretty cheesy but the graphics were great and the multi was good.

Anyway, I was playing with two guys who were friends, but I didn't know them. I had them completly turned around and confused and scared. On one level there is a ledge where you can see down three halls. So I sneak up behind them all the while watching them chat back and forth: Where is she? I hear footsteps see her?? So I get to the right corner which I know they are around and send off a grenade rhicocheting off the wall and at their feet. I see one type "You Hear that???" right before they go splat!

One good/bad thing about that game was the grenade launcher, you could run and coming up to a corner fire at the wall in front of you then turn right or left depending and the grenade would bounce at the opponents feet and blamo.

That was fun

Hmmm.. so many.. living in a boarding house means 24/7 LAN and opponents to play with

Beating someone 50-2 at Jedi Knight 2 comes to mind. As does our multiplayer AVP2 games, which tend to get funny as hell because my roommate and I betray each other whenever we ally up to kill aliens (we're both marine players). I've never laughed as much as when my roommate went in with a flamethrower and toasted me while yelling "I'LL GET THE DAMN FACEHUGGER! I'LL GET IT! DON'T WORRY I'LL GET IT!"
And maybe our Empire Earth games as well, because I'm always the one that gets rushed first and my roommate once again my ally decided to nuke the invading army within my base. He did more harm than good, needless to say. My roommate is the ultimate stupid turtle player. He just surrounds himself with walls and defensive structures, and then he sends his horde of nuclear bombers to "assist" my defence.
Basically I got rushed by a combined force of both our opponents, and my entire base got destroyed by an army of nuclear bombers. Rushing my precious civilians to my ally's base to preserve my civilisation while attempting to fend off the invaders, my roommate sends his nuclear bombers, nukes the invaders fighting amongst my buildings, and takes out my buildings while laughing maniacally. Then he backstabs me by turning hostile and slaughtering my civilians while they walk through his gates of death.

And our starcraft games.. when everyone gangs up on the computer, then on each other when the computer finally falls. Its ridiculous really. Everyone just sets themselves up for a big attack on each other while pretending to fight off the computers at the same time ("Whats that? You're mind controlling my carriers? To defend your base you say?")

Ah, I got one, but it's not as long as yours, I don't think, mostly cause it's cold in here.

Anyways, this is another Brood War game from about a year ago, and it stuck out in my head for some reason. Enjoy the narration!

It had so far been a pretty typical multiplayer game for me. I had nuked the other guy's workers a lot, taken out his infrastructure a few times, but since it was a money map (which I don't play anymore) he rebuilt each and every time. I decided to give him a short reprieve before nuking him again and following up with my small fleet of battlecruisers, and for some reason hadn't expanded yet. Money maps tend to stifle skills... anyways, I decided to go over and nuke him again, but much to my horror my dropship was intercepted by at least 17 Carriers, throwing me into a panic. Well, not really, I still knew what to do...

To respond to this I quickly researched Lockdown and built some Ghosts and Valkyries. I already had about 6 Battlecruisers, but didn't think they'd be doing much. My total forces were about this: 12 Ghosts, 8 Valkyries, 6 Battlecruisers, and 2 Science Vessels versus 17 Carriers, 4 Arbiters, and an unknown number of Observers. Obviously, attacking me on the side facing him would be the obvious way to go, and I knew this, so I built some turrets on either side and put my forces in the middle since I didn't want to commit to either side yet. But as expected he came from the left side, the one he wasn't on, and I let him make some headway. The big blurs and interceptors obviously came from carriers, and some scans just a bit behind them showed Arbiters. So, in order to relieve that thread I cloaked a ghost and locked down two with one, and did the same with another. Then I moved my Valkyries in to engage with my Battlecruisers using the Yamato Cannon on a carrier each after my EMP shockwaves hit. The remaining Carriers were hit with a Lockdown from my ghosts while my Valkyries and Battlecruisers mopped up.

Now, I had never done anything like this. I didn't think that I could have done an Alamo defense like this, but apparantly my opponent was quite disheartened by his loss. He quit the game after telling me how good I was, even though at that time I was sure it was a fluke (I could do it again now). Little did he know that if he had come back in just a few minutes he probably could have got me.

He didn't play Starcraft again. :D Well that wasn't nearly as short as I thought, and much longer than I had intended! Oh well...
