As some of you might have heard, some time ago a politician was murdered.
He was buried near Rotterdam (Netherlands), but his wish was to be buried in Italy somewhere.
I understand his wishes and because the tomb wasnt finished in Italy has was "temporarily" buried near Rotterdam (Netherlands).
Now the time has come that he's to be "transfered" to Italy.
This means he has to be dug back up. His brothers agreed with ONE tv-station that they may record this event. I think its just sick, making tv about other people's loss and I dont know what is going on in those heads of the victim's brothers. I wouldn't like to dug up again in the first place, let alone to have it recorded for the publics entertainment. Those tv companies are just out for money, noting else. Just as recently a home with 6 children burned down (the 6 children died), 1 child and the mother survived (child was on vacation in another place) and now again, tv. stations are on it like vultures to tape it again.
It just disgusts me.

Any thoughts are most welcome

Well, think of it like this: Knowing Pim he would have loved the attention. And it is his last wish, so what more can you do than respect it ?

The Collective 07-18-2002 02:12 PM

Davros Collective here - my views are simple - if he wanted to be buried in Italy his family should make it happen. If a TV station is stupid enough to think there is commercial advantage to be gained then they are screwballs but that is their problem (it is also their sentence). If his family are content to take the money from the screwballs abd accept that this means a public display then that again is their concern. If I was the dead guy however, I would not be so appy.

I hear ya friend. It is a very sad thing the media has turned into the leeches they are today. It's really terrible, I thought there would be a change with the Lady Diana incident, which was caused by paparazzis (which should all be shot in the kneecaps and dropped in the middle of the tundra, if I got to make the call).
And I mean just the fact that they send people in the middle of wars to get the best shots and the best interviews with the risk of getting their reporters and cameramen shot and killed, without even blinking, is terrible!
But the worst part is that most people want this. They buy the magazines, they pay to get the channels that air the most exposuring news.
It makes me sick

EDIT: Oh and as for the burial, I think you should let the guy be moved to Italy, if that's what he wanted.

That's where you're wrong, oh noble member of the collective. If you were the dead guy, than your name was fortuyn when you were alive, and you'd be very happy to know that even in death you're capable of causing a storm in a glass of water.

Mirac Honorguard 07-18-2002 02:42 PM

Yeah, like I said, if the dude wanted to be removed, then its his choice.

But theres more sick people in the media then just this.

I once saw something on tv, 2 person sitting next to a big brown bear.

What happens --> Bear goes berserk and attacks one of those persons, 2 guys drop on the bear to make the beast stop while the <censored> cameraman continues FILMING!!!!!

Maybe its just me, but this is getting one sick world, if thats gonna be the 21th century entertainment.

Lord Shield 07-18-2002 02:48 PM

well we don't forget the paprazzi that went up to the dying Princess Diana and instead of calling for help just took pics

Davros Collective again - your question was posed as a hypothetical with no names - your next post adds information that is not something you can expect everybody (who ain't up with events in your part of the world) to know. Are you still telling me my answer was wrong, or are you asking me another question now?

On the premise that you are, then I would prefer that that person did not receive any unnecessary publicity. Please provide all the information next time.

Rofl You see ? I couldn't even make a normal quote :D I'm doomed

Grojlach 07-18-2002 03:41 PM

I think the people who actually watch that nonsense are more disturbing than the tv channels who broadcast it...

Is that so ? Then how do you feel about those tens of thousands of people who were lining up at his house, hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever it was they were hoping to see ? I an imagine lots of people want to see this, though i'm not one of them, but when famous people go out like this, it's often a big show. Fortuyn himself would have enjoyed this very much, i'm sure of that.

And yes, Fortuyn was a vain (ijdel) man, he certainly would have loved it. Though I still think Fortuyn was overrated. He didn't have the grandeur of a world-changing person, he didn't have the plans and ideologies of someone like Ghandi, all he had were (empty?) promises that were controversial and impossible to implement at best. His fame was created by the media, and if we have to believe the ridiculous nonsense many LPF-members were spouting he was indirectly also killed by the media. That the media also directs his funeral, is the painful irony of his character...

That's very true, if people didn't want to see it then the press wouldn't bother printing it.
I think that the man in questions wishes should have been respected in the first place. After that they should have just let the dead lie in rest.
